Hey Psi, Just wanted to reach out to show my appreciation for the educational videos that y’all put out on RU-vid. In late 2020, I was going through quite a lot in my life which included contemplating ending my 2 year long relationship with my now ex-fiancé. Through your videos, I learned a lot about myself and the relationship that I had the misfortune of being wrapped up in. The concepts and worrying signs taught in your videos pointed out the red flags that I had either ignored or were lead to believe weren’t issues at all. It is honestly eerie when y’all describe some of these concepts and illnesses. It is like you are reading off a story or script of my life and trauma. I learned that I was being gaslighted, emotionally abused, overbearingly controlled, and being actively traumatized by a narcissist, and that I, myself, was conducting codependent behavior. I never would have ever thought that I would ever be caught up in a toxic relationship and be the abused. And your videos gave legitimacy and credence to my suspicions of being in-fact abused and the courage to finally push me to breaking ties for my own well-being. And I love the care put into the videos to even point out that abusers, even narcissistic ones with the likes of my ex, might not even know they are exhibiting abusive behavior or do these things maliciously. But you also pointed out that their ignorance does not give them an excuse to partake in these acts. It has helped me heal a lot along with the immense support of the friends and family I had neglected while being in that very bad situation. I am blessed in that regard. And I do understand that seeking professional help will probably be the best next move. I am not actively doing so, but it has now been put on my radar to pursue when my current circumstances can accommodate that. Again. Thank you SO MUCH! Words really cannot begin to describe how much I appreciate learning about my own shortcomings. I honestly only hope that my ex can find these videos and seek help for herself. Regards, A fan

@@bluehairedmiku1402 Well, I saw a good analogy for that. Say, like, 1 person in every 10 000 is toxic, and there are 20 000 000 people. Its still a small percentage that is toxic, but its a lot of people when you look at it. Yup. Experienced some of this in my (now behind me) marriage. The sad thing is that they don’t see that they are doing this to you. So until you completely sever all ties (If possible) they will always treat you this way which says everything about them.

I just started shaking my head. It's yes yes and yes. I went with a fella that was all about him. He even had the nerve when I did mention something about myself to tell me I talked about myself all the time. I don't know how I could have talked about myself all the time because I couldn't get a word in edgewise with all his bragging and talking about himself. This video is completely validating. I used to have a friend who has like this. Yet my mom found out and made me not be friends with them. It helped so much, They used to tell me ways to die and yet when i was sad they’d say “You’re amazing!!” It’s hard. Im glad i left them.

I am currently in an abusive relationship, working too get out. I know what it’s like to be told on a daily basis how useless you are, how none will ever want my ass, how I am a loser, and because I am now disabled and can’t walk well or work he uses that against me. For example, I was so sick yesterday I couldn’t even get out of bed, he told me too take it easy and after work he would run too get what I need. He came home and because I said something in what he said was “a sarcastic tone of voice, that he wasn’t going too the store”. So advance till this morning, as sick as I am, i get up make his coffee and go to make his lunch, there’s no bread, and that’s a problem,cause he literally only wants sandwiches for his lunch. But he was supposed to go to the store for me the evening before and bread was on that list. But ofc when I tell him he can’t have sandwiches for lunch 💥 💥 yup he lost it, even though it’s his fault. So before he just left for work, and mins you it’s 7 am here, he screamed and yelled and berated me for 30 mins before he just left. So now my day is ruined cause it started ok but he took that away as usual.
Virtually impossible not to find at least one of these traits in a person. We are all toxic in some way... just steer clear of ones that exhibit more than 2
i personally am starting to recognize that i tend to act this way towards my partner without realizing it and i'm starting my process of working on it. i feel so terrible about the fact that i've been doing these things and i will happily work on my ability as person

These are all my wife's go to tactics and after years of living with her I started doing them back to her, to show her how it felt and WHOA BOY did that get me beaten. I can take a lot of physical abuse, so I just let her for years. When I finally started curling into a ball, I still got beat. Tried to pretend to be asleep? Still got beat. When she knew I was definitely sleeping, she'd punch me in the kidneys or sometimes my head. I'd wake up and she'd be all still but not snoring so I knew. She got help and started to get much better. Then she stopped taking the meds, switched doctors and therapists and now it's worse than it's ever been with everything but the beatings. After her 5th DV she finally stopped hitting me while awake. In fact she went 2 years without threatening my life. That ended last night when she threatened my life again. I just do not know what to do. I don't even know where to start. We have a 9 year old daughter. I am frightened for her.
Was married to a covert narc, things didn't go well, we went to a marriage counselor who gave me the advice to open up with my vulnerabilities. I did, not yet knowing what narcissism is, and still believing in the gaslit reality I was told. (Even assumed at some point I might have Alzheimer's due to all the "wrong" or "missing" memories I had. But that's another story.) Basically immediately that was weaponised, attacks now specifically targeted my traumas. In hindsight that's when I started realising that something isn't right here. So actually it was a good advise in the end, although just because it woke up my ability to rise and resist. I lowered my shield, giving the narc the ability to hurt, and hurt they did, revealing their true nature. Ffwd: narc is gone, karma hit them hard, which I pity but can't help, and won't try to. The smear campaign quickly decluttered my circle of (mostly false) friends, which is good as I'm an introvert. All in all a whole new level of peace and freedom. Thanks, narc! I needed that lesson.
The relationship between my 'best friend' and I is also toxic. She gets angry at me for asking something to her where when she asks it an answer on demands, blames me for saying that I feel left out when she always stands a meter away from me with her other friends, and when I try talking to them and doing stuff with them they ignore me. I've tried to tel her that I don't want to be her friend anymore, and maybe because I tried to say it in the most subtle way she didn't understood me. We were still in school so she suggested that we'd call when it was done. During that call she just wanted to find a solution, what wasn't my goal. Sinds I told her that her mother also won't let us meet each other. Sorry for the long comment, but I feel relieved now. Thanks for reading if you did 😊
Thank you for these outstanding videos! I'm in the midst of severing a business relationship w someone who is furious that I expressed displeasure w THEIR highly offensive, humiliating & inappropriate comments in a class setting. We have to interact for 6 more weeks. For those who pray, sure would appreciate some prayers. Shaking as I type this. I was to respond properly & not react to the intimidation. I do sometimes the 3. but mostly because I am genuinely surprised. Like "I didnt know you could do that" and mostly followed by a compliment like "thats cool" or if they did something I'd only expect from good players "you're pretty good at this/smart".

5, 6, 7 relates to the one i was in for 2.5 years.. Psych2Go together with other many motivational talks and binural music has helped me make a decision to cut it off totally recently as i was slowly loosing myself both mentally and emotionally. Number 6. Freaking number 6 is a problem lately. Whenever I hear someone out I listen. Sometimes I don't offer advice depending on if they just want to be heard, but naturally, I'll give my support, but I'll always listen regardless. However, whenever I bring up the slightest grievance they shift it to their problems and utterly disregard mine. I get it. We all have problems. It doesn't matter whose problems are bigger. It's about taking the time to listen. It's about turned-based support. Another gripe is when they give unwanted advice, which ends up sounding condescending. "Well, maybe you should..." "It's because..." Family, coworkers, and friends are losing sight of their character and the toxicity is prolonging these situations. Repression isn't good.
For two years I was the homecare provider for a woman who routinely chastised and scolded me like I was in grade school, and it was always over nothing. She'd insult me with comments like "How could you have lived this long without knowing..." whatever; or "You're one of the least inquisitive people I've known..." like I was too dull minded to be curious about anything or want to learn anything. I could go on and on with anecdote after anecdote but I'll just leave it there. Long story short, it got to be too much so I quit this past November, and was simultaneously fired, for having had the audacity to stand up to this person's bullshit. My husband and I now are blissfully retired, and I don't have to take crap like this from anyone anymore. Oh happy, happy day!

All I can say is NARCISSISSSSSSSSSST. That video is 100000% everythingggg that I have gone through that most people will never understand as to how it’s done, how they sneak it in on you and then destroy you. The gaslighting will have your brain in recovery for years! 😞🤕 🩹
My dad uses the word gaslighting against me and the rest of my family whenever we just barley disagree with him or try to make an opposing point. It has since made me absolutely despise the word
Left my first relationship of 9 months bcz of all these. I was so depressed.. Anxiety attacks,lost weight... Was humiliated and felt shame.. He made me feel like it was my fault and that's why he never apologized unless I did it first bcz he said I made him hurt me. Also there are 2 people male adults at work who do most of these things.. It hurts.... They critizise and compare me constantly with other girls..I am made to feel like I'm not good enough like the other girls around town. It's a small town so everyone knows everyone..Im going to fight these two people for my peace .. They belittle and hurt me emotionally and because they are adult males... Married men... I don't know how to address this issue yet.. but I will soon..

1:34 I've learned to combat this by disengaging arguments with someone behaving like this. The goal is to maintain a venner of power, or just put you down. This relies on verbal attacks in argument form. But arguments are like tennis; they cannot volley something at you if you just catch the ball and hold it; they will get mad for a second, but without getting what they want, they'll leave quicker than if a full blown argument was had.
The term “Mansplaining” is malicious towards only men who are condescending. Women are apparently free to be condescending, hence a lack of “femsplaining” used as a word.
Never heard of that. I guess I femexplain when I am being gaslit by legal advocates or law enforcement, about the abuse and violations happening to me. I don't think I've ever femspalined- I'd have to look up the term. But I believe you.

Toxic behaviors are those destructive things which we do, or allow, that rob us of being truly happy. We all deserve to be happy, but if you’re not truly happy, you’re unlikely to be healthy mentally, emotionally and even physically.
I don't think anyone enjoys staying in a toxic relationship, it's more of the fact that there's very little you can do to get out of it. Setting boundaries? A narcissist fails to realize what they're doing wrong. The majority of people, the authorities and strangers gaslight you and are too scared to confront the abuser themself. The abuser can threaten to kill you, financially abuse you, and won't allow you to leave them. People think leaving an abuser is so simple and yet do not consider these things.
I have a friend who every time I voice my opinion they make fun of me and shouts down my opinion and make me apologize, I would always be giving them homework and they never listened when I needed someone to talk to. The more I think about it the more I think: *This person makes me unhappy*
