Air rifle scopes, mounts and everything you always wanted to know about optics, but were afraid to ask:
1. Scope tube size - 1", 30mm, and 34mm
2. Parallax adjustment - or "focus" in layman's terms (front focus or side focus)
3. First focal plane vs. second focal plane - which is recommended for when
4. Reticle types - duplex, mil-dot, christmas tree, etc, etc, etc
5. Spring rated scopes
6. Mounts - weaver or picatinny, 2-piece or 1-piece? low, medium or high, droop compensation?
7. Proper mounting a scope procedure (www.pyramydair.com/brands/fix...)

I must say I use the “eye it “ method for scope mounting,and it works fine for me.I used Tom Gaylord video where he opens two eyes and just bisects the rifle with the vertical crosshairs of the scope.Has worked very well for me at the distances I hunt,which generally ,is 50 yards and in. Piss on those levels and plumb bobs and all that other malarkey.

Great video and it cleared up a question I've had for years. I've seen, over and over, where an "expert" claimed that the larger tubes allowed more light to pass through to the eye. Having some familiarity with astronomical scopes and an understanding of manufacturing practices, I knew that was BS. Tubes are made at least as big as will allow all the usable light through. Why spend money making an expensively large aperture only to stop it down with a tiny tube? Just save manufacturing costs by making a smaller aperture since size and cost are related. I was always left wondering, "Since that's a bunch o' bull, whats the real reason?" and your point about giving more adjust-ability makes perfect sense and rings true to me. So thanks for clearing that up for me, and I'm sure, many others.

Thanks for the information. IF I had seen this video before buying my well respected pellet rifle brand I might have not bought a springer, but "maybe" a PCP. For my various reasons I *need* a quiet rifle. A PCP probably won't do that for me either, unless I undertake a. college of knowledge research approach. Projectile speed sonic noise is very often not even thought about by newbies in the pellet gun game. People just don't know what they don't know so they sometimes end up making bad decisions by just watching a few video product reviews. After buying a 3rd party scope for my, supposedly good for accuracy reviews rifle, I'm disappointed that I needed to buy a replacement scope at all. The manufacturers have to deal with price competition so they "include" the cheapest scope they can to make sales. It looks a little like a marketing trap. With the scope included with my new air rifle even when the crosshairs are in focus and I get my eye the distance from the eyepiece that gives me a "no blackout" in the view I still see the cross hairs move WAAAY off the target when I hold the rifle still, but move my eye up and down or right to left. That causes a lack of accuracy. How can I ever learn where to put my eye to the scope so the scope gives me reliable accuracy? It's a mystery, plus when hunting there's very often not enough time to fiddle around with eye placement in the scope view. That's what I got with my second focal plane scope, the one included with the scope and the new 3rd party scope. A fastened down target stays still long enough for that fiddling around , but vandalizing critters don't stay still very long. IF I had known about 1st focal plane / 2nd focal plane scope. I might have spent more for the scope for my intended purpose than for the well respected rifle I picked OR might not have bought a pellet rifle in the first place. I can deal with (did) get a MIL dot scope to adjust for the arc of the pellet trajectory, bit not knowing that greater arc of trajectory plus focal plane differences before hand makes dealing with a pellet rifle harder from the get go. Then not knowing about the dual directional recoil could cause me to quickly ruin a decent high powered rifle scope mounted to a pellet gun. Most of that stuff is glossed over OR not mentioned at all in pellet gun video reviews. Buying a pellet gun that will serve as well a decent hunting rimfire rifle, but be as quiet as needed will cost as much as or more than a decent rimfire rifle with a decent hunting scope. OK I'm through crying now. lol I just have now to search out and buy a scope that costs more than my rifle.

What’s your opinion? I purchased the scope Discovery LHD-NV 4-16X44SFIR SFO for my PCP high-powered pellet rifle. 1,100 FPS and 70 FPE. I spoke to some experts and they told me that if I am exclusively focusing on marksmanship/target, shooting with my pellet rifle to a my maximum distance of 300 yards and maybe 400 yards if possible that I should exchange my scope for the first focal plane Discovery model which is Discovery optics LHD 3-12X42SFIR FFP. A minority of people told me that it’s a personal choice.

I just picked up a Umarex/Ruger 4x32 scope at a yard sale for 5 bucks. It appears to be in good condition, clear view and no damage. The questions that I have are: 1) What type of scope is it? 2) Is it suitable for both air rifles and 22 lr semi-autos?
@jrgamair
@jrgamair Год назад
if it does not have AO - probably not meant for airguns, unless you are shooting 35 yards and further. Most firearm scopes have parallax adj. set to 25 or 30 yards, while airgun scopes have lower parallax (i.e. - allowing you to focus at not just longer but also shorter distances). Quick and easy check with the scope in your hand

for some one looking to start pcp bullpup or rifle and is a regulated rifle really better than non reg
@pyramydair
@pyramydair 2 года назад
It's always a trade off. Costs more money, adds parts to the gun, but you get performance like shown here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O2Xn4kfOgsI.html
@tylerpatner6591
@tylerpatner6591 2 года назад
Depends on your expectations, needs and budget. A regulator is going to typically make the best use of your air and provide better shot to shot consistency compared to a non-regulated gun. That tends to lead to more consistent down range accuracy over the entire shot string, but doesn't necessarily make a regged gun more accurate than an unregged gun.

@pyramydair
@pyramydair 2 года назад
Even UTG ones?
@tylerpatner6591
@tylerpatner6591 2 года назад
That's not correct as a general statement. Most of the springer rated optics out there are rated for magnum powered guns just as well as standard or low power springers/gas rams. There are only a handful that explicitly do not recommend their scopes on magnums. As I say towards the end of the springer rating section, it's important to purchase springer rated optics for your springers/gas rams to ensure you have warranty protection should it break in use. At the end of the day, with a magnum spring or gas ram gun, the rating is basically warranty protection should you run into issues, it does not mean that the scope is going to last forever.

Great info on scopes, it really helps for sure, however why do I keep moving around in the room. One minute im looking straight at you and you engaged directly at me speaking, then for no reason you place me over to the side and start speaking to the person that took my spot, what happened did you get bored talking to me. Im glad to see this multi camera angle style of filming coming to an end on RU-vid videos but for some reason the editor at pyramid air really really likes to use it all the time. Call it "artistic" if you will but when you change the angle its almost kind of rude, one minute your speaking to me and all the other thousands of viewers watching, then for no reason you turn away as if being bored with the viewer and would rather speak to an imaginary person that's not really there. I do enjoy Pyramid Air videos its just this copy cat style of filming im tired of seeing, it takes me away from what is being said. Other than that, thanks for all the fantastic info over the years.

"Observed displacement of an object caused by the change of the observer's point of view"... regardless of focus. You can't trust anything someone like this says... they are talking for the purpose of making money and are totally unreliable. Stay safe.
