There’s a mocking bird where I live that must have over heard someone posting something on twitter, as it now repeats that sound very loudly all the time. I’d say that’s a much scarier thing
First time i heard a Reaper roar i parked my seamoth on the side of the Aurora turned off the lights and waited till morning. Then while still hearing the roar i booked it back to the lifepod thinking i was safe i turned around to look. I was grabbed after being followed all the way to the safe shallows i nearly pissed myself
I don't find them that threatening. But that's mainly because I just stay as far out of their way as possible until I get the Cyclops. By which point they're more of a nuisance than a threat.

For me it’s the robot girl scream from Soma. No other sound has ever sent chills down my spine and actually made me close to running away from the source of the noise.
Every sound from Soma could fill an entire video. I can't handle the boom of the flesher, especially when it finds you and the booms get closer and faster as it teleports.
I wouldn't consider the Otherworld quite as threatening as monsters in the Otherworld, or the monsters in the fog world for that matter. The only difference between the two worlds, in my experience, is colour palette.
I was home alone once and woke up to the sound of a severe storm warning siren going off a couple years ago and PANICKED for about the first minute I was awake. Not because of the bad weather, but the siren itself and my brain's automatic association of that sound to Silent Hill.

The screech of the big sisters in BioShock 2 always set me on edge, especially when I wasn't keeping track of how many little sisters were in a level and couldn't find a vending machine to spend every last dollar on ammo beforehand
Skyrim Your wandering around in some random ancient ruin. You hear these loud footsteps coming closer from behind. You instinctively turn around. A draugr is right at your face, going "ULGH!" right as you see it, pretty much jumpscaring you.
You're on very thin ice Oxtra. Bloody hell, whose bright idea was it to include Regenerator breathing in first 20 seconds of the video. I started to look around, and get scared by my chihuahua. I screamed, with a very "manly", but very loud scream and scared her. Now my heart is racing, and my dog is hiding.
I actually use that to help understand clinical anxiety. Imagine hearing that constantly and never being able to find the enemy triggering it. That's it right there.
I feel like this should have been mentioned already, but seriously: Creepers. You take the right kind of gamer, especialy someone who's played ALOT, and have that sizzling sound effect right on the edge of their hearing and you have a scared gamer every time.
AGREED. My general lack of self-awareness in video games meant that I usually heard it coming from behind me, and by the time I turned around to freak out, the bloody thing had already exploded.

I second this motion. Lucky during my infiltrator run. The way I see up my Infiltrator, my widow sniper rifle and armor piercing rounds could kill a Banshee in 2 hits granted I got headshots
Oh yeah, those things are seriously terrifying. I just made a playthrough (on insanity difficulty) where the rule was not to use the guns and to start the whole mission over again if I die (not applying these rules to citadel DLC and the final part of priority earth, after you get to the thanicx missiles) and I died twice being impaled by Bashee's (the only to regular combat deaths I had, not counting citadel DLC) .

Personally, for me, it is the shriek of the Mass Effect 3 banshees that freaks me out the most. Even if I know how to fight them, I still instinctively fling myself across the room whenever I hear them. In game of course. No way anyone would do that in real life. I most certainly have not.
What, no mention of the Reaper sound from Mass Effect series (the third one in particular)?! That sound is made from nightmares. Sometimes I hear a similar sound in real life from a construction site or the railways, and I immediately look at the skies to see if there are, in fact, Reapers landing.

^ exactly. banshees i can handle, they're an enemy like any other one - all the reaper creatures are rather creepy. but the reapers themselves are still the worst for me. it's not about "jumping at you", it's about the feeling of imminent doom. because honestly, what can you really do against a reaper who can just blast your ass along with half of the city.
I thought hearing a chainsaw rev up in RE4 was far more terrifying than hearing Regenerators. The sound itself wasn't as inherently creepy, but it meant you'd have to deal with a bullet sponge who moves fairly quickly and will kill you in one hit if you get too close, usually while also worrying about a bunch of standard villagers. Plus most of them are in the first half of the game, when your guns are weak and ammo is scarce, which can leave you aching for ammo after an encounter.
-with an inventory of gold, diamonds and enchanted items on survival miles away from your spawn point on top of a lava pool surrounded by fire proof spiders, at night. right by a skeleton spawn point just beyond your reach. and you are missing one supply to make a bed. and its miles away above ground. and you have seconds and only a two block path out.
Minecraft sounds are creepy all together. Zombies just sound creepy, but the skeletons arrows flying scare me more. I'm usually killed by some random skeleton from a distance.
Dude, Yes! That Big Sister screech that makes your screen all fuzzy is terrifying! Especially when you didn't realize you were returning the last Little Sister and weren't prepared.
For me is FNAF 4. I don't sure but there is animatronic scream and... screaming of child? I think so? I can imagine that little boy screaming when he's about to get eaten.
How about the Ghost's screech? I still hear it in my nightmares... Also the reapers are programmed to spawn behind you and roar, THANK YOU SO MUCH DEVS!
My thoughts exactly. I practically jump whenever I hear a warper. It feels like the audio of Subnautica was designed to scare people. Not to mention, there’s always the chance that a glitch will screw you over.
@@DaydreamingArtist322 thats because it was made to scare you. Its main purpose is to make you paranoid, panicked, and on edge so the jump scare of turning to see them coming right at you is more effective.
what makes it worse is that you are pretty much ALWAYS within earshot of a reaper. There are 26 spawns around the map, the map is about 2 km by 2 km, and you can hear a reapers roar from half a kilometer away
The crying children in Doom 3, the growling of Reaper Leviathans in Subnautica, the motion tracker pings from Alien Isolation... Those will all send me to Brown Alert in seconds. But none quite generates the instant panic of hearing my personal favorite, Nuclear. *Launch.* *_Detected._*

Very true! ;-) I have always - since I was a kid, been able to see, that movies/games are nothing real, and therefor nothing to be scared about. Alien Isolation though, really scares me very much. It is a VERY cool, scary and well made game ;-)

To be honest the sound I dread the most is the combination of the guardian music and the laser beeping when you get targeted by a stalker in Breath of the wild. It haunts my nightmares
On the one hand Mass Effect 3 encourages you to explore the galaxy to discover war assets to aid you on the quest to reclaim earth from the reapers...on the other hand, Mass Effect 3 also tells you not to explore too the galaxy for too long as doing so leads to the hellish Inception horns that signify that the Reapers have entered the system you're currently exploring, and they're making a beeline right for you

As for me - Minecraft is the game with some very uncomfortable sounds, but worst of them is creeper about to blow up hissing right behind you. If you are playing on hardest dificulty and hearing that sound - you are realising that next moment you are dead (unless you have good armor or reflexes of an olympic sportsman). And if you hearing that sound while building/decorating your house - it is 5 times scarier.
I think the scariest sound for me would be hearing Chris Walker stomping around in Outlast. Followed by the sudden shrill music, hearing him charge behind you.
I know I'm way late but *sound of metal/giant knife being scraped against ground signalling Pyramid Head* Just...just imagine playing most other games and hearing that noise suddenly.
Or perhaps the sound of a vent rumbling overhead in *_Alien: Isolation (2014)._* I'm sure no one who has played that game can say they enjoy hearing that sound, especially if it's immediately followed by a loud, hoarse breathing sound. *Shudders.*
Grand Kaiju Gamer I’m terrified of all things Alien, so I decided to watch a play through of it by a comedic RU-vidr in order to help get over it. Didn’t help at all, btw. But I would jump at EVERY ambient noise, mostly the clicking of the computers.
For me it was always the motion sensor that gets me When I’m moving around in the vents and I hear that beep, that goddamed beep makes my heart skip 12 beats
While it’s not audio related, I almost dropped my efforts to conquer my fear when the let’s player entered the nest area. I just kind of froze, and slowly put down my phone and walked away.
I have an annoying tendency to catch the commenter's edition first most of the time and have had some ideas they still didn't touch on even in two videos. I'm sure they want to keep the content varied but they already do tremendously so the occasional commenter threequel would be pretty cool, actually.
A resource pack I made my friends changes stone and all ores' breaking sounds to a creeper hissing sound. It was fun seeing them try to figure it out as I pretended to not hear it.

I feel the worst sound I have ever head in gaming is the music from the title screen of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Even now, whenever I hear it, I relive the horror of paying £40 for Aliens: Colonial Marines.
