@@destynhepworth5293 Like nearly everything involving any of Bethesda's Intellectual Property, level scaling is definitely on there. Reasonable odds it's actually much harder at level 27 than it would be if you just sprinted to the relevant dialogue trigger right from the tutorial.

Okay so how many of us thought when it was revealed that Metal Gear Solid 3 was on this list that they were going to talk about fighting The End and just moving your system clock forward so that he dies of old age? Glad to see this one didn't go with the obvious boss.

Final Fantasy IV: Cecil’s battle with his Dark Knight self, once he becomes a Paladin. You could try to fight him, but you’re way better off defending and casting your nifty new healing spells on yourself, until the Dark Knight drains all his own HP away by repeatedly using his Dark Wave attack. It’s a metaphor for not giving into violence as the answer, in order to prove yourself worthy of the powers that you’ll use to do violence to every other boss fight in the game.
Also the Doom Train in 6 and the Gi Spirit in 7 deserve mention as both can simply be killed by using a phoenix down on them. Aerith... not so much....
In the FF2 version for the SNES, Dark Wave was dummied out as a player ability, so players had no way of knowing that Darkness/Dark Wave ate your health and that's why you shouldn't bother attacking. Dark Knight Cecil just kinda dropped dead for no apparent reason after a few rounds.
Going by old World of Darkness canon, that werewolf almost certainly did have a family waiting for him back home. A very big, very angry family. Not exactly human, though. Werewolves are pack hunters, and also very family-oriented. Some of their family are wolves, some are humans, and some are full-fledged werewolves. But even the humans aren't *exactly* human; they're "kinfolk," which is like being a human, except with magical spirit powers and a lot of very large, fuzzy cousins. Most kinfolk know exactly what they are, know about vampires, werewolves and the other supernatural creatures of the night, and know their way around a shotgun. Not the kind of family you want to piss off by crushing their uncle in a door. But, such is undeath in the World of Darkness.

@@a.j.abrams3550 Thanks! I think. Werewolf the Apocalypse, which is sort-of a sister game to Vampire the Masquerade, was a guilty pleasure back in my college years. It was, if you can believe it, darker and bloodier than Vampire. I prefer VtM these days, but Werewolf was one of the first tabletop RPGs I played, aside from D&D, so a lot of the lore stuck with me. But I'm a massive geek, so enthusiastically gushing and oversharing about lore and characters from make-believe worlds is kinda my whole thing. Glad it gave you a smile.

You can beat ALMOST all bosses from duke nukem 3d (20 year edition) without shooting! (Still trying to find a way if u can beat the alien queen (episode 4) without shooting or finding an exit switch! is there even one in her level?)
This makes me remember, i messed up in MGS3. I was trying to do a "don't kill anyone" run, but accidentally killed a soldier when my weapon automatically switched to a letal one after a cutscene. Like a idiot, i also saved the game just after that. In the next encounter with a enemy, i noticed the letal pistol. Then i checked the statistics and there it was, 1 dead guy. It was so humiliating to reach The Sorrow and there is just this one freaking guy waiting for me, lol. I should try that again sometime..
What’s funny is that you can be an absolute mass-murderer as long as you don’t kill people directly. Knock someone out and drop them in water so they drown or throw them off a cliff? Let loose a venomous animal that bites and kills them? Poison them with bad food/rations? Drop them on an electric fence so they electrocute? None of these count as “lethal” as far as the game is concerned.

If you took only tranquilizer run then its a painless walk, Alternatively Take a fake death pill/wave around the knockout handkerchief till you pass out . Then revive, dont know if that allows the camo or not. The real boss they missed was that ladder in MGS3 . You know the one
On ps2 during the fight with The End I remember you can change the date in console settings to two weeks out and when you load your save he dies of dehydration/malnourishment
That boss fight with the sorrow in MGS was so weird. I did a play through where I didn't kill anyone and the river was empty. I just trekked through the river until the end lol.
well, the bosses are still there. they detonate their mircrobombs and die regardless of whether you non lethally defeat them. the Pain, Fear and End and one other? always show up.
Without hit so caeseless discharge is out unless you don't get hit then every boss in souls game if you don't hit or anyone from playing with you then tauros demon and iron golem
Bows, crossbows, and magic are all projectile based and therefore count as shooting. What a true pedant would balk at is that it's still necessary to actually _attack_ CD to begin with unlike the other entries.
@@biohazard724 Technically, it isn't. The example they used had them whacking away at it to kill it, but a similar yet different way of doing more-or-less the same thing has CD jump to its death without you needing to hit it. I'll be honest, I used that cheese to kill him.
The Fear's another one you can beat without fighting- just bring some rotten food with you. Drop it on the ground, and when he uses up his stamina he'll get hungry, grab your moldy lunch and munch it down- and then get sick from it. Repeat this a couple of times and he passes out. Also, Quiet from MGS V- you can beat her by calling in supply drops onto her position. They drop in, bonk her on the head and take out half her health. Do it twice and she's nonlethally taken out- and you get an S rank on your mission.
Also The End in MGS3, setting the game consoles clock a week forward causes him to die of old age. Wow, that game sure has a lot of ways to dispatch enemies without firing a shot.

There's an optional boss in Final Fantasy V called Gogo who will tell you to do as he does. Any attack from your party will be met with a devastating spell, but he never attacks first so you just have to wait a few minutes and you'll "win" the fight.
That "battle" against the Sorrow took me way too long to figure out. I had killed a battalion worth of soldiers by that point in the game, so the slog took forever, and I ended up having to do it five or six times before I tried anything different and accidentally found the revival pill.
Ceaseless Discharge was also weird. They attacked to make it fall. That either doesn't count or all bosses killed by close combat should be on the list
fallout 1? you could literally talk the end boss The Master into killing himself and walk out mostly unharmed before he ultimately blew himself and his whole army up
No mention of Daud from Dishonored? Going for a clean hands and perfect stealth run takes a ton of carefully timed blinks and maneuvers to get past him unseen.
Andy Reinsel and there’s also the Mostly Flesh and Steel/Ghost/Clean Hands run where you can’t use powers other than Blink 1, can’t kill, and can’t be seen.
Dishonored didn't really have bosses, not really. Normally Boss fights are constrained to arenas. Daud was pretty much just another enemy similar to his Assassins or the Dunwall City Watch. Granny Rags could relate more to being a Boss. If anything, I'd say Delilah was more of a boss in Daud's Brigmore Witches DLC with the Void arena she's settled up in. :-)
Hmmm....never knew about that observatory door trick. In VtM:B. I just capitalized on a weird glitch where you hide behind a set of three trees. Then I would go get a snack while the werewolf flailed uselessly at me for 4 mins. 😆
The rancor in Knights of the Old Republic. Granted, it's more of a tutorial on stealth than anything else, but it's still pretty exciting to beat the most powerful enemy up to that point in the game but feeding it an explosive. Also, any zombie enemy that you can kill by lobbing a Potion or Phoenix Down at.

No Joke, the only reason I beat it was I tossed the controller in frustration and I caught the Item selection pop up when it hit the wall. This was one of many evil and Beautiful tricks MGS has played on it's players. Easily the MOST interesting fourth wall breaking series. ( except perhaps Eternal Darkness) They need a list of the Most MInd Bending (Mind fucking) game moments.
Okay, but this being D&D: what sort of artillery will those squirrels have? Unless you're actually gonna equip them with some sort of personal catapults :D
What about the Darkness? Jackie unloads every round he has into it just to realise he needs to embrace it. After a game where you basically use the Dark powers until the end and realise its evil so you reject it. Then you can't complete the battle because each round pumped in creates a creature from the darkness.
I think Legate Lanius from Fallout New Vegas is a pretty good contender. Crazy intimidating armor and a freaking massive sword, been talked up for the whole game, and you can talk him down.
They've done that so many times in these videos, I never finished New Vegas but I've seen that Legate Lanius scene probably 50 times. "You speak wisdom, traveler of the West" *runs off awkwardly* lol.

@@ewwpoorpeople5684 Honestly, if you've spent the entire game doing your best to make peace, and make the wasteland a better place for you having been there as kindly as possible. It's kind of a reward. Think of it this way, rather than focus on fighting, you focused on diplomacy. And it requires the penultimate skill in diplomacy to get him to back down. That said, I'd still wish to see an engrossing dialog between protag and boss. To have a philosophically challenging discourse where you have to lean on what you learned of the boss, and the philosophy that lead you to where you are now... but knowing Bethesda, it's just a skill check alone and requires no player brain power and is pre-ambled with a (Click hear for skill check) indicator.
I'm surprised Marchenko from Deus Ex: Mankind Evolved isn't on this list. All you need is a switch found earlier in the game to kill him before the fight even starts.

Soulcage in Final Fantasy 9: if you cast life on it, or give it an elixir, it instantly dies, because it is undead and has 100% weakness to Holy magic.
I did not know you could do that with the werewolf. I always ran back into the tram shack & glitched the game out so that I ended up on the other side of the metal bars. He loses interest & walks away when you do that
One of my favorite moments pertaining to this alternate win condition can be found in Wonder Boy in Monster World, where you encounter a Sphinx in the Maugham Desert. Naturally, given that he is a Sphinx, he asks you five questions about the events in the game that have transpired up to that point, as well as basic facts about each of the many levels. If you happen to answer 4 or 5 of them correctly, he'll just let you move on to the next level. On the other hand, if you answer none of them correctly, or even one, for that matter, you'll be faced with instant death...or a chance to fight him to the death (if my recollection of that one challenge in the PS3 port is correct). Absolute golden moment.
I just realized something: technically, MOST bosses in bullet hell games can be defeated by just waiting for them to explode. One specific favorite of mine is the Sakura boss fight from Deathsmiles 1. If you're playing as Windia, you encounter Sakura and have this heartfelt moment...only to break into a fight that fills the screen with bullets. However, here's a catch: if you don't attack Sakura and spend however-long-it-takes to survive her attacks without striking back yourself (no shots or bombs), she will eventually give up and...explode? And, yes, before you ask: you get an achievement for it on 360 and Steam.
My sister was a total non-lethal player when she played MGS 3. Hilariously, when she played the game, she accidentally killed a single soldier when she knocked him out and he slid down the side of a cliff to his death. She saw only one person at the river before she won the boss battle.
No wonder why they keep showing the same clips, because new people keep coming and asking why they aren't here. They've made basically this exact video before with the different name, and they used that Quiet clip in at least three other videos, so that's why it's not on here. I'm not talking trash on them by the way this is my favorite RU-vid channel, I'm just saying there's only so many clips that you can use in like a decade, and they've definitely used that one a lot, and I'm almost certain they've used it quite recently too. I loved and still love that the end boss of Deus Ex: Human Revolution could be defeated by entering 2012 into the central console where the trapped Augs were placed into. I don't know if they chose 2012 as the code whether it was because of the year the game was released or the end of the world theory that was really hot at the time. Lol
There was that one Boss in the witcher 3 that would leave you alone when you sacrificed some Wolf hearts. You had to kill the wolves though... But when you do that using a sword, you technically haven't FIRED A SHOT...
Some of the non-fighting boss kills were added to HR because fans of the original complained that you can't fight bullet sponges if you went for a stealth build. Original game, of course, was the one that introduced the idea of taking out the bosses without fighting. E.g. finding kill words for the mech bosses.

Ceaseless Disharge is named as such because he is the source of the lava that prevents you getting to the ruins below. His Japanese name roughly means "The thing that keeps on being sore", which is a bit more poetic given what happened to him.
Fun fact: in mgs 3 you can go the whole game without killing a single enemy also the old man sniper you can kill before the actual boss fight and he's replaced by a bunch of basic enemies

how about bosses you have the option of just talking out of it? Like the Master in Fallout, Colonel Autumn in Fallout 3, Legate Lanius in New vegas and Sophia Akande in The Outer Worlds
I think that's skirting the definition a bit... Though if you wanted to stay in the spirit of "without firing a shot" as in, "bypassing the intended fight", you could just save up the spider doughnut from the ruins and then eat it as soon as the battle with Muffet starts, ending it immediately.
OMG! I just remembered Outside Xbox had that overseer boss fellow suddenly appear shortly before they went on lock-down. Did they beat this boss without ever firing a shot by just staying at home?
I thought the Metal Gear entry would be The End. Not using weapons in The Sorrow's fight is the way you're supposed to win but you CAN but dont have to use weapons against The End. Just fast forward the system clock. He dies of old age. Just seems a bit misleading with the title of the video. Boss fight you CAN beat without shooting. It suggests that normally you WOULD shoot to win.

Funny thing regarding Vampires, because in some games the way the represent it, that most the Vampires we encounter are nothing but just lesser beasts.... I mean if you play Witcher 3 and Skyrim you would understand or even watch Underworld. The ones we meet are just mere low ranking really weak ones....in actual fact there are some Vampires are so fucking powerful that I highly doubt that they are afraid of a puny dog ( werewolf ) lol.... Especially Witcher 3's Elder Vampires....kinda bullshit lol...they are literally NEAR immortal....
Some of these seem to ignore the title... A better Dark Souls one would've been from Dark Souls 2, the Dragonrider. If you don't pull either lever to raise the platforms before the fight, you can just dodge when he charges and watch him fall off on his own. No attack needed.

Interesting thing about the last boss mentioned in this series (the Sorrow). Sure you can walk ALL the way to the end and use the revival; this bags you the special camo. After that, in subsequent playthroughs, just whip out the handkerchief and wave it in front of you 3x. This makes you pass out, fall into the water, and "drown". Then "revive" - takes only a few seconds.
I'm actually kinda shocked they didn't mention the Metal Gear Solid 3 easter egg where you could beat The End (the old sniper fellow) literally without firing a shot at all. You would have to save your game, then turn the game off. Start your PS2 back up, then go into your options and change the date to around 50 years into the future. Start up MSG3 again, load your save, then carry on with your business like normal. You'll eventually find the dead body of The End, dead from old age.
Muffet from Undertale is a fun one: creepy spider lady who wants to eat you and gives you quite a difficult fight, which you can skip by...eating a doughnut that you bought at a bake sale earlier in the game.
I'm surprised none of the LittleBigPlanet 3rd bosses were included? Skulldozer, from LittleBigPlanet 1, is a giant machine with the head of a bull at the front that chases after your poor little Sackboy through a gothic mansion, only losing because it falls into a huge pit of purple gas after breaking the bridge it was too heavy to cross. Cornelius the Guard Turkey, from LittleBigPlanet 2, is a huge turkey infected with the head villain's evil powers, so it chases after you instead of protecting the city it lives in. The creature falls, not once, but twice, the first time setting it on fire and tricking you into thinking you won, followed by a second fall that crushes it with a drawbridge. Finally, in LittleBigPlanet 3, the Second Titan chases you while slugging along with chain tentacles which stop it from falling. You run away, using physics puzzles to slingshot Toggle (the character you're playing as) around the library the Second Titan lives in before crushing it with a massive stack of books. And yes, all three of these battles are won without your character shooting a single time 😊
I hope this includes The End from Metal Gear 3, one of my favorite Easter egg alternatives to a boss fight; even if you've shown it already Edit: I mean.. Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues DLC - the giant robo scorpion. You could fight it like a chump (and it's not an easy fight), or you could rush to the emergency shutdown and just turn it off.
You can avoid the final fight in Jade Empire, but it's not really winning when you surrender innit lol 🤣. Now there's a Bioware game many fans forgot In Mass Effect you don't have to fight Saren on the Citadel, although you will have to fight Sovereign's Saren puppet after that. Three years later you either use renegade trigger on illusive man or you get him to do it in Mass Effect 3 Letho in The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings, he can even show up in The Witcher 2 The Wild Hunt and help you. In The Witcher you either fight the Striga to kill it or just run circles around the crypt until sunrise, prefer the latter method and it's a bit silly that killing the Striga is the default world state when Witchers prefer to lift the curse when they can and lifting that particular curse is super easy barely an inconvenience. Sunrise even comes faster than usual Ooh, Flemeth in Dragon Age Orgins. If you don't fight her, perhaps she'll show up in Dragon Age 4 since Solas no doubt only attacked the fragment cast from the whole lol 🤣
Final fantasy 7. Gi Nattak. Cosmo Canyon where you're going through a cave of ghosts. Use an X-potion (which can be found earlier in the caves if you take the time to explore and open all the chests) on it or an Elixer or Megalixir. Basically any item that would heal the players for full health, and it instakills. Because Technically the healing items and spells use "holy magic" to heal you and holy magic does damage to the undead. or something like that. Either way.
No Gunther Hermann from the original Deus Ex? If you learn his "kill phrase" you can then blow this hulking German cyborg to pieces just by saying a few words.
In Resident Evil if having trouble getting enough distance from Lisa to push the statues get her to work for you. Stand near the statue and facing a direction to run (ie not towards statue or Lisa,) and skedaddle when expect her to strike so your character gets out of the way and Lisa smashes the statue. After all, why should you do all the work? Another boss can beat without firing a gun is Daniel Wales in Bioshock 2. Bring 2 security bots, electric flesh, and the security plasmid with you when enter passage on 2nd floor where will see Daniel Wales calling out to you before running off and leaving two electric spears in the doorway. What you need to do is hit him with the Security plasmid so your bots will chase him while running up the stairs and breaking the electric spears' lines (electric flesh makes you immune to the electrical damage,) so your bots don't run into them. Your bots will chase and shoot up Daniel so when you finally meet him in his room he'll either drop dead or just a hit or two from dying.
I think a better example from Metal Gear would be for The End (the old sniper) where you can just save, exit, and do something else for about a week. When you come back he will have died of old age.
How about Ancano in the final quest of the College of Winterhold plot in Skyrim? You can just hide behind a pillar while magic anomalies kill him for you
I expected both Minecraft bosses because guns aren’t in the games and using a bow isn’t technically shooting and they probabl Outsidexbox probably means gun shots.
I imagine there are several RPGies that allow such a thing. Two that comes to mind immediately: In the original "Fallout", if you developed your character "properly", you can actually convince the Master to blow himself up. Also in "Planescape: Torment", where the final boss is your own mortality, if you've managed to learn enough of your own past, you can actually retreive said mortality without ANY fight what-so-ever. Of interesting note: almost every boss in the original "Nightmare Creatures" is defeated without being directly attacked (in spite the game being of an action genre): with the Snowman you drop icicles on him by exploding the barrels... with Jose you snap the iron maiden on with by pulling levels and - I think - with Sewer Snake you drop a ceiling on him. Only Crowley himself is beaten by a straight-out fight.
