1. Having your own well or water source 2. Having workable soil 3. Knowing the regulations and restrictions of where your land is located 4. Knowing about the climate of where your land is 5. Is the property accessible? 6. Income? Does this area have work? 7. Trees - do you have em, do you need em?

I can suggest another, an 8th item to your list, and extremely important, to which I can attest. Will the people, the human community, accept you? Will you find them acceptable and life there livable? This can become an overwhelming issue. Unfortunately, even wild animals can be less beastly.

Love your page, but “taking water out of your own well” here is taken completely out of context. This is talking about being satisfied with your own wife and fleeing sexual sin and adultery. This is not about being self sufficient. I comment this because proper Biblical reading matters especially when thousands of people watch this video

That proverbs reference is actually a reference to the sexual relationship in a monogamous marriage…don’t sleep around as a married individual. Great video!

Agree. It's about regarding your marriage as sacred, and the wife specifically as the well or cistern.

I hail from North Dakota (and still live there, I've moved a whole mile from the house I grew up in.) and the cold here is about as bad as you can get in the lower 48. -20 in the winter is a given. -40 is common, and -60 happens, all while the wind on a slow day is 15-20 mph in the winter. The real trick to staying warm in extreme cold is get your core HOT. Forget that stuff people say about not getting too hot in the core or you will sweat and get cold. Once your core is hot, you can ditch first your gloves, then your hat, and your core will push so much heat to them that they will stay hot, no matter how cold it is. The caveat to this is it doesn't work if there's much snow in the air, in that case keep the hat and gloves on no matter how hot you get. I've been told it also doesn't work while on a snowmobile, but I've never driven one so I have no idea there.

Something to consider with those hogs.....maybe the neighbor won't ever get them, but if that's his way of saying, "I don't want you here," do you really want him to be your neighbor?? Something to consider.....

Hello, brother! We are considering getting a small camper to live in while we move around and look for property and then park it in a pole barn or metal frame structure to live in while we take our time and build out a home inside of that debt-free. Hope to see you again, soon!

Yout voice sounds do much like Steve Smith from the Red Green Show. A Canadian tv show from the 90's and early 2000's. It's on RU-vid here I think. I know you'd get a kick out of the show. 😅

There are only 20 remote counties east of the Mississippi. I am moving north because less people. More people that are like minded. I like being way in on a 2 track. I like having cfa land butting up to property to hunt. I get job offers every time I am up north. In skilled trades and my skills are in high demand. Actually building masonry passive solar earthship house with masonry heater.

Most important No HOA's or Covenants. Also make sure your property isn't partially flooded or muddy part of the year.

There is another thing people should consider when moving rural and that is the wildlife. When I retired my wife and I moved to the south from Chicago and while we did have wildlife such as Whitetail deer and even Coyotes in the city we had no experience with Rattle snakes or Copperheads, what a surprise! It's a little unnerving when you open your back door to let the dogs out at night and you spot a Rattler three feet away from your door. The biggest Rattler I have seen so far was a little over six foot long that someone ran over on the road in front of my property so that means it was on my property at some point or even has a den on it. They are there even if you don't see them. So far I have had to deal with about a dozen Copperheads and the same amount of Rattlers and by deal with I mean get rid of, if you take the hint. You have to learn how to avoid them by not sticking your hands in the bushes or other places you can't see in. There are also Bobcats and we have seen them but we haven't seen them on our property. Some neighbors say there are Mountain lions here (Here is Southern Middle Tennessee) but we haven't seen any of those and also Bears in this state east of us but we haven't seen any of those either around here. We have had feral hogs in our back yard leading into the woods and I swear the first one I saw looked like a Razorback and it was BIG, big enough to do some real damage or worse so you need to know what is out there when you buy some property.

Hi Brother Chad... Jonas from India.. We were blessed by your presentations in our New Delhi Central Church.. We are praying about moving out of the busy Delhi city.. For some time, we have been praying and looking for some country property... The local culture issues(People, religion, language and Security) have sometimes caused a roadblock for moving out.. Can you kindly recommend from the Indian setting on what would be recommended pls... Thanks

Are there any families in your church or other local church who are also looking for land? See if you can look for properties together and create your own micro- community because there's strength in numbers. Not looking for 100 people--more like 10-20 and you can offer mental and spiritual support to each other.

You mentioned heating with solar being a difficulty. That is certainly true with photovoltaic solar (where you make electricity) but thermal solar panels are a good way to produce at least a sizable chunk of your needed heat. They have strong potential for diy building, are inexpensive and relatively simple to build. With slightly more complexity, you can produce all the heat you need for the vast majority of circumstances using thermal mass to store heat during the day and releasing it at night.

It is expensive but a survey is the way to go. If you have a survey done make sure they don't just mark the corners but flag the sides.

A corollary to handling cold or heat well: those individuals with very dry skin generally do better in warm humid areas, while those with very oily skin do better in cooler, drier areas. I love Alaska, but my dry skin cracks and bleeds 1 month into winter... and stays that way until spring. So my skin does better in Florida.
