I think there's two ways to say "mischievous"...the first time people said it wasn't wrong, imho. The second correct pronunciation is the way Christina said it. February is also most commonly pronounced, feb-yoo-air-ee. I don't pronounce the first "R" in it for some reason. All the ladies did awesome though! I couldn't do the same in Spanish.
@Syiepherze
@Syiepherze 11 месяцев назад
Yeah "mischievous" and "February" are real weird. I'm a native speaker and I always pronounce "mischievous" as "MIS-che-vuhs" (because it's the adjective of "mischief"), but I sometimes hear Americans pronounce it as "mis-CHEE-vee-uhs" which throws me off. For "February", I think I used to pronounce it phonetically as a kid, but I eventually shifted to "FEB-yoo-air-ee" instead because it was easier lol

One of the girls was disappointed that many of the words were French. But, the thing is that around 40-45% of English words come directly from French. The reason for this is that millions of French people moved to the southern part of England Before England was established. Germanic peoples inhabited the north of England. Even today, the culture in northern England is clearly different from that of the south.

@EddieReischl
@EddieReischl 11 месяцев назад
I would say think of how a Russian pronounces "nyet", change it to "nyent" and put it with poi and say "poy nyent" for "poignant". English really does take words from everybody. "Masquerade" might be a good word for Spanish speakers, or follow up "regime" with "regimen", "sauerkraut", "Braunschweiger", "hemorrhage", "scenario", "limousine", "autumn", "reign", etc. "Reign" may be an example of why we have so many different spellings for words that sound the same in English. We have a lot of homonyms in English, and I never noticed that many when learning Spanish or German. "Reign" is concerning the period of time a monarch ruled, "rain" is precipitation falling from the sky, and "rein(s)" is what you use to drive a team of dogs or horses. It's no wonder people have trouble learning English, including most Americans.

I’ve recently come across this channel and I’ve been enjoying quite a lot, until I watched this video. I felt it was a bit patronising, and please take this as a constructive criticism. English pronunciation has so many varieties depending on the portion of the world you are, taking the American one as utterly correct implying that latin Americans are not able to speak it correctly (since the correct pronunciation in English requires years of mouth training, as some phonemes do not exist in Romance languages, for example) is not necessarily appropriate, in my book. I would love to see the other way around, Americans trying to pronounce words in Portuguese/Spanish. Other than that, great channel and great videos, truly entertaining! And shout out to my girl Ana 🇧🇷, who’s representing our country gracefully with her flawless eloquence!! ❤
