Love tsn bardown so much as a British hockey player growing up rn its hard that I have to travel 40 mins to the nearest rink. So instead of going to skate every other day I watch you guys cause your awesome!
"At least give the guy a name" Can't you read? That's the legendary hockey analyst Mr. Hockey Analyst! His parents had a dream for him and he delivered.
A buddy was telling me about the full on storyline that NBA2K has in their Be A Player mode and I was jealous. It would have been my favourite game of all time if not for the basketball part. Makes me hate EA even more for buying exclusivity and then proceeding to manhandle the franchise.
It's insane that there isn't a record book that you can look at and see changes happen over the year. 2K has had this since they were releasing ESPN games
Bloodjinn Rowan if they modeled it after MyCareer from 2K they could rope people back in as well as sell the same/more type of stuff in that mode no problem. The issue with BAP is that there is so much potential to bring it online and revive it with a story mode or something but they either don’t see it or won’t do it for some reason. Beats me why not
Bloodjinn Rowan also maybe not packs but if they built a place to “hang out” and train with rinks you could play pick up games of ones or something on they could sell exclusive clothes, equipment, tattoos, and other stuff that would for sure sell if you could use it in other sub-modes of BAP
Drew V I didn’t like the interviews, just made it way to long and it was boring.. But yeah they need to upgrade BE A PRO..it’s embarrassing. I remember in nhl 15 and under on old hen you were allowed to request a trade. But you weren’t even allowed to on next gen till nhl 18.
Alternative idea to your guys' battle royale suggestion, rather than last one to score is eliminated until only one person remains, why not a massive rink with 12 nets along the outside? Each net belongs to a player, and if you get scored on, you’re gone.
7 things you should know about NHL 20: 1.) They charge you $60 for the same game every year and they encourage minors to gamble. 2.) They charge you $60 for the same game every year and they encourage minors to gamble. 3.) They charge you $60 for the same game every year and they encourage minors to gamble. 4.) Please stop supporting EA. They're ruining the gaming industry.
Probably wont buy another NHL til' they give Be a pro a real makeover/introduces a storymode. Because I basically only play Be a pro, and some "regular" matches with friends, but as it looks now, there is no reason to buy a new game just for that.
They didn’t hate it, they just saw room for improvement where EA could improve game modes. The game itself is awesome but it lacks revamped game modes like 2k, fifa or madden always do
Welcome to game journalism. It's all fake and no one gives a score below a 7 because they want to please the company that gives them free, early copies of their games to review.
I would LOVE a hockey theme 2k my park. Just like going onto a giant frozen lake with makeshift rinks and stores and cabins to buy new gear. That’s what I hope comes out in nhl 21
i spend literally my whole year playing GM mode im playing it now as i watch this. its my favorite game mode and i wish they added me stuff to it on a regular basis but this years improvements mean so much the whole coaching aspect really help when it comes to building a team and setting minutes for players rather than drafting all MED elites and putting them wherever
For searching the auction house, you can go through your collection and pick a player then look at all the auctions for that specific card. And you can also post an auction from your collection as well
I think it would be a great idea if we could choose a role in franchise mode like in Madden. Coach (lines and morale), gm (trades, draft, contracts/free angecy) and owner (relocation or rebranding, budgets managing, hiring staff). And maybe add mode where you can control everything like this year.
The thing about 2k is it teaches you about basketball and in myplayer and my gm it actually has realistic depiction of what it means and takes to be a NBA player or management. I didn’t like basketball until I started playing 2k and NHL should have the same goal.
I bought it yesterday, i’ve been playing for just 2 or 3 hours and i’m both happy and disapointed. The gameplay is a lot better imo, really funny and better than 19. I like the new commentators, they are not better than the previous , but i like them. The HUD is HORRIBLE, the new score board should be on the top of the screen, seeing it in the the bottom really bothers me. We dont see the faces of the commentators in the beginning of the game like in nhl19. The removed a lot of FUCKING GOAL SONGS. WTF EA, you are getting 60-70€ per game every single year and you are not able to buy the fucking song rights. Are you kidding us? And the last negative point for me is the fucking price, 69.99 is a fucking joke. Im glad to have bought it on xmast sales for 39, and its still expensive.
Glad I'm not the only one bothered by the menu being the same thing every year now! Miss how different it was year by year from NHL 08, 09, 10, 11 and also features different players in the background too. Also with the soundtrack I wish it would have more songs and more of a variety to it as well. Also with the soundtrack i feel its weird that the NHL series ever since it went to the current generation of gaming systems also doesn't give you the option of going through the soundtrack and turning songs on and off, actually seeing the soundtrack, changing the song if you want to listen to a different song, and when a new song does start (also going back to not being able to actually see the soundtrack) you don't see the artist song and album which I feel sucks for the player not being able to see the info for the song (especially if they like it) but also for the band I guess not getting proper credit.
The line chemistry is a life saver. You can make bottom 6 guys grow like crazy simply because of chemistry with coaches and other players, which to me seems rather realistic
Training camps and PTO signings and have the ECHL teams and able to call them up to ahl or nhl would be great and show the draft lottery actually happen
If EA wants me back in the fold: 1. Finally bring the game to PC... 2. Seriously step up the franchise mode 3. Offer online franchise mode like the old NHL2K games did.
I like the hire/fire staff idea with retired players being available for hire. Bog franchise fan haven't bought since 2017 because it's always been the same thing. I'll buy again if they ever do cross platform with a PC version
You guys nailed it. This year had so little to be excited for that I don't even know why I bought the game besides the fact that I buy it every year. Be a Pro could really use a massive overhaul, because when you compare it to other games, it's at least 5 years behind.
Quiz idea: The hardest hockey quiz Rules: No strikes, 10 questions, the bonus question is a question with more than 1 answer and if there is a tie at the end the winner is the one who does the best in the bonus for example the bonus is name the teams in the nhl from worst to best in the standings last season and say 2 people get 9 right the one who did best in the bonus wins, other than that just questions that would be used as final Boss questions. LIKE SO THEY CAN SEE.
I miss the ability to play online franchise mode with you’re friends. Being able to draft a team and then play against them was TOP TIER and they need to bring it back ASAP.....
Great review guys. I don't know if it's the Atlanta Jersey but the dude on the right looks like Dustin byfuglien's son. I've been playing the NHL games since the very start this is the first one that I actually haven't bought the day of. I will buy it because the hook for me is playing with Legends and putting them on current rosters and mixing up rosters that's kind of fun. But I'm going to wait till like Christmas or after Christmas with a games like 20 bucks
Thoughts from me. I’ve been playing since NHL 12 and a lot of things have been dropped. Like you mentioned, they should add drills like fastest skater, and accurate shooting to practice mode, franchise mode and be a pro. If they add training to be a pro to boost your shooting accuracy or speed, that would give training a reason to be in the game. Also, they should bring back NHL Moments Live. It would be a welcome addition back to the menu. A minor addition to the menus would be a quick max or min option for gameplay sliders. You could use gameplay sliders to do a lot of funny things, but it takes too long. Having a max or min button would make things roll along a lot faster. More alumni would be better like Bobby Orr, and Mike Bossy. Lastly a new mode. I’m thinking of more chaotic but fun modes, like 12 man ones. That’s all.
I haven't played since NHL13. I keep thinking "Maybe i'll get back into the series" and now I feel like I'm so far behind, but at the same time the fact that it seems so unchanged even since then has me wondering *if* I ever will.
Hope the NHL devs see this. I really agree that changes need to happen in almost every mode. Dynamic cutscenes in be a pro would bring a lot back to it. Changes in franchise, hut, and world of chel would keep me more engaged. The game has only been out for over a week and I’m already getting bored because it’s just like the last one. I hope the devs care enough to see this video and take notes. There are still a lot of NHL fans out here!
I still wish you could change the arena/venue like in other games (FIFA, et al) like Winter Classic stadiums past and present (Notre Dame Stadium WC was awesome in person, would be dope in game), and I’m sure you Canadian folks would love to use the Heritage Classic venues too
Good review, and my two cents on why they add some new things and change some things but don't change sooo much stuff and also leave some things from previous years never even play or really see each different mode of the game. Like I only own NHL I consider myself to play a lot and last year I played CHEL and online verse the year previous played HUT year prior played online verse and tried season etc.
One thing that gets overlooked a ton is goalie customization. Preset helmets generally look awful, and it’d be great to make your own like Forza lets you with car decals. Maybe one step further and let us do it was the pads too, and be able to download community-made designs.
The only question I have for any new hockey videogame: How does it compare to NHL94 on Sega Genesis? That’s all I want, and after 28 years, I do expect EA to have everything perfected by now.
This is the first hockey game I’ve played since WG’s 3D for N64, and the biggest upset to me is the fact that in 2020, I can’t choose what arena I play in for a quick play, which is insane to me because every other sports series I know let’s you do that.
I have and play NHL 18 on PS4, yes there are some very frustrating things about the gameplay. Can anyone tell me if i should consider upgrading to NHL 20? I mostly play offline (franchise, season, other offline modes) Thanks
Anyone else notice how, in the World of Chel game mode because there's no audience, it just cuts to a view of a helicopter literally every time there's a stoppage in play.
I really buy chel because of EASHL... every year it's the same, but they actually remove stuff more than they add. Remember when you could change your stick blade type in 14? Or when you could choose the edge type of your skates? The different choices actually changed the shooting stat for the blade type and the skates would change the amount of acceleration, speed or agility accordingly. We also used to have practice mode in EASHL. If I needed to practice my shots with my buddy, we'd just hop into practice. Same with practicing as a goalie... Instead of screwing up in a drop-in, we could just practice. Some features I'd suggest: If there are more than 6 people on, someone always ends up being left out. We should be able to have line changes for this reason. Facescan! PLEASE! Not that crappy Gameface EA had for FIFA, but something like in NBA2K. With today's technology it should be easy to implement. They should also add national teams with the World-Cup and Olympics to "Be A Pro" and some lower division teams. This would really add a TON to the mode.
What I want is a choice of playoff modes, like, yeah its cool to play for Lord Stanley, but Id love to do playoff runs for like AHL teams or some of the European leagues instead of hopping in and having to grind out a whole season every time I wanna have a playoff battle.
i think chel should do something like superstar ko in madden when u start off with a generic team, every time u win u choose a superstar player in a draft
In Be a pro mode there should be more options where to play in before the draft. Like i dont always wanna play in the memorial cup or the chl i wanna play in like finland or sweden before i get drafted
We should be able to challenge plays in Franchise, Season Mode, Play Now, etc. They need to change things in be a pro like actually being able to do your workouts or training.
No one remembers back in like NHL 07... you had the same chemistry system plus hot and cold streaks... even a neet newspaper thing over major things... like trade for a star get a newspaper, win the cup you know some cool stuff
