I don't tow or haul loads. I didn't purchase my 2021 Ridgeline RTL-E as a work truck or off road vehicle. I enjoy the very comfortable SUV like feel, more than adequate power, and interior comfort. I occasionally do the HD/Lowes/garden center runs. I really like the in-bed trunk feature. So for me, the selling point was a reliable, tested V6 engine, that uses regular grade gas and the comfort/ride/safety of an SUV with the utility of a truck. Is it perfect? No. Would like a surround/overhead camera. I added a leveling kit and larger all terrain wheels and tires, but those were more macho cosmetic stuff. I do see plenty of these Ridgelines around, so they do seem to be selling. 2023 sales figures- Tacoma 234,748, Ridgeline 52,000, Colorado 45,562, Ranger 39,364. By the way a nice Tacoma can cost well over $50k. Turbo 4's? Let's see about long term reliability.
Just because all the other manufactures went with a turbo set up does not mean it's better or a "sign of the new times". Ecoboosts are trashing themselves as the turbos die out. The Tacoma engines are grenading themselves as the just seize up on the road. Chevy is, well.. it's Chevy/GMC, so that automatically means something is going to fail on that car pretty quickly. Either that or it will rust out in 5 years. That "outdated" J35 engines that you spoke of is naturally asperated and not a turbo which inherently makes it more reliable, but that 20 years of that engine you spoke means it's tried and true and guaranteed at least 300K miles with just basic maintenance. And if you look up the towing and payload capacities on those truck with the engines you speak of with the 4 cyl turbos, the Ridgeline outperforms them in payload and it on par with towing... unless you spend $10K more for their upgraded engines.
lol my local dealer has 29 of these on the lot and I’m pretty sure the new models are about to come out, these mfs just don’t sell fair price for the sport I would say is 35k any more not worth it just get a ranger
