Years ago I did what you did and never regretted it!! I built by hand a 1000 square foot log home in the CLEAR WATER mountains in Idaho. It took me four summers to cut and form up the floor joist, wall logs rafters, purlins and close everything in and then start work on the inside!! NO plywood, particle board or sheet rock was used anywhere!! Even the interior walls were log!! YES lots of work period!! But I spent 12 years in that home and loved every minute of pure solitude!! 20 miles from the nearest town 12 miles to the nearest paved road with elk, dear, bear, moose everywhere!! Sometimes even looking in the windows!! DEEP snows in the winter, at times up to 4 feet deep (had to shovel out the windows to see outside!! WHY did I move away?? Well that's another story I'd like to forget, but I did, now in my late seventy's I'm looking for another type of adventure in my sailboat, but that's also another story!! The trick is don't stop living and chase your dreams while you can!! DON'T be like the guy whose lying somewhere taking his last breath thinking "why didn't I......!!!! DO IT NOW WHILE YOU ARE ABLE!!!...The Lord God be with you!!!

One of my favorite memories of being pregnant with my daughter was riding on a bus and having a small child sitting next to me, seeing the wonder and hearing the laughter from the child when he saw my stomach moving. Things like that are what stay with you.!

Jake, I have been watching you and Nicolle since you built the Yurt. Hearing you heartfelt concerns today about possibly leaving and loosing what you have built prompted my very first comment to you two. What you have there in your work is a home that any child would be well served to be raised in. What our society and it's culture offer is physically dangerous and spiritually toxic. There is risk in riding a bus, eating from grocery stores, or even waking up in urban life. Those in my opinion are the real threats to you and your family. What you are doing now is teaching others how to live well as to be good stewards of creations true gifts to man. Since the onset of your pregnancy I have thought what a great legacy you will hand your child, skills of independence, compassion, and intelligence. I believe no matter what you decide, your child will be blessed with knowledge and compassion for what life should be about. You two make me wish my nearly 67 years had been lived very differently. Hey Jake ; I been hunting rock scallops for years from the coast of california on scuba and one tool you need is just a flat metal prybar to loosen the scallop from the rock and you can also just take the meat and inner if you use a cake spatula ,so you just scrape the very top or bottom to loosen the white muscle from the shell from both sides and it is a perfect clean to not waste any bit at all , pulling it by force you loose pieces or chunks and the scallop meat gets some waste is the bad part; if taken the whole shell to clean at home then it is even easier to clean it with the $2 cake spatula (we call it the martha steward special ,they are long and flexible and contours to the inside of the shell to clean out the meat ) best tool to clean big scallops but many times if it does not fit thru the closed mouth then you need a good knife to brake the back black hinge first ,then scrape with the flexible spatula top and bottom to get all the meat... cheers and good luck with the baby , enjoying all your videos with your lovely girl !

I’ve had issues with this channel for a while, but have continued to watch just out of interest for their homesteading techniques. But there are many aspects of what they show that are disingenuous - ie where is the power coming from that charges their power tool batteries, cell phones, computers and camera batteries? The meagre amount of solar power they generate is not enough to power them, and seems to be there to power their bear/deer wildlife fence. Others have mentioned that they plug-in at a neighbour's house, which is not exactly off-grid. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have the use of a refrigerator there as well. I originally caught onto Jake through the Handeeman channel, which (though he rarely posts now) is a far better and more purposeful off-grid information source. Handeeman eventually did connect to the grid when it became the only way to get reliable internet for his and his wife’s channels. He’s on a FIT program to make use of his surplus energy generation. Jake often quotes various Chinese philosophies and ways of life to dictate his behaviours, but he cherry picks those that he talks about and doesn’t elaborate on those that don’t agree with his lifestyle. Jake is not alone in this - SE Asia is full of North American self-styled Shamen that portray themselves as enlightened while embracing only traditions and philosophies that suit them best. It is beyond hoaky, and a source of much derision in Asia. More recently they did an about-face on their veganism and started adding seafood to their diet. No explanation, after years of espousing the benefits both health and environmental of the vegan diet, suddenly they were smoking fish. For the vegans that were devoted to the channel this was a slap in the face. Others here have alluded to teaching institutes that have been announced but never happened, and more than once I’ve seen mention of a Karate school that people have enrolled in and received nothing. Jake is clearly a gifted athlete, and no doubt his surroundings in the Canadian rainforest have kept him away from his golf obsession. The BC West Coast is quite hostile to year-round living, even on-grid. The winter months are constant rain or snow, the spring and half the summer bring a maddening amount of bugs. Late summer and fall are the nicest time of year, but are also the time that the growing season starts to go dormant. I think that Jake set out to prove that one could grow a bounty of edible produce in adverse conditions here for the second time - the first being in Arizona. I admire his success in both places, though it does concern me that introducing non-native species may ultimately lead to some environmental issues down the road. It also concerns me how much the main channel made such liberal use of Nicolle’s backside to bring in the views. That kind of soft porn seemed to be incongruous with the goals of the channel. Later on, I found that they were further monetizing this view on OnlyFans. I think this is shabby. Plus this channel commits two other bothersome sins - recycling content in long videos with no narrative to maximize superChats, and also way too many commercials. They’ve worked hard and are doing extremely well. What the viewer sees is a couple making it “roughing it”. But a little research shows that they have amassed a small fortune putting out something that is at least somewhat a charade. There’s no arguing with their success, but I feel that if people knew the truth of it all they might turn their focus to other channels that are more forthright about what they are doing.
