Today we’re going to talk about cholesterol, and I want to cover the seven foods that lower bad cholesterol.
HDL is considered good cholesterol, and LDL is considered bad cholesterol. But, there are two types of LDL. The real villain when it comes to cholesterol and heart problems is a very specific type of LDL.
To measure this type of LDL, you have to ask for a test called an advanced lipid profile test. With this test, they’re looking at the number and size of the particles that carry cholesterol.
The two types, or particle sizes, of LDL, are:
1. The large buoyant (pattern A)
2. The small dense (pattern B)
The small dense LDL particles are the ones you have to be concerned about because they can penetrate the arteries, even though the large buoyant type carries more cholesterol. Small dense LDL is a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease.
This topic can be confusing because some people have low LDL cholesterol but a high number of small dense particles. Others have high LDL with a high number of large buoyant particles. This is why it’s so important to get an advanced lipid profile test, so you have the whole picture of what’s going on.
Top foods that lower bad cholesterol (small dense LDL):
1. Extra virgin olive oil
2. Avocados
3. Fish oils or cod liver oil
4. Pistachios
5. Dark chocolate (sugar-free)
6. Almonds
7. Walnuts
Other things you can do to lower cholesterol naturally:
• Take vitamin B3 (niacin)
• Exercise
• Take TUDCA

We went for a LDL check and found high LDL, from the very next day we started consuming your suggested food. Within 3 day we see a very unexpected result. Now despite not maintaining other precautions BP is still under control. This does not mean we will not take precautions.

I was reading a research paper today that contained an equation for calculating the sdLDL from the usual HDL LDL and triglyceride values in the regular cholesterol test. The equation was derived from a lot of research and correlation. Handily the website provides an Excel spreadsheet to use. It was difficult to find the recommended levels for sdLDL but an older male like me might have a max of 45mg/dL but more typical max would be 32 I would say. Mine is 57, hence my interest! In the UK the advanced test is not regularly done. I think cost is a factor and also there is more than one method, and it’s not performed widely. I also find that doctors are not up to date with sdLDL and will only ever ask for the regular LDL and HDL test plus TG.

I have a question for Dr. Berg , I am from the Middle East and we drink hot tea with breakfast and now they’re telling me that black tea is not good with food it’s like you don’t benefit from the food if you drink hot black tea is that true Dr Berg ?? I usually add fresh mint to my tea .
@danih7577
@danih7577 10 месяцев назад
@@asmawier3949 I have read that if you drink any type of fluid with your meal it interferes ( waters down) your stomach PH so you don’t absorb the maximum nutrients that you can without a beverage. It’s a hard habit for me to break, but I know that I don’t have the best absorption as it is based on a Great Plains Oats test that I took there was some low protein absorption . Years later I went to a nutritionist that my endocrinologist sent me to and she recommended extra protein in the form of organic pea protein. She was able to determine poor protein absorption based on my symptoms and autoimmune disease. Ie., lots of fatigue. So if there’s some symptoms that need improvement I’m willing to change my habits when I eat for nutritional health and healing. I hope your in good health .

My understanding of LDL is from the liver's inability to metabolize sugar completely into blood, leaving nano particles to get trapped and cling together (jagged edges) in narrow capillaries of the brain, kidneys, liver and acute angles of the vascular system, including pockets around heart valves. Sugar is a crystal after all.

I have now been taking your K2 and D3 product to help direct the calcium from arteries to the bones. @thebankerlounge I would go for the pasture raised lamb. It’s more nutrient dense than poultry and much better being pasture raised grass fed. The non organic part could be the drenches for parasites but it’s not a big deal imo. In Aus if I buy lamb I buy Tasmanian grassfed lamb not mucked around with. Mostly I buy grass fed beef, sometimes “ organic “ beef. I avoid poultry in my keto diet. That lamb would be great. Get eggs though, get organic eggs.

This is very good, Dr. Berg. Many years ago I had high cholesterol and my doctor ordered an advanced lipid profile and saw that 95% was the fluffy light LDL. My cholesterol is normal now, never took statins or anything, and today in the NYT they had an article about Statins that talked about how in many people, STATINS CAUSED DIABETES. They did not go as far to say it was because of the small dense LDL. I am getting close to full carnivore here, though I do still eat a few squares of 78% dark chocolate with some almond butter almost daily. It's not sugar free, but at least sugar is NOT the first ingredient. I know sugar is deadly. My functional medicine doc has harped on me for years: You gotta give up sugar. You gotta give up gluten. You gotta give up dairy. I still put a splash of heavy cream in my coffee, but I'm not drinking the cream to fill myself up anymore. There's only one kind of bread that I occasionally eat, which is a focaccia that is produced locally. I have ordered some packages of Carnivore Crisps to take the place of that bread, which I like to broil under a mountain of fresh grated parmesan, for crunch and umami. Methinks the chicken skin Carnivore Crisps will fit the bill.

If you're worried about LDL, you probably want to look up the videos by Doctor David Diamond, a cardiologist. It's mostly bunk unless you have a specific genotype. If anything, you might want to look at Lipoprotein (a), HDL, and LDL-P (as Dr Berg indicated.) What most keto dieters see is their HDL rising, which is good, and triglycerides falling, which is also good. LDL can vary in either direction for people on keto. I was a couple weeks fasted when I got my panel once, and my LDL was over 200, which concerned my (non-keto-friendly) doctor. I had watch some Dave Feldman videos (Cholesterol Code guy) to find out why. I implemented the Feldman Protocol next time, and my doctor was happy. Then I told him how I crammed for his test and fired him. I now have a respected keto doctor.

For several years I saw a functional medicine internist who was also a board certified cardiologist. As I was post-menopausal, my Cholesterol kept creeping up and up. She kept saying, "It's only a number." and assured me that I had "big, fluffy particles" so I was OK. Still, given that I was now over 60 and knew that I had elevated LP(a) and a family history of stroke, I requested a Calcium Artery scan and a carotid ultrasound and both pointed to mild arteriosclerosis. In response, I went predominately whole food plant based and my numbers came down significantly, but not enough, given my genetically based high (LP(a) . I found a lifestyle, plant centered cardiologist and now feel I'm in better hands. "It's only a number" and "big fluffy particles" didn't wash away what was going on in my arteries.

Dr Berg - this is a great list. I have to add a comment here that for years I ate these and my cholesterol levels did not go down. I was not gaining too much weight overall. I was skinny fat. However, I had toxins in my systems. Once I started using clays to cleanse everyday, the protruding gut disappeared in 3 weeks! I guess the clays bound to the fats in the gut and cleaned them out repeatedly over the 21 days. I look slimmer now. So, perhaps this is something others can try. Oh, I did tests at the end of last month and all my cholesterol levels were in the normal range. I am about to hit 2 month mark on clays. I intend to go on using them daily for another month, then cut down to 2-3 times a week for maintenance.
