There is a stage between 4 and 5. Which is lunacy. Laughing manically because you notice you're getting worse and worse, and how ridiculous the whole thing is.
Karol after gattuso in tales of Vesperia! Not that that was a 7 stager necessarily, but definitely a very solid 2 stages and "that thing didn't even put up a fight!"
But what about when stage 7 is just emptiness? You won, but you don't Feel like you won, that boss took something from you, and you will never get it back.
I postulate that that may actually be healthy. Soulsborne games never got big on me for that exact reason. There comes a point when the satisfaction you get from beating that boss isn't enough to cover the amount of strife you went through to get there.
Seem, after the rage quit, as a younger dude I used to find not playing the game for weeks, or even months, meant that when I came back, I would somehow be BETTER - 13 year old me defeats a boss 12 year old me could never touch. And 18 year old me, going back and playing for nostalgia games I'd already beaten years ago, would find tough boss battles not at all tough.
Yep I either beat it in one evening, like with Hyperlight drifter where I still have one of my longest boss attempts ever against the Hanged Man, or have to go back to it after weeks. And for Devil May Cry it was more retrying once a month for three months with the last ones. And that guy with the giant scissors that I beat in three seconds as a normal enemy but with the boss I forgot I could wall jump so his attacks became basically unavoidable. In my defense tough excluding when you have to run from him in the corridor I had a pretty easy time with Phantom at least. I haven't tried Dark Souls yet but I fear it will be like DmC but worse
In bloodborne I beat ludwig (the hardest boss) in one try my first playthrough, and in my second playthrough it took me over 50 tries. So yeah beginners luck
I'll add what you think after stage 7 right now. Ok now I need to save. Ok another save just incase the first one didn't work. One more time. Oh no didn't watch it that time. So just one more. Ok done.
if there is a map then it is time to bring it up every 5 seconds to make sure you aren't going in the wrong direction. Guess that would be the pre-boss stuff though
mr man i remember mij gameboy crashing during a save after i spent 6 weeks on a 7 stage'er en loosing All progres so i remember that feeling verry clearly
You forgot stage 0. The discovery. You walk inside and like your first time on the cappa deamon. They nuke you from orbit so fast you don't even understand what killed you.
@@k.rodrigosternergil4365 To ne fair though, they gave you Ample time for that VERY FIRST Quicktime with him. Assuming you're used to KH games, the endgame mechanics, and KH2's quicktime addage, it was literally all the others once the battle started AFTER his charge... That would be game. Lol
"bloody chop it off....." - Yes, I can fully relate to pointing at my own hand, threatening extreme violence if one of my fingers decides to go rogue and press the wrong button at the completely wrong time... You have been warned pinky......................................................
I just went through this with one of the God of War Valkyries. The stages went EXACTLY like this. When I beat her, I couldn’t even hold my controller because my arms where shaking. So Kratos just stood there, looking at the pile of loot as I took some deep breaths. Now, less than 24 hours later, I’m back at stage 5 for the next Valkyrie Love this video Rob!
Stage 8: that fear between beating the stage 7 boss and the next possible save point. Will you make it or will some trash mob put an end to you and make you start all over again.
Goddd I hate that, lol. When you just barely manage to win a tough boss fight and survive by the skin of your teeth only to be wiped out by a goddamn common mob.
I found it hilarious how one of the first clips was Cyborg Ninja from MGS. I literally went through those steps yesterday!! I've been replaying the MGS series in chronological order so the last 3D game I've played was MGSV which spoiled me on control. I've found it so hard to get back into the clunkier gameplay of MGS1. At least the MSX games had straight forward controls and aiming...
Still one of if not my favorite video from the channel. All of this is so true. Anytime I’m in the middle of a 7 stager I re-watch it to help cool down
I'm thinking about getting Dark Souls remastered when it comes out. I need advice from people who have completed it. Should I do it, or continue to have hair?
The stage 7 boss for me was in Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. I finally made it to the last Gannondorf fight and got stuck for weeks. Eventually I just stopped and looked around before entering the fight again and realized there was still a warp back to sky loft so I could get the elixirs I needed. Went back into the fight after the resupply and beat it without taking a single hit. One of the most satisfying moments I have had.
Jay Smith it’s possible. I’ve only recently started binge watching the Access videos and sometimes the auto play seems to do them in random order, so I kind of lost track...
Elliott Collier I was fortunate to be one of those who had a 4 year older step bro who indeed had ps1 Metal Gear Solid. Indeed I find it still in heart high amongst a select few elite games ever. Ty!
You forgot optional stage 8 - the burnout. When you've spent over a week dealing with the same boss and don't feel like going back into the game anytime soon.
This video is sooooo relatable, especially stage 7! Me and my friend Luke are quite terrible at Cuphead but we went through all these stages when fighting that moon lady on island 1 and we shouted so much when we won!
Well thing about Dark souls is the boss you found easy will be the boss someone else struggled hard on that's why I love the game. I can brag about beating Logarius and Nameless king and so on but then people tell me they beat Orphan of Kos after 3 tries compared to my 30+... yeah.
Indeed. I didn't know that anyone consider Gascoigne hard since I beat him on my first try but on other bosses I might struggle ridiculously just because a boss has an attack pattern that feels uncomfortable and weirdly timed.
I thought about this too!!!! God, I hate going on walkthroughs and reading comments from liars who claimed they past a really difficult stage in one go. Feck off with that, man lol.
I never do that exactly but if a Boss is fun to fight I tend to replay them often even after I beat them fore first time. Naturally the boss becomes really easy because I get more and more used to him. It makes me laugh when people say a certain boss is hard that I beat really easy now but had trouble the first time. I dont mean that disrespectful. Its just funny when people say Bosses like Sephiroth ore Lingering Will are hard. They are but not fore me any more.
Rob!! Theres a stage you forgot... i'll call it stage 6.5 It's when you did all the other stages BUT in the end you still get defeated and space out. And when you come to your senses you give up and cry in a corner
or 6.8: The boss was so tough that you are just satisfied you got through and hoping the game won't crash or freeze before it is saved, as you will never want to go through it again. Why I beat Sephiroth in KH on the PS2 but didn't even try in 1.5
Similarly when a button doesn't work as it's supposed to, like a failed jump or a Guitar Hero button when 100% a song, and you've done it enough times; you KNOW you pressed it but game... just didn't see it...
Yes, Pedro. You feel that defeat like way down in the pit of your stomach, almost like a loved one died or something, and it brings you to near depression.
Distinctly remember the very first time I went through these stages as a kid. Doom Gate in The Temple of the Ancients in FF7. Took me a few days to finally complete the cycle, but that fight will forever be burned into my memory.
Stages 3-5 were where I got stuck for about 3 days when I first played Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and first fought Thunderblight Ganon. I got so mad I actually looked online for tips on how to beat it, and it still took me three days to figure it out and actually get to stages 6 and 7. Then the optional stage 8: either telling people you finally beat this boss, or the mind-numbing emptiness that comes with a fight like this that takes something from you and never gives it back.
The rage sulk is actually quite effective. There have been numerous times where I'm playing a game and I'm stuck on a really hard part, and I quit playing it for a couple weeks/months, come back to it later, and beat it in the first couple tries.
One of the stages should involve "checking for tips or guide online" for modern games. This is usually part of Stage 4, as it's often rage-inducing to see how easily speed runners or pros breeze through the challenge that's brought you to your knees in agonizing futility.
Yes! Another fantastic Friday Feature with Rob! This one is amazing! I absolutely love it. The bosses that were 7 stagers for me was the Soul of Cinder in Dark Souls 3. Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls. The Moon Presence in Bloodborne. Lastly, Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2.
For me, I definitely went through all this on my recent replay of Bloodborne when fighting the penultimate boss in the chalice dungeons. The giant werewolf that shoots stuff out of its back and sprouts a giant grub out of its head in phase 2. The weird thing is that I don't remember having this much trouble with it when I first played the game. I'm positive that this boss was somehow overtuned in a later patch and never fixed. Not only does it have an insane amount of HP, it has several attacks that can one-shot you at 50 Vitality, which is just cruel. Imo, it's by far the hardest boss in any "Souls" game.
The funny thing was for me is that Ornstein and Smough wasn't that hard... and even even beat them first try as I had basically level farmed. The bit before it with those archers was a pain in the backside... they were so accurate and fast it was bye bye me off the edge.
It's weird. I don't know why I found Sephiroth hard since I can cheese him now. Lingering Will though was something more. I've beaten all Kingdom Hearts bosses so far and enjoy replaying the data Organization XIII members on critical.
The obvious one you missed - looking up tactics online! The "this is impossible, the game is cheating!" Stage - so you look online to prove to yourself that other people have actually conquered this nemesis (there's always that one player that even makes it look easy!) Then you study their tactics and attempt to apply those... or is it just me?
Ryan Tirrell I did that against Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy XIII-2 "WHY WON'T HIS HEALTH DECREASE??" *hours later * "HE JUST HEALED HIMSELF?? There must be a glitch...." *finds a video 30 seconds long defeating him*
TheTigerfan99 Yeah I try as hard as I can to do it on my own, but there's a point where I have to swallow my pride and look it up. It never lessens my enjoyment of a game though
Ryan Tirrell I had to do that to kill Caius in FFXIII-2.. This was the first battle.. You have to fight him like 3 times.. At least.. I still haven't beaten the game.. 😂😂
Don’t forget stage 6b where you get the boss down to it’s last bit of health, panic, try to rush the final blow, get killed and immediately go back to stage 4.
Aahh yes. Sepheroth from Kingdom Hearts was my stage 4. I fought him over and over again before rage quitting and declaring I was never touching the game again. I tried again the next morning before going to work and still couldn't do it. And I stewed on it all day at work determined to defeat him. As soon as I got home I loaded up the game and cleaned him up first go. Oh, the feeling of relief and accomplishment was indescribable.
Rob I love your Friday features. They bring me joy every week. In 2016 I was going through a tough time in my life and your Friday features helped me during that time. Great video as always :)
As a DS fan, this certainly hits home. I believe there is another step. There's a certain point where you become one with the game. Your focus is razor sharp and nothing distracts you. You are untouchable and indestructable.
Just experienced this yesterday with the Remnant Architect on the Voeld Outpost in Mass Effect Andromeda. Fortunately, I was able to avoid the rage quit and sleep on it phases but it still took a good two hours and several deaths. But I also couldn't feel the glory of stage 7 when I finally beat it; I wasn't elated, I was just EXHAUSTED. It took me a good chunk of those two hours to realize I had to muster the balls to get up close for its damn head to open up, and the fact that I had to mind the Level 2 Cold Hazard at the same time was excruciating. I hope you're burning in hell, Architect.
Radec on the hardest mode on killzone 2 was definitely a tough one. I was stuck on the damn idiot for weeks. But yeah, the pure elation of finally beating him was so amazing, I felt satisfied and accomplished.
There is this one optional phase you missed , say you couldn't complete the boss on day one and now there are a few hours before you can play again ( coz sleep or work ) and you keep planning, creating various simulations in your head , seeing hallucinations of the boss in real life ( happens to me )
Arth Banka I once drifted through an entire shift at work coming up with various battle strategies only to come home and my boyfriend say "It's my turn on the Playstation today..." WHAT.
I remember getting stuck on Ultimecia at the end of FF8. I rage quit and didn't touch it for about 5 years or so. A friend of mine reminded of it one day, so I popped it in and beat her on the first go. I was excited and ashamed it took so long.
I watch and like PSA videos all the time but felt compelled to leave a message this time as this rang particularly true for me but it wasn't a boss battle. I racked my brain for a little while and realised it was a trophy... Brutality 101 on Batman Arkham Knight. After hammering the game for hours I realised I wasn't getting this trophy easily. I probably revisited the game twice a week between other games as it was potentially going to be one of my first platinum's and I WANTED IT! Then 364 days later at 00.14am... Let's just say both my girlfriend and 5 year old son ended up awake!! I know it wasn't a boss but the 7 stages were identical, just over a REALLY long period of time. I enjoyed the game, so much so that I immediately uninstalled it! A year is a really long time! Thanks very much Playstation Access, I love all your videos and remain a loyal subscriber, not only to the channel, but to you guys. Please keep up the excellent work! Username is maccrone if you want to check the coincidental date between first and last trophy!
This is actually very accurate. Went through all of these 3 times in dark souls 3. First and stupidly at the curse rotted Greatwood then not until the twin Princes fight. It unsurprisingly occurred most vividly in my battle with the nameless king. So satisfying to overcome...
Yea Rob def never made it to the princes or nameless king in dark souls but I def know what you mean about going through this on nameless king boss fight he's a 7 stager for sure if you solo
I've only gone through all 3 stages once, and that was when I played Dark Souls 2 for the first time and going against the Smelter Demon. I was offline because I didn't have a PSN account and I didn't know that summoning Lucatiel would make the boss harder at the time.
Thanks Rob! All of these stages applied for me fighting against Martyr Logarius. After ten deaths and tons of frustration, it took plenty of patience, and a whole lot of perserverance, but in the end, I prevailed.
I've actually beaten three bosses on my first try so far; with a strength build by the way, and one of them was Father Gascoigne. Thanks to the tiny music box and molotov cocktails, I was lucky enough to beat him.
I can't remember the game, but there was a specific Stage 7 I remember on an emotional level. See, I didn't Rage Quit so much as Rage Continued for an hour. It was at that point that I realized that my skills had deteriorated in my anger, and I decided to get some sleep and try again in the morning. Here is where it gets weird. I have breakfast and try the boss again, only to beat him in the first go. And not a nail-biting first go, either. It felt so easy that "Elation" was replaced with a numb shock. *THIS* was the fight that had stonewalled me for x number of hours? I bring this up for one specific reason: It was also one of the few times I went through all 7 stages, however mutated. Usually it hits the Rage Quit stage, and I put off coming back for so long that I have to start over just to figure out the controls again. This is followed by apprehension for whatever made me quit to begin with, only to realize that I was playing new content and I must have beaten the problem area without noticing.
I thought I was the only one this happened to. Got so angry I kept being beaten getting worse and worse. gave it up and went to sleep. Came back after work the following day. Beat the boss in my first attempt. NUMB SHOCK!!
Does anyone else enter a sort of Zen state after you reach a certain point of rage? It's like you lose the ability to get angrier and everything you do is done with razor-sharp focus. Every enemy attack feels like it is in slow motion and your dodges become better timed as you slowly whittle away its health and finally kill it, taking a deep breath in satisfaction knowing that you are *better* than that boss.
edmg7 those two are scary but I hope for the best. They remind me of Sephiroth from Kingdom hearts, take a break, get stronger, focus and trample them.
Stage 7 after defeating Sephiroth in KH1 made me scream so loud I almost gave my grandmother a heart attack. I made sure to let her know I was just playing a game when the time came to beat Seph in KH2 haha.
Man, you got the stages completely right! First memory of this was end of Resident Evil 2 Tyrant fight with Claire. Tried for hours one summer evening and couldn't do it. Went to bed and came back the next morning and completed it first try! It was an amazing feeling beating him after so many failed attempts.
I've never rage quit, but I do the sleep on it all the time (especially if I can't figure out how to win). Then my nephew shows me up by going through the game 20x faster than I do.
Stage 8 V1 - save 5 times and continue elation until next boss wave arrives Stage 8 V2 - forget to save / power cut / mum turns off console due to elation screaming and then enter Stage 9... Stage 9 - go full Kefka and destroy EVERYTHING TWICE
Ornstien and Smough, I encountered them before i discovered grinding. Rage quit for about 6 months... The started grinding over the same part of Dark Souls until the enemies stopped respawing and there was nothing left to do but face those two again. When I finally reached stage 7 I felt I had evolved into a new species of gamer and have since not been able to get enough of Souls games and bloodbourne... Tough bosses are now welcomed with a reminder of that memory. Bring it on I think!
i remember that one time i was in stage 4 with dragon ball z budukai tenkaichi 3 on ps 2 and i taped away the disk in the box and threw it in the junk for 2 years....... and then i casually picked it up and defeated everybody without stopping.....and then i was like "REVENGE"!!
Stage 8: when you defeat Slave Knight Gale and you realise there are no more Dark Souls bosses to fight. You've finished one of the best trilogies you've ever played through and in a moment of what should be pure joy and victory, you just feel sad and alone.
Thank you Rob, I am currently in stage 4 in Dark Souls 3 about two separate parts (and their not bosses) and you just made me feel better about them as I've quit for 3 days now, I now know about the 7 stages!
I know this might seem a bit dated but I bought DOOM (2016) two years ago and decided to start the game on "hurt me plenty" When I got to the spider demon I went through every stage of this process and everything Rob said was true even the last bit when I finally beat it (which was today believe it or not) I was so proud of myself because i'm only a casual gamer (I don't have any platinum's) and achieving something like this is really big for me and means a lot. Also keep up the good work guys.
