Those suck, even without 500 enemies rushing you as well. Screw Lao Shan Lung and screw Shen Gaoren. They don't even care that you're poking their legs with sharp objects, they just keep bashing away at the wall you're supposed to be protecting, the jerks...
The thing I dread most is the point in a game where this happens, "You will not return to this area, Are you sure you want to continue?" The answer is always no, not till I have done everything and anything in that area and even then do I struggle to say yes! :P
@@jonquist9950 Sometimes there's a story reason, sometimes not... it makes me want to look up a guide with a listing of all the loot in the area though.
Mass Effect 3 had it worst. You had to grind the multiplayer. I bet the multiplayer grind is worse than the ending itself, making only 1 choice matter (destroy)
@@jonquist9950 Horizon Zero Dawn does this perfect i can return to places where the secrets OMG that one more reason why this game i so epic. 🤓 And collectables that are worth something. 🤓
Looking at a map and there is an easy path straight through the center avoiding literately everything, so the idiot you are escorting goes out their way to find every monster on the map.
Oooh thats a good one. Like the world of ruin in ff6. Suddenly the planet has shattered and everything is different. Did you get everything done before then? Better hope so!
Yes! This happened to me in Horizon Zero Dawn. I will never be able to get the achievement of destroying all the training dummies in the Nora lands since they’re NOT THERE anymore
@@caketin6470 That's wrong, they are still there, you can do it when you come back after the credits. That was one of the last main game trophies I got before Platinum, you can also do it in the New Game + feature which is also a DLC anyway.
I am not fond of bits when you are poisoned or whatever is causing your health bar to drop and you've got to complete a task before your health hits zero.
Actually that was years ago. I gave up and haven't touched it since. I'm not sure if things will be different if I tried it now with more overall gaming experience, since I was pretty much a kid back then...
There is an AC Brotherhood trophy preventing me from getting the platinum and I finally threw in the towel as it's multiplayer and very much based on circumstance.
ajmrowland well, they filmed it in one sitting, so my guess is they didn't anticipate a need to go further or they got tired of it themselves? idk, hah, I don't work for them... though that would be lovely
Sister Friede... I was caught off guard by her 3rd phase while on low health and soul-farming gear, as I recall that was the moment I decided to stop being greedy
When a boss starts using different moves as it loses HP. Looking at you Sephiroth in Kingdom hearts 2. With your 1 HIT KILL MOVE WHILE BEING SO HIGH IN THE AIR YOU CAN'T HIT HIM!
@@tankofnova9022 lol that's what leveling up high jump and aerial dodge is for. Man I love that Sephiroth fight on critical mode. I pretty much had the whole thing memorized at one point.
@@tankofnova9022 trying to hit him is the wrong move anyway, found out at my own expense... just shortcut an healing item, let him do it, use the item as soon as he does the move then quickly use the reaction command for the multislash attack right after. That way it's easier. If you try to attack him while he is in the air missing that strike is basically opening yourself to death
EmilyNyan Nah. Bloodborne'd be better. But Rob has said repeatedly that he sucks at them and forcing him to play them wouldn't be fun for both him and us. Though seeing him get good would be cool.
"Are you sure you want to proceed to the next area? You won't be able to return to this point again!" Absolutely dread those moments, always worrying that I will have missed some weapon/item/secret which is impossible to go back for.
I only ever liked them in Assassin's Creeds, because NPCs in general had poor vertical FOVs so I could follow just about anyone with ease by parkouring up to the rooftops and leaping along. I suspect this was intentional, since you very seldom had to tail anyone in rural open areas.
I actually didn't have much problem with either of those. The one I hated was the chocobo race with all the balloons to get the Caladbolg sword for Tidus....
John Duggins my worst for that was FFVIII, when I didn't know that enemies scaled to Squall's level. I got to Ultimecia and everyone else was severely underleveled while he was 99, and then he got sucked into time. Made it impossible to beat.
Making a choice? What about the game giving you too much choice, especially at the beginning of games that have full character customization options. I spend HOURS trying to make the perfect character, and I spent more time researching on the Internet what to pick than actually playing the game, FFS.
Like AC Odyssey for example. I’ve spent too much time thinking about the families story and what ending I want , more than actually playing it. I hate that about RPGS sometimes, especially when am supposed to be playing it how I would, and what id choose if it was me lol
TNANK YOU! TIME MISSIONS ARE HORRID! And yes I hate the train sequence in FF8. Water levels are terrifying, that music in Sonic The Hedgehog makes me freak out. And don't get me started on decision makings! Completely agree with the path choosing bit. "This path is shorter. Therefore a treasure chest should be there... NOPE! Back, back, back!" And being stealthy can sod right off. I suck so much at stealth and driving games, so having it thrown into an RPG throws me right off. And YUS for using The Man With the Machine Gun for the final music, love that track so much ❤
specially in kingdom hearts 2. Yeah it's my first time so I have to learn it, but damn this goes on for hours! I finally wanna see all the cool disney stuff, that's why I got the game in the first place!
I hated the tutorials in kh 1 and 2 so much I made a save at the end of them then saved the rest of the games on a separate memory card so every time I played after I just loaded the memory card with the tutorials finished then switched to the other memory card before saving the "new" playthrough.
Try breath of fire dragonquarter the whole game is a timed mission and when u use dragon powers u shorten ur time... i fucked up halfway by abusing said power and was locked in place
I curse to all of the gods each time a game decides to have one of those 'no inventory' missions. For some lunatic reason you can't take your carefully selected and balanced items with you. Even worse, there's always this unreliable NPC trying to ease you in on it: "I'll keep your magic superblade for you, you'll get all your potions and ammo back from me, I swear! I'll even hang on to that one grenade you've been holding onto since mission1!"... No. No. No!
yea this is definately more stressful than playing as someone other than the protagonist, although along the same vein. The thief in me knows that once I part with that stuff it's as good as gone.
Infiltrating the Thalmor Embassy in Skyrim... UGH. I always forget to give Malborn some fricking potions to smuggle in for me, and then I'm fucked... XP
There's a 3rdPS I sometimes play where "levelling up" entails taking a skill test, but in some of them (mostly the stealth ones, and stealth is actually a component of the gameplay), all of your ranged weapons (some of which are silent and can normally be used stealthily) and any of the non-weapon powers you have are disabled. So it's melee-only stealth in a game where you're normally able to vaporize just about anything the moment you spot it.
Rob, I have an honourable mention for your video - "Interrupting a cutscene with a quick time event". Like for example Max Payne 3 or Mass effect 2 & 3 with those paragon / renegade clicks ... I hated those. If I'm not mistaking Hitman Absolution and Tomb Raider had QTE's in cutscenes as well (correct me if I'm wrong) A cutscene is my oasis, my break, my reward after fighting through countless enemies or whatever other actions, and yet the developers decide to shove the finger right in the middle of my so deserved mini holiday Here's an idea for your next video - "7 times QTE made us hate life" ............... Imagine ...............Rob all comfy and calm in his sofa with his controller in hand when Nathan starts shouting in his face "press X, press X, press X (or whatever)"
I'm fine with them in games where they are a common thing so you expect them nnd can be prepared ie. Indigo prophecy, heavy rain and beyond two souls. Or if there is enough on screen to indicate that your going to need to before you have to
unskipable cut scenes I hate but losing my gear generally don't bother me because whatever level it is has been designed to be defeated without your gear so its just another challenge to be overcome
Ever since the hopeless battle in Crisis Core I hate survival based missions where you need to hold out against x waves of enemies cause I keep flashing back to Zack and how as you fight the unending wave of soldiers and helicopters the dmg you take starts to go from normal to extremely high and the dwm or other starts breaking down and basically is showing Zack's life flashing before his eyes till the very last segment where you can't even move normally any more, your limping horribly, dwm has completely broke down is not spinning anymore, and you have to muster ever last bit of energy you have left just to swing the sword because he is hurt so bad but the enemy is just fine and still coming endlessly then the screen fading to black as you hear gun shots going off still my most emotional moment in gaming R.I.Pperoni Zack the puppy/hero you will always be missed.
People do like to take control of crucial things that happen in their life, whether it is their real life or their virtual one. What people really hate is when you have to make a choice between two important things in the game. I personally hate choices like, who do you want to save or with whom do you want to stay with, in The Walking Dead series. Why can't I just save both of them!
What about the games that take away all your items, weapons, etc. I dread that, it's in Skyrim, frequently in the Wolfenstein games, and even Bioshock.
simple game details that blew our minds. for example my husband could not get over the mud in uncharted 4 and the way it splashed around and covered vehicles and clothes and when you went into water it would wash off and everything woud be wet. :) -hazelnuthailey
kinda late to it but this video is genius (on a structural and writing level): every segment ties well to the next one (from timers to underwater levels using R&C, from that to escort missions using MGS2 and so on) also the jokes aren't the usual recycled family friendly stuff, these are still ad friendly but not cringy and the observations aren't copy pasted popular opinions like WatchMojo (i've never seen people point out the "trippy level" before but i think most of us thought about it at some point) lastly it's pretty well edited in a way that compliments the humour (the close-up at 4:42 is brilliant and had me in tears) it's really easy to miss these details but for a channel that basically serves as publicity to Playstation content exclusively and is not focused on trends, this is one of the only channels which get the "top X in Y" idea right and produce quality content.
Playing as someone other than the main character. I remember Chrono Cross and how the game forced you to play in the body of the villian Lynx for the majority of the game.
I totally agree with the first half of this list yet disagree with the second one - as I actually like stuff like making choices or loosening up the game with some different game elements ;)
Agree with every word this video said. Also, I often save before making a decision (such as in Witcher 3) and try each option to figure out which is best. As for getting lost, I enter a dungeon and go left whenever I get a choice, which statistically improves my odds of seeing as much as possible (especially in Fallout New Vegas where this method always results in me seeing every part of every cave).
Ditto on FF7 being the favorite game ever for me too!! You Sir have impeccable taste in entertainment!! I'll fight Sephiroth with you any day and any time💪👊🤘🤝
MIchael Chivers Blackreach was a goddamn nightmare for me. I'm the sort that has to look in every nook and cranny and loot *all* the things. And for this reason I have really good directional sense in dungeons. But not Blackreach, oh no. It's so big and a lot of it looks similar enough that building a mental map of it is damn near impossible. I've spent hours roaming in Blackreach.
"Defend this thing that's charging in this spot from wave after wave after wave after wave... oh no, an enemy sneezed on it, RESTART!" - Prototype was terrible for this "Wow, look at all your impressive abilities and powers. So cool. So amazing... aaaaand they're gone. Welcome to the world of RUN FOR YOUR LIFE LIKE YOU'RE PLAYING DARK SOULS WITH NO ITEMS!" "Backtrack to all the places that you've ever seen to find a thing that may-or-may-not be in any given area in order to move the story forward an inch"
Time limits...how I hate them. I usually finish the things with a lot of time left, but oh boy... They stress me out, and stress triggers my GAD, and anxiety really isn't making those limits more fun to play. About making choices: That's why you save about 100 times/hour. Or so. Especially when you are playing BioWare games. Surprise genre switching is the bane of my existence. "Surprise! Now you suddenly have to find your way out of this random labyrinth!"...and I barely have any sense of direction. T_T
Speak for yourself, I love abstract soul-searchy bits. They make me understand the characters better and they tend to have trippy visuals and often even great boss fights.
I dread the limit of time. Even if I know I have plenty of time. My palms sweat and Im shaking. BTW, its not for Bahamut Zero, its a Huge Materia. Oh and its horrible. The first time challenge in the Fire Cavern in FF8 even though it screws up my SeeD score, I pick the most time on the limit. Oh finally Sonic's underwater drowning limit make my butt cheeks clench. Oh oh ooof...dont make me make a choice. I get lost.
Stealth sections where detection means instant failure. I'm know I'm terrible at being stealthy, stop rubbing it in by making me repeat it over and over! It's even worse when its a surprise stealth section in a non stealth game. It's hard enough in a game designed around doing so, but in a game that has barely any stealth mechanics at all is a nightmare.
I like making decisions. makes any game better. decisions that actually alter the world is the difference between new vegas and fallout 4. between having a choice of being a douchebag or the shiny hero. there are too many games that force you to be good nowadays.
Those bits in Tomb Raider when they take your weapons away, and make you navigate unknown corridors, avoid baddies, swim underwater, avoid the flesh eating sea dwellers, pull a lever, swim all the way back to the corridor of baddies, and find the door you unlocked that might possibly be on a timer, but your weapons are in there...
Good music, though. Donk-donk, deesh-deesh, donk-donk. It's basically a slowed-down version of some of the other music in the game with some creepy sounds added. Some experimentation finds 7/3 speed gets it sounding pretty close to the original.
This Monday i'm gonna make my return into the PlayStation family, buy getting a PS4, so excited! The only other PS console i have is PS One, but it died couple of years ago :( What games should i instantly buy? xD
My favorite is when you find a very convent exit, have a great weapon, strong party member that you absolutely love. But wait, suddenly that simple exit gets blocked and you now have to backtrack a LONG way around the area or find a "hidden" exit in the room. Your great weapon for whatever reason is now forever gone from your inventory and you will never see it again. And last but least for "story" reasons the party member you favored the most is no longer working with your party.
“Toxic rise” sections-bits like that sewer bit in Ratchet and Clank, where you have to run away from something (usually liquid and lethal) that’s filling up the room/corridor you’re in, and there’s a million and one things in the way. I named them after a bit in Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy where you have to climb a silo filling up with poison rather quickly, literally called “Toxic Rise”
Driver back on PS1 was the most brutally insane for time limits for me. I'm okay with under water as long as the area isn't clutter with tight space all the time. Escorts, I feel your pain. I never like those missions. It's a pain when I'm busy defending myself from a strong mob and the the escort just walk out getting themselves shot up like they want to be. I'd gladly trade doing the Chocobo Races and Breeding them for recovering Cloud's memories with you Rob. I love those creepy void scenes. I never been carried with Chocobo quests. I thought the part were Squall hanging on the hover machine in the Galbadia Garden fight was the worst since the camera kept moving around and I can't see when to block. Another great video, guys. Can't wait to see you next week.
Playing as Ellie was actually really fun, because I had upgraded the hunting rifle and bow a ton. Also, the sound her pistol makes is awesome. To top it off, she has an unbreaking shiv - her knife!
