As a Leicester fan I absolutely loved our great escape in 2014/15. The turn around was fantastic and really enjoyable to watch. I treasure that season just as much as the title winning season. As far as I'm concerned it was just as special. Certainly deserves a lot more recognition (in regards to Leicester City discussion).

Agreed, proper hard working team and manager. Pearson dosent get enough credit for his role in building the Leicester team who won the league from outsiders. They just see the press conference antics and credit it all to the more marketable rainieri

The 15/16 relegation escape of Hamburg in the Bundesliga should be in there. In the relegation playoffs we played against Karlsruhe, where we lost the first game 1:0. In the second game it was 1:1 in the 95th Minute, when Marcelo Díaz scored a insane free kick goal, and we stayed in the Bundesliga. It was incredible.

I can think of another one (though some in the video were more impressive): Randers FC in 2009-10 in the Danish league. A winless run of 17 games in the first half of the season, before beating fellow relegation candidate HB Køge on matchday 18 right before the winter break. After the winter break, they were undefeated in the remaining 15 games, securing another season in the Danish league (with AGF, who were in third at the winter break, being relegated).

Great video, Alfie! I'm brazilian and a Fluminense supporter, so It's really nice to see the 2009's escape been remenbered! It was a perhaps the biggest rollercoster of emotions I've experienced as a fan, since the relegation seemed unavoidble at some point! I really love how much this channel makes the effort to look football (historically and currently) outside of Europe! It's not common for english Football channels and I really appreciate It! 😁 Oh, and I have a video suggestion to make, If it is possible: you could talk about, from a englishman perspective, which individual award is more prestigious and has the fairest criteria - the Ballon D'or x The Fifa Best Player Award (today known as FIFA The Best). It's funny, 'cause from a Brazilian perspective, the FIFA award' is normally more renowned, for being the more "official one" from Football's main Entity. The Ballon D'or got more well known around here arguably in the last two decades, since it was exclusively for Europeans up until 1995. To me, It seems the France Football award is more important, due to It's tradition. I'd like to hear Alfie's opinion on this topic. Greetings!

Platense in Argentina. 1977: Tied tiebreaker, penalties, long enough for goalkeepers to kick (their goalkeeper somehow skipped it). 1978: Won last match, tying would have sent to 3-way tiebraker 1979: 4-way tiebreaker, one to stay. 1985/6: 0-2 to 2-2 in next to last round, 0-3 to 4-4 in last round. 1986/7: A substitute's hat trick to get 3-2 from 0-2. 1987/8: Just good enough run to avoid relegation (3 last seasons were used at this time). Maybe not a single one gets in the list, but the run should.

Bristol Rovers ended up going down 0-1 in the first 20 minutes against already relegated Dagenham. The game ended 2-1 with a 92nd minute goal sending rovers up. Whilst accrington had hit the woodwork 4 times in their final game of the season against stevenage. Both oxford and Bristol rovers went up automatically (just an example)

Coventry in 1984/85 in 1. division of England (top tier at the time). All other games in the relegation zone had been played except for three matches that Coventry had left. They were trailing by eight points, so they had to win them all. The final match was against the champions that season - Everton, who had lost only one of their last 25 matches. Well, Coventry did win them all. The one against Everton with 4-1, and Norwich got relegated instead!

Still want someone to explain to the world that Brasil has the only major league where you can have no clue who will finish in the top 6 even by the middle of the season

More roster turnover when you have both European and Americas transfer windows. As in MLS, Argentinian, and Brazilian teams are the threats when North and South American supercontinent windows are open but Portuguese and mid to lower budget big 5 clubs eye Brazilian talent as well.

My number one is The Wednesday, who avoided relegation from the First Division by one point in 1927/28 by winning seven and drawing three of their last 10 games (including five wins and a draw in their last six). They were the Champions the following season and the season after that.

I remember that 13-14 season very well. It was the season of the Gerrard slip. But really, that slip made people forget it was actually Chelsea who blew it big time, losing to Villa, Sunderland, and Palace, and drawing at home to Norwich in their final 7 games. 10 points dropped and they finished 4 points behind City for the title. But I also remember thoroughly enjoying that Sunderland rescue. I remember watching their game at the Etihad like it was yesterday... Fernandinho scored after 2 minutes and it looked like it would be a classic City rout at home. but Sunderland hung on, got to halftime at just 1-0 down, wickham scored 2 second half goals and they would've won the game had Vito Mannone not spilled a shot from Samir Nasri. Nasri then had a great chance to win the game and missed. As much as their win at Stamford bridge hurt, it was mightily impressive. Jose Mourinho hadn't lost in his first 70-something home league games in charge of Chelsea, and again Sunderland conceded early, and again they came back and this time hung on to win. Mark Schwarzer spilled a rebound and Azpi brought down Altidore late in the game and borini scored on the ensuing penalty. What a mental season that was. The prem is not the same without Sunderland's miracle escapes.

@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 Not really, if you're picking a men's national team then you have the choice of 15000 people but when you remove kids and older people that probably leaves 5000. Now how many of those 5000 people would even be interested in football at all. Can't really make much of a national team if you're picking from a pool as large as your local neighborhood. Nothing else to it. No point wasting a video on that.

Little bit disappointed afcb Bournemouth's great escape of 08/09 isn't on the list. Started season on -17 points and under a transfer embargo, survived on last home game of the season, went on to be promoted the next season whilst still under a transfer embargo.

For Bolton it has to be Wilbraham's late winning goal against Forest to stay in the Championship in May 2018, but the end of the 02-03 season was good too

I'm just kinda surprised that my favorite relegation escape - Wigan in 2011/12 - didn't even get an honorable mention. Going from last place to beating Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, and Newcastle in a 5 week span, along with only losing to Chelsea due to a stoppage time Juan Mata goal.... I thought that would merit something. Still, some serious stories on here. Especially those top 2

Maybe a part 2 I think a good one could be rochdale 17/18 last day a player who was twice told he wouldn’t play football again because of cancer which he beat twice then to score in the final minutes and send there rivals down to Leauge 2 ?

Very good video, but what about Burnley & Torquay in 1986-87, the first season there were automatic relegation from the Football League? I remember that I sat at home in Norway listening to BBC Radios live coverage of the 2nd half of their last match against Orient which they had to win. They duly did, and Lincoln were relegated finding themselves bottom for the only time of the season! Burnley jumped up two places with their win as the team who finshed next-to-bottom, Torquay saved themselves from relegation from the Football League with a goal in a injury time which mostly were added on b/c a police dog bit Torquays captain!

Where is the Albion in 04/05? Who was the assistant manager for the Albion that year? None other than Nigel Pearson. But after a good run of results Albion still stood a chance of staying up. They needed to beat Portsmouth and hope that Southampton, Palace and Norwich all lost....which they did.
