Hang on, Ellen didn't make a "it's a bit of a Thor point" joke in the Thor game section. Where is Ellen and what have you done with her? Jane I'm looking at you!👀
I actually liked the Affleck movie overall. Relatively decent portrayal of quite a few characters. I did particularly enjoy kingpin and bullseye. Cant have a good story without good villains!
Man hearing Ellen’s suggestions for a Daredevil game that incorporates not only his blind fighting escapades but also his law career made me so excited, and all the more disappointed considering if likely would never happen.
Sorry that still sounds like Phoenix Wright, you may call that action but I calll that as fun as listening to Benstein giving a time share speech, wow...no offense sounds boring Since most the time is dedicated to searching law books for relating precedence in a law career, now thats extra boring
@@jamesmeppler6375 I- I was making a, you might have heard of this, joke I know, it can be hard to understand but sometimes people aren’t asking for your opinion but are simply making a joke
Hey look! That catwoman game has the running animation of me going up the stairs as a child. Edit: "The rude lube of Dr. Megaman" and various other names had me snickering more than it should.
Played the Masks ttrpg with some people from the outsidefanstra discord at the weekend, and I was legitimately gutted I couldn't figure out how to get plant nutrition boy to work in the system.
@@outsidextra Same - Crystal Dynamics' work on tomb raider was fantastic, i'm still salty they were put on avongers instead of shadow of the tomb raider :(
I beat that game it wasn't too difficult I think as soon as I realized it wasn't actually Selena Kyle I just stopped comparing it to the DC universe I mean I know DC was part of the production but by the time they were done with the movie and everything there really was no comparing it and I think a lot of the hate yes it was a bad movie but I think a lot of the hate comes from the idea of what it could have been instead of what it was
she was a major part of the main team during the split team era and has bern their legal advisor since her creation…even when not out front, she has been one of them she’s like Spider-Man, a member but not a frequent member
It's like putting deadpool in an xmen game? She-hulk been an understudy member of FF? You're not a bright individual are you. These are "scripted" stories made & printed in a comic book to make kids buy 'em for monetary gain. Kids are entertained & then move on with their lifes as should u. Oohh wait.....ur not a bright individual so by all means carry on.
Small nitpick: The Halle Berry "Catwoman" wasn't Selina Kyle - her name in the movie (and, I'd assume, the tie-in game) was Patience Phillips So Selina and her reputation were spared the horror of being associated with that movie/game.
Not really, because details like those don't matter to the broader public. They just see that the title is "Catwoman" and will think the movie is about THE Catwoman.
She-Hulk was a member of the Fantastic 4 for a bit after Thing lost his powers. So her being in a FF game still makes sense. Game still sucks though...
"Also, She-Hulk is there, for some reason." Shulkie's there because she threatened to tear up all the developers comics if they didn't let her in. Though if they wanted an accurate depiction of her, they should have let her get halfway through the game before getting unceremoniously cancelled. Look, being a She-Hulk fan is hard, just let her have this.
She has also actually been a member of the team before, and if the games from the 90s it may well have come out while she and not Ben was in the books,
At least X-Men Origins: Wolverine is way better than its movie counterpart. And then there's the tie-ins for the first two Spider-Mam movies by Sam Raimi, The Punisher 2004, and Batman Begins.
One of the worst movie games I’ve played ever was wreck-it Ralph. You literally had dozens of game genres in the movie to base it off of. But instead we get a game that looks like it was made in 30 minutes.
Yeah, it's almost like hiring some no-name developer, paying them a piss poor budget, and giving them less then a year to make a game, based on a movie that's not even out yet, is a bed idea
Truly, being punched in the head repeatedly by a crab person is Aquaman's most rousing performance/appearance to date. I would absolutely watch a stand-alone Aquaman film that was just ~100 minutes of the King of Atlantis being punched in the head by crab people.
Luke: don't worry about the spoilers, you won't want to play these games anyway. Me: Well Luke you don't know that do you? Also me: watches this video and comes to the conclusion that I don't want to play any of these games. Touche Luke.
"Which he could lose if he didn't pick them back up." I hated this mechanic as a kid, but now that I live on my own, I realize I crawled to pick up vibranium shields so I could walk to pick up mugs of cold tea.
I had to pause the video at this point (as I am an artist myself) and yelled at my TV "ARTISTS ARE REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!" My son asked me if I needed a hug. ... I said yes.
@@themayhemofmadness7038 I very much support artists and see them as valuable, so please take no offence. It's just that situation just screams at me with the "why should we hire a genuine artist when my art friend cn do that for me" situation. :D Artists are the ones quite vulnerable to this type of "abuse" from family and friends. And let's be honest, do we believe that specific "artist friend" got properly payed? :D
@@alhena11 Believe me, I agree. I take absolutely NO offense. Too often I have had people come to me and ask me to do work for them without pay and/or credit. It’s like some people think artists don’t need to be paid because, what?, we don’t need to eat? We don’t need to pay rent? What’s worse is that a lot of the people who wanted me to do work for them for free, were the same people that were telling me I need to charge higher rates for my work (I charged $10-15 an hour plus supplies), because I was so skilled. They just didn’t want me charging THEM. 😂 So when I saw your comment it lifted my spirits. It was like “YES! Someone UNDERSTANDS!!!!”
Couldn’t help but laugh at those brutally slow fades between the Aquaman cutscene panels Just imagining that poor exhausted trumpet player filling the dead air Or water I guess
Around that time it seemed like every action/hero movie had a tie-in game. Technically Catwoman had TWO. From reviews it seems the Game Boy Advance version was marginally less terrible. - E
This was before the time of micro transactions. The only way to make money with the same minimal effort was to flood the market with games someone might pick up. Any excuse to make a 'game' was used.
@@indivian164 ah yes, the days of "shovel ware". a lot of it was more like reskins than proper games. IE the studio had a game enigine and they used it to tell a different story about a different character.
Marvel's Avengers isn't even a bad game. Sure, it can get repetitive, but you can say that for literally every game in existence. But it's still fun to play.
Well, if the avengers game didn't suck so badly, and be worse than the 2011 Thor movie tie-in game that had both Chris Hemsworth AND Tom Hiddleston, maybe she wouldn't have had to have been harsh on a s**t game?
Yeah, this Universe's Selina Kyle was "Patience Phillips" to try justify the weird different cat-reincarnation origin story, rather than her just being a cool robber who can do backflips with a whip. WHYYYY, HOLLYWOOD???
X2: Wolverines Revenge. Where Wolverine tippy toed around killing guards, couldn't heal if his claws were out, and basically found his way around by sniffing enemies farts.
I'm not going to blame voice actors for accepting a paycheck. Work is work, and everyone's gotta eat🤷🏼♀️ Christopher Lee famously wasn't picky about the movie roles he accepted, just the stupidity of the lines he was willing to articulate.
I dont mean to nitpick, but the catwoman in the comics is named Selina Kyle. The catwoman in the horrible movie and game is named Patience Philips for some reason. I guess that's a distinction they made to not get anyones hopes up about her being an interesting character
Honestly, I think that movie probably started life as a decent superpower-revenge movie, and then someone realized that there was some cat-tieins and with some mangling they could use a much more famous name as the main character. So they mangled away and released what we got, disrespecting both the movie and Catwoman at the same time.
@@DanStaal My guess is they changed the name after they realized they had a plot about what was a different character than Selina Kyle. IE it's Catwoman... in name only. BUT... when you label the movie "Catwoman"... people want Selina Kyle. It might have been better received if it wasn't called Catwoman. :/
@@DanStaal hmmm... I'm pretty sure the greenlight was after it became Catwoman though. It seems unlikely that DC just agreed to let someone use the name after filming started. Nah. Maybe the script got rewritten to add the Catwoman name, but the movie didn't get a greenlight until AFTER that. It does seem possible that the script idea got written and re-written several times before it was filmed thouogh.
I know you were sort of making a joke when you were saying Captain America and Thor got popular when played by handsome, charismatic actors, but to take it seriously for a second, it's not just that. There needs to be good character design and a good story for them to be in for them to finally take off. Just look at Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds couldn't carry that all alone with neither of those things, but stick him in Deadpool with some fun writing and a good take on the character, and bam, super popular. Marvel has just managed to finally get the formula right and focus on making a fun movie first and a comic book movie second. Now I just wish someone would come along and do the same thing for video game movies.
The phrase "looking like if the girl from the Ring decided to become a dominatrix" amused me far too much. The reason they included She-hulk in that F4 game is because she was part of the team when the Thing was either depowered or comic-dead (I can't remember which)
Calling that version of Catwoman "Selina" (three times) is a disservice to the character. Of Selina Kyle, not Patience. Hmm...wasn't there a bad Green Lantern game based off the Ryan Reynolds movie?
@@CassBlackflame Really? That's great! Deadpool got rid of both of those? Can he also get us a GOOD Fantastic Four movie? And did he fix Blade: Trinity? I mean, I know Ryan Reynolds wasn't that good in that movie, but it's not his fault the movie wasn't as good as the previous Blade movies, and plus, Ryan Reynolds is an awesome person.
@@CassBlackflame Good idea. I'll be sure to ask Ryan Reynolds about it, and see if he can get Deadpool to ask Hannibal King about it, and see if he knows anything about it, and see if either King or Deadpool can find Hal Jordan and ask if HE knows about it. And if not, hey, at least we tried, you know? And, Ryan Reynolds will never NOT be awesome. Dude's a legend.
Ellen, it’s important that I inform you that recently Outside Xbox did a video on games that didn’t get a sequel, and Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning was strangely left out.
The she hulk addition does make some sense, as she's been heavily affilated with the Fantastic Four, including a period where she replaced the Thing on the team, I believe after the first Secret Wars.
yeah there was at one time a Fantastic Four run with a fully different team. Part of me wants to say Spider-man(Mr. Fantastic), She-Hulk(Thing), Storm(Invisible Woman), and Ghost Rider(human torch).
Ellen "Matt Murdock would be way more careful about not revealling his abilities in his civilian garb" Matt Murdock is the worst at keeping his secret xD
This video is the equivalent of that one John Mulaney joke: I wasn’t old enough to review these videos on RU-vid. RU-vid was even more for cat videos than it is now, G4 was a tv channel, and the term “viral video” was used extremely loosely.
Only two of the games on this list I heard of, the others are just...wow. 3: I share the same confusion in how one manages to mess up a tie-in game this many years later coming off one of the most overwhelmingly popular depictions of Thor in recent times. While I highly doubt that voice in any way was Chris Hemsworth reading lines THAT badly, I find myself trying to figure out if Tom Hiddleston WAS the one held at gunpoint doing Loki's lines or was that someone doing their impression of Tom Hiddleston WHILE doing Loki's lines at gunpoint. Alot to ask if its the latter. 4: This I had no idea even existed and well...now I wish it stayed that way. It looks as if it plays like a terribly adapted Iguana west Wrestling game and it somehow manages to make pulling a guy's arm off look boring and tame even in that era (Meanwhile, a certain fighting game franchise made that look shocking in 2D a few years earlier) 5: Good god, the name alone is just...why? As for the game itself, a luckluster depiction of the source material AND useless puzzles in the middle of fighting AND a Time Limit? Its like they wanted to make a godawful game regardless of what system it was on (Although I think the ZX Spectrum players got the worst end of the tainted shaft) 6: Is it bad that I like the sax-heavy song in Mr Fantastic's intro? Its literally the only thing pleasing audibly or otherwise in this...game (Abit like the soundtrack in that one Sonic game. Can you feel the sunshine?) 7: *Sigh* This falls right in that same category of "I don't know what's worse" as the Catwoman Movie and Tie-in game. Both are terrible, questionable, barely resemble the source material and are only good if all you wanted to see was a celebrity in leather (Although in that last bit, the Movie is by far the better alternative with both so the game is worse).
She-Hulk's presumably in the FF game because she was a stand-in for the Thing for a while. Although if that's their reasoning, they probably should have included Ghost Rider and Wolverine as well...
I actually enjoyed "Spawn: Demon's Hand" for Dreamcast... but I'm also one of the four people on the planet to have liked "Rise of the Imperfects", so pay no attention to me 😅
Rise had some pretty cool villains, and the idea of engineering perfect counters to heroes and villains was neat, gameplay was a bit of a mess of course, but also on the bright side they actually made sure to job out the actual first hero who would die if he ever actually tried to take on a super villain and killed off Punisher in the intro unlike Hulk and Cap who were captured,
Anyone else have a category of “favorite bad movies”? Like you know that the movie is objectively bad, but you can’t help but enjoy them? Daredevil and Electra are both on that list for me.
@@VulpesObscura Yeah, really loved the first one despite its reputation. It had deadly lasers, zombies and Michelle Rodriguez so it's instantly a winner for me.
@@user-wj6eq1cx7x They're really good, fun action romps that give me an amazing excuse to stare at Milla Jovovich kicking butt for 90 minutes at a time. I also really enjoy the first Silent Hill film, although the sequel objectively is just bad.
I am glad y'all opted to skip Superman64. We all know how terrible that game was. Also, I was ready to fight if you mentioned Silver Surfer on the NES. I loved that game as a kid! Well, the 30 seconds of each level I was able to get through before getting a game over, that is.
My biggest concern here isn't how bad those games were, but that Ellen's description of what a Daredevil game COULD be sounds impossibly awesome and something I would be all for. Which means they'll never do it.
The Captain America movie from 1990 was really bad, worse than the Punisher from 1989, did they ever have a Thor film before MCU did it. Fantastic Four has yet to get a decent movie lol 😝 I couldn't even play Resident Evil because of those tank controls, Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem is my Resident Evil, so I'm glad I didn't play this spawn game. Constantly dying with tank controls, guess that's why I'm more forgiving toward the Resident Evil movies with Milla Jovovich. The Director's Cut of Daredevil is a vast improvement, maybe not the best adaption, but definitely the version that should be judged (people rarely seem to go by the director's cut). As a huge Alias fan I just love Jen Garner, but even the Director's Cut of Elektra wasn't good (totally don't blame Jen on that though, actors just doing what the director tells them innit). Never played the Daredevil game, but definitely looks bad. I had a Superman game on the Nes, he rode the subway and too much damage (that he shouldn't be taking unless it's kryptonite) puts him in his Clark Kent costume (Superman isn't the disguise here, Kill Bill does a great job explaining that).
To be fair, She-Hulk has been a recurring member of the FF, and when they occasionally change to be the Fantastic Five or something of the like, she's often the added member. Honestly, I hadn't known of this game, and now I kinda want to play it. I also kinda want to go back and play the GBA FF game I had that tied into the 04 or whenever movie. Y'know, the halfway decent one.
You’re lucky the Batman Arkham series and both Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales are the only recent must plays for comic book fans/gamers. Guardians Of The Galaxy is far better than Avengers for it’s story but still not quite up there with Arkham or either Spider-Man
yeah, ellen clearly has a blast playing demon's souls, i mean look at her smiling from ear to ear ^^ also: daredevil was blinded by chemical waste. nothing radioactive in his origin story.... unless she-hulk was in that game too, didn't check.
The concept of the spawn game was good I like the way that combat works (in theory) spinning around from a 3d exploration game to a 2d fighting game but the execution was atrocious
13:54 Weirdly, even after having witnessed all of the terrible games listed, the thing that hurt to watch the most was being reminded that Marvel: Avengers Alliance is now defunct and cannot be played. At least it will forever live on in people all over the internet using its sprites when looking for a visual representation of Marvel characters.
Lego super hero games are among the best hero games of all time. We should just let them make every hero game from now on. They might end up a little goofy, but at least they'll be fun.
It's been fairly common for other heroes to fill in when members of the Fantastic Four are laid up. Truth told I kinda like the idea of a Fantastic Four game with the expanded roster of reserve members as playable characters.
