I’m a female INTJ and I definitely strategically use emojis and exclamation points in emails to project warmth and perform friendliness/small talk at work. I’ve learned that it’s an expected part of work and results in better evaluation by others and better perceived proficiency in my job , and therefore furthers my interests.

I agree with lots of what was said: First of all, the standards thing was so accurate. I set way higher standards for myself than for others. Also, I'm in highschool and I don't care about the unwritten social hierarchy and the trends. I only talk to one person in my class and I like solitude. -Female INTJ

I am one of the INTJ who had the result of INFJ first. I was okay with this until engaging often with other INFJ and noting the differences in motivations, the 'Why' behind doing things that may seem Fe people/feeling oriented. Studying functions in relation to eachother is very helpful to discern such differences. Te motivated by Fi can very much appear to be Fe from the outside, if one or more of our core Fi values are related to human rights.
@wokefromhome7389
@wokefromhome7389 3 года назад
This is true if you are an intj with a very well developed fi you will come off as infj to most. If you have an underdeveloped fi you can look like an unhealthy feeling type as well

After talking with an INFJ friend, I realized I was much too selfish in the conversation to be an INFJ, lol. She let me talk about me as much as I needed to.
@dialiann
@dialiann 3 года назад
I had to learn the hard way that some ppl just want to vent instead of fix the problem. I used to unintentionally give unsolicited advice. I say unintentionally, since I assumed some people were looking for ways to better the situation instead of complain and continue those patterns. My sister is an INFJ so when I thought I was an INFJ for one moment, I realized I was nothing like my sister and shook it off lol She helps me see the world differently but we don't process thoughts the same. Yes, definitely building off of knowledge and growing together instead of "debating." I definitely need to try journaling🤔 I do have drive chats sometimes lol Great discussion ladies! I relate to you all, it's so refreshing to see. I've never met a fellow female INTJ irl yet so this is awesome for me.
@michaelapatrick
@michaelapatrick 2 года назад
Same thing with me. People are always coming to me to vent. I can't seem to stop giving them the solution. I know I should let them vent but it's not really an efficient use of time. Why bother telling people your problems if you just want to wallow in them and never change the outcome? I just throw some fake "oh no's" in the conversation and dip out. I'm 5w6 INTJ btw 🤦🏽‍♀️

I'm most certain you are not any austistic spectrum if you're an intj Intj is the most mentally advanced of all types I personally believe there is no intj below 160 and most are 180 and above There can't be both mental strength and weakness at the same time
@MrBardun111
@MrBardun111 3 года назад
@@cedriceric9730 bald statement saying having intj personality restricts u from beying in autistic spectrum. Isnt autism on simular level as depresion - that its not well defined and its just asumption of "abnormality" in someones head? Isnt autism just wide field of behaviors and actions - not just the most welknown varieties of exaturation of like not geting sacrasms, focusing on routine, nontalkative taking stuff litteraly, huge rememberence of dates numbers unimportant facts and overall "weird". So couldnt some "weirdneses (diverging from normality since aparently intj is more rarer)" of intj be a ticket to asigning title of beying in autist spectrum? The part where you say that they have too big mental streght so they cant/shoudlnt be in the spectrum is off to me. For example for me the more i was thinking about myself beyign in my head the more i adopted some of the features autists have that are useful. Such as focusing on some goal, not wanting to get distracted by outside things while beying in the zone, not doing pointles social interactions and going straight to the point, beying more truthfull, analyzing situations more to realize what it can actualy mean before speaking etc all of which. To me some autism is like a feature, for example in social situations i view it as strategy of living, i find that strategy of comunication more pleasant and productive then plain talking gibrish with not much purpose then just belonging, beying liked and hence having power of conections and power of the group. I would rather focus on what interests me and make 90% no conections and 10% those that are important with someone who shares the same. Simular to autists or any other antisocial behaviors.

This was so awesome and enlightening. I've only known one female INTJ (that I've been able to type), we were friends in high school (I'm an INFJ female) and whenever we'd sit next to each other in class, I always felt a strange sort of kinship, even though we barely spoke. I guess it was that I never felt like I had to tailor myself to her, like I did with most other people. Makes sense now that I know she was an INTJ. We never became very close friends though, we were probably too much in our own heads.

Funny you say this. As an INTJ female I find INFJ females very very easy to connect with. They’re not super demanding on a day to day basis, but when I spend time with them (1 on 1) we somehow always can skip the pleasantries and get down to the deeper stuff, where we both find meaning. They get that we’re not all alike and that they have strengths I don’t (and wish I had) and possibly vice versa. But man we can go down an Ni fest together 😄 and then have no contact for months with no hard feelings (once we know each other). Edit: I probably wouldn’t have been able to connect like this in high school. Too much in our own heads, as you’ve said

That pipe-water analogy to explain Fi is a good one. The reason we repress feelings is because we need to perform and succeed to survive and feelings are a nuisance. But there may come a time when they can't be ignore and should be dealt with. We need meaning in our lives and we can't slave away to expectations over our core desires and needs. When Fi is calling an INTJ its calling to tell you have bigger worries to deal with, more visceral, more life threatning, and you have to change your focus and your priorities or you'll lose you balance and spiral out of control.

At one point in this video, I watched as one INTJ shared her opinion and then the silent judgment of all of the remaining INTJ's processing away, I got a laugh, thanks. People often misread that judgment of ours. Also, thinking on the mention of INTJ's being opinionated. I believe this is due to another misunderstanding. You see, INTJ are open to discussion on new idea's and opinions but as we develop our opinions into beliefs through research, verification, and logic, then what right does an entry level opinion have against our well developed findings?

As an INTJ male, Arlinda's note on manipulation around the 22:00 minute mark really resonated with me. I function based off my need to adapt based on the situation and those I'm interacting with... Such a strange 'rabbit hole,' as I often question the intensity of my internal Fe struggles based on the idea that I'm being disingenuous. Great video. PS - the general response to Holly's appreciation to being among other INTJ females at 1:31:10 made me really appreciate being an INTJ, seeing it in everyone's eyes yet no one reciprocating with an emotional follow up or spoken reciprocation of their appreciation. The base eye contact and smirks and nods were sufficient, and yet I could likely imagine many other types be like... "Wow, that's awkward" or something lol

The robotic stereotype is probably not related to how one's *own* feelings comes across. Rather when in the Fe blind spot of 'showing consideration', in the way a high Fe would feel one should, one can come across as inconsiderate and therefore 'like a machine'.

Hi Joyce! First comment on one of your videos! I've been binging your panel discussions here and there for the past month or so, and I must say it has been truly helpful. I was/am able to gain a greater understanding of the cognitive functions through observing the cognitive functions at work describing and explaining how they worked. The depth of this topic requires (if not, demands) a lenghty discussion and breakdown to even scratch the surface of its essence which you manage to facilitate with such focus and structure. I admire it so much for it is typically not my strength. (Ne-user) This discussion panel, for instance, gave me more information to understand the relationship between Te and Fi, which are my weak and strong functions. I couldn't really explain or understand how the two functions could interact until the INTJs made that relation. Since Te and Fi are their middle functions versus my Te and Fi being on the outside, they have an easier time building a more harmonious relationship between the two since they are closer set. I don't really know if that makes sense but it just seems that way to me. Knowing the two functions can get along well gives me enough hope to one day build that harmonious relationship between Te-Fi for myself. I truly need it sooner than later! 😂 Anyways, all that just to say: Thank YOU so very much, Joyce, for doing what it takes to share this bounty of knowledge with those curious enough to understand it! I, for one, appreciate it VERY much. ☺👏

I loved the discussion of INTJ feelings. I feel my emotions very intensely at times, but they still seem to exist *gestures vaguely* "over there". I know when my hackles are being raised but at the same time I am (mostly) able to notice my emotional response and think to myself, "I will need to unpack this later, when I am alone." If I ever need to unpack it with someone, it's always with an INFP or ENFP. Fe users seem to judge one's emotional responses quite harshly. Other Fis are my safe space.

On the discussion of having Te/Fi or Fe/Ti, I really appreciated Bernadette's response as I often get confused by which of these axes I'm on. It really resonated with me when she mentioned always being aware of her feelings and monitoring them internally . Also, the discussion about feeling that introverted functions are more "you" and therefore having a stronger connection with them is a nice idea.

I felt so targeted about the email thing with best regards and meetings. My trick to that is starting by: Hello Joyce, Happy Friday! "mail straight to the point" Have a nice day, Nadia Trust me, it does change everything. For meetings, fortunately for me so far, my sales colleagues take care of the small talks and I can go directly to my thing as a project manager.

I admire the INTJs who can do panels like this. I've been invited to talk with a pod caster about Buck Rogers, especially about its origins in Armageddon 2419 AD and The Airlords of Han, but even the idea of doing it overwhelmed me with such dread that even after re-reading the early stories and comics (again) and writing down notes that I could refer to during the discussion, I still didn't feel like I could handle it. If finally had to bow out of the discussion and admit to the guy that I couldn't cope with the idea of having a recorded conversation about it, even if it was just with a microphone and not a camera. He was disappointed but when I explained to him that I'm very introverted and was currently in a bit of a bad place, he said he understood. You guys are braver than me. :) If I was in a panel like this, I'd be one of the quiet ones who would need prompting to add to the conversation. :) The trick to getting typed correctly seems to be to avoid picking the socially acceptable responses to questions in quizzes and instead to make sure that you respond with how you authentically think and feel about what is being asked. If I slip up and let myself answer the way that most people would expect a 'good' or 'socially acceptable' person to respond, I wind up testing as INFJ instead. Then, I read about the type variants or subtypes and realized that I've always been driven to create or maintain harmony as a way to avoid conflict. I find conflict, especially emotionally charged conflict, to be as painful as a physical injury. Rodella is so right. We live in our heads so much that the physical realm seems difficult for us to cope with. I don't know about anyone else, but I have to intentionally focus to avoid daydreaming. I would daydream all of the time if life didn't require me to 'come back to Earth' and deal with reality sometimes. I get asked to be the dungeon master, or DM so much in my circle of RPG friends because I enjoy the planning, writing, research, map drawing, minis painting etc. of the game so much. I design RPG campaigns in ways that I can manipulate or 'railroad' the players so that the story's plot can unfold regardless of what they decide to do. As I've practiced it, I've gotten better at hiding the strings or the railroad tracks. I'm probably at my most INTJ when I'm writing RPG campaigns. When I am a player, I have to focus on my character and try to see the story through his eyes in order to avoid 'meta gaming'. I usually try to cover up this natural tendency to think way ahead and predict what will happen next by making my character something of a 'mastermind' or paranoid type of person who worries about what might happen all the time. That's not too much of a stretch I've come to realize. When it comes to writing emails, even comments on social media, or unhurried texts, I try to write the 'right' way. I think is partly because I was taught in school and at home that you are supposed to write a certain way. I've gradually loosened up a bit, but whenever I first start writing to people, I am very formal and will include salutations, topic sentences, supporting details, etc. My emails are formatted like 'Dear Mr. Smith......sincerely' and the whole bit. I don't loosen up with them until I see a couple of replies from them and see how formal or informal, they are. Then, I will try to match their tone. I prefer to communicate with people via writing rather than in person. I guess it's part of the need for control that I would rather write since I can edit what I'm saying to them. I so wish that I could edit myself when I am talking out loud. Sometimes, I realize that what I just said makes no sense or could have been said better. I love social media, emails, texts etc. so much. Arlinda is right on when it comes to emojis! I use them in an effort to convey some kind of emotion. When I realize that what I'm saying might be taken the wrong way, I'll add a smiley face to try to soften the blow or to indicate that I really do consider what I just typed to actually be funny or friendly. There's a commercial playing for Cox Communications lately about how people with Asperger's Syndrome have trouble with expressing emotions, or detecting the intent of body language, but they can understand emojis more easily. I can relate to that. I have trouble with it myself and I feel like maybe if I use emojis, it will convey my intent better. I know what you mean, Bernadette, about trying to engage in small talk. The other person I'm talking with pretty much as to lead the conversation and start the small talk and keep it going. If they are waiting on me to engage that way, it's so awkward. I recently met a friend in person whom I'd met here on RU-vid through his videos about Star Wars collectibles. I bet that our conversation was so humorous to anyone who overheard it because of how awkward we both were with actually talking to another human in person. He was comfortable with talking to a camera and writing and I was comfortable with writing, but neither one of us handled face to face very well. :) Once we got into the nitty gritty of the collectibles themselves, we were fine, but the small talk leading up to that was almost painful. Yes, Holly, when I watch movies, I always predict what will happen next and am usually right. I think it's why I love watching and reading mysteries because it's more of a challenge to predict the story than it is with most other genres. Some genres are so predictable that they are actually boring. My wife likes romantic dramas and comedies. I have to resist the temptation to predict out loud what will happen next, especially when I find the plot to be so silly that it makes me laugh, even at the parts that aren't supposed to be funny. It's also why I love the TV show MST3K so much because they are doing exactly what I've always done, at least in my head, when watching movies. Sometimes, my wife is in the mood for that sort of humor and she'll join in with me in riffing a bad movie. That's one of those moments when I really enjoy being with her. I usually do, but times like that when we are sharing a moment and both enjoying it totally that I remember later on when I'm feeling like the hermit and wondering what I was thinking when I asked someone to marry me and live with me. :) This video is so good! I relate to you guys so much. All of my friends are accidental or because of something we were doing at the same time - shared experiences. My mom pushed me into doing socially based activities like band, choir, 4-H club, church etc. She even pushed me into joining a fraternity in college, much to the surprise of the guys who would come to our ranch and visit. They were used to the student being more excited about joining than the parents were. She was worried that I'd become a hermit if I didn't meet people intentionally like that. I'm still that way, only now it's coworkers or my wife who kind of push me into being more social. My default as a kid and now, is to be by myself in my own world. Though I did help my grandfather and father on the ranch with the chores a lot, I spent most of my time with my grandmother and mother when I was little because of my health problems which made me so clumsy and prone to illness. So, I maybe am a bit more influenced by the women in my family than the men. I knew I should be more like the rest of the guys, but I just wasn't. I picked up on my mom's and grandma's more harmonizing, people pleasing ways in a subconscious way. Inside, my inner voice has never really been comfortable with all the Fe stuff and still isn't, but I learned to act like them in order to fit in with them and their friends. I was raised to show people I care about them by helping them with problems or doing things for them. My mom would get so emotional about problems. I was uncomfortable with dealing with the emotions, but I'd figure out how to logically solve the problem hoping that the problem being solved would make her feel better. Though they did a good job, in retrospect, of letting me be me and engage in my interests with books, plants, birds, board games, etc. The other boys thought I was weird because I wasn't into football, rodeo, etc. Debate is easy and enjoyable for me as long as it stays in the logical realm. If anyone in the debate starts using emotional blackmail or personal attacks or something, then I'm done if I can't see any way to elevate the debate back up again. Once a debate turns into an emotional fight, I retreat from it. But if things stay constructive, then it can be a great learning experience. I struggle with dealing with feelings that are irrational to me and that don't seem to have a solution to them. When someone close to me dies, that's an especially tough one. Dealing with loss is hard because I instinctively want to solve it and the only solution that I've come up with for 'solving' grief is to allow myself to express it freely rather than repress it. You can't bring the dead loved one back to life, so all you can do is keep them 'alive' mentally by thinking about all the good times you had with them, things they used to tell you, etc. In some cases, it helps me cope with grief if I have something personal of theirs that they gave me or that their spouse gave me. For example, my grandma gave me my grandpa's harmonicas after he died. When I play them, or even look at them, I think of him. Thanks so much for making this video, Joyce!

Infj here. So overall I find that the video with all of your multiple voices echoing similar or the same sound resonates as a beautiful orchestra. .... You're each saying the same thing. What this does for me as an infj: what you have demonstrated has broadened my understanding of your intj perspective and by having so many examples shown it helps me integrate it into my own consciousness to a much greater degree than when one person demonstrates it. So thank you for that. If you want to know what might be interesting to the rest of your audience here are some suggestions: Could you all talk about how your dominant and non-dominant aspects affect your relationships with your significant others on a more intimate level? How do you deal with grief or any other major emotional issue such as a loss, a breakup or a death of a loved one affect you? Can you describe how that affect moves through your consciousness? Your description of your viewpoint of the sensory world as seeming foreign to you is interesting. You naturally experience what I seek to always establish within meditation. Namely being disconnected from the external world. So here's my next question. When you experience physical contact from a loved one or you experience a sensory or sensual experience such as a smell, the feel of water as you swim, the taste of food, sex, or hearing sounds as they enter your ears, how does your consciousness respond cognitively as you correlate these experiences with how you feel in your heart about the experiences? I want to thank you again for your expansive input as well as singular description of particular things. It is very helpful to helping me understand your personality type. And finally, on an emotional feeling level I would just like to say that I recognize your inherent strengths and challenges but the structure of the blueprint of your consciousness to me, is beautiful. When we can all recognize the beauty in all things this is our path to peace. 🙏

When it comes to INTJs being judgmental we absolutely can be, but you have to think hard about how you are doing it. We aren't judgmental over petty things like the way someone dresses, their social status or what hobbies they have, in that regard we are very live and let live since that's stupid. But when it comes to more serious personality flaws like laziness and weak character like a lack of self respect or them being manipulative, then we can be extremely judgmental. Though when we do it it is usually not aimed at a specific person but more like a broad group of people who have traits we can't stand. That is likely why many INTJs will never say they are judgmental, because that usually implies petty and dumb sensory things like someone's hair and in that regard we aren't like that in the slightest.

To add to Bernadette's very productive conversation with her ISFJ friend, I think high Fe people are often interested in managing the emotions/atmosphere/mood in the room. People with high Fi recognize that and are able to play along/help. The rest with low Fi and low Fe tend not to notice and also tend not to care about it.

1:27:54 Yes, In order for you to see the underlying pattern, you got to zoom out of the details. I did this exercise a lot with colours when I was little. To sort of just blur out the details of all "the stuff" in a scene/in sight and just notice which colours were present and how they would harmonize with each other. That is a good representation of how you have to zoom out of focus wrt the details and scrape them away in order so see the underæying structure.

INTJ girl here asking for INTJ opinions.... I was asked a question by a friend and work colleague once and years later I still can't answer it. He said "I can't tell. Are you a confident individual feigning insecurity or are you insecure putting on a show of confidence?" Is this something that resonates with other INTJs at all?
@tigerheaddude
@tigerheaddude 3 года назад
Intp here. I know 3 INTJs in my life, I can think that of the youngest one I know, he's about 22 years old. but the other two (early thirties and forties), I feel the confidence and competence just oozing out their every pore with no signs of insecurity at all. All of them male. My unasked for theory is: with more experience and knowledge, the INTJ gains a lot more confidence in themselves and their abilities and it shows without even trying to, moreso than other types.
@bernadette7313
@bernadette7313 3 года назад
A theory from my perspective - Perhaps it stems from Ni-Te gaining experience. The pairing of the 2 functions allows you to materialize that which you envision. In a sense, you know you can do it. Perhaps it comes with time + experience as you learn to trust your cognitive functions/preference. I think where INTJs can feel insecure is in the realm of Se - “Can I adapt to the chaos of reality?” For this, I’ve found observing ENTJs and ESFPs can be helpful.
@rodellachowdhury3893
@rodellachowdhury3893 3 года назад
I agree with with tigerheaddude's theory to an extent and to what Bernadette has added about Se. Personally, I don't think we're necessarily putting on a show either way. Confidence is not a static thing but something that rather fluctuates with the task at hand and even the day. For instance, we were more actively involved in a task that we have a mastery of, we can come off as fairly confident. However, if it's something new and out of our comfort zone, we'd be more humble and open to learning. In short, I am neither one of those things but just someone trying to find my way.
@i3ignorantidelweb43
@i3ignorantidelweb43 3 года назад
for me it's the first one because the insecurity is on the outside not being enough for the real world and new experiences but in the inside like competes, ideas, temper is confident
