You missed a mention of the Buster Sword. In FFIX, Zidane comes across a sword which looks just like the Buster Sword hanging in a shop. He comments on how it must have been wielded by a good warrior.
Buster Sword also appears in the mobile game, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius as a weapon that Rain, Lasswell and other similar sword-wielders can use. Its icon shows it as the classic weapon as well. Save The Queen also appears as a sword AND a whip (marked with which game it came from).
@@KittyKatt_Luna80s Technically everything appears in that game. Its probably best to leave out mobile games. They tend not to focus on originality and bring is existing items and characters regardless as nostalgia bait. Though FFBE is a solid game for it being a gacha mobile title
"Save the Queen" can also be used by Donald Duck in the Kingdom Hearts Series, where it the "Ultima" staff for Donald. It conterpart is Goofys Shild "Save the King"
I'd have to say that the Buster Sword is the most legendary weapon in Final Fantasy, not only is it by far the most recognisable weapon in the franchise but it's one of the most iconic weapons in all of fiction. In the same way that you immediately think "Star Wars" when you see a Lightsaber you immediately think Final Fantasy when you see the Buster Sword, whether you like the weapon or not it IS the symbol of the franchise.
@@hyperspace2752 in the remake thankfully it’s one of the best ones at least to me, after completing the game and fully unlocking the abilities I almost never take it off cloud I love the buster sword to much
This is cool man. You have a great voice for this as well. Thanks for the interesting video! I'm going to watch the entire thing and share it with my buddy.
@UCteKrhpaIZfXlVAwd_HhcqA Are you sure you meant that? I mean, you LITERALLY wrote, that it's every gamer's favourite weapon. You did not write "every Sephiroth fan's". Both are so distinct things, that it surely wasn't a typo. I don't think you are a dumb person, so I'm sure you didn't write something when you actually meant something entirely different. If you meant "every gamer", that can be your opinion and most people would understand your statement as hyperbole or over-exaggeration. It's fine.
@@inesatt1313 yes cause ever since FFVII OG everytime we see Masamune we always see Sephiroth holding it....especially since it is not only iconic to him but it is the very weapon we remember that ran through Aerith's back out her chest....*flashes of Aerith death in mind*............
For me the Masamune's most iconic appearance is from another Square RPG, Chrono Trigger. However, yes, in Final Fantasy it definitely has its most iconic iteration as Sephiroth's sword. It's just an iconic Square sword all around, also being one of the names the Mana Sword has during its progression.
The buster sword was also referenced in The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile in the form of the so called "cloud sword". It's flavor text is a clear nod. It also appeared wielded by Cloud in Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring (and masamune by Sephiroth)
Squalls my favorite videogame character so the revolver has always been my favorite videogame weapon. The lionheart let him unleash the lionheart move but the revolver just looked so iconic and in the opening fmv sequence it just blew my 8th grade mind. So glad it made it on the list.
@@madthrasher88 They existed historically, jut not in the way FF8 had them. Usually part of the guard or a small barrel next to the blade. Gun axes were more practical conceptually.
Ultima Weapon is also Vincent’s best handgun in dirge of Cerberus. If you upgrade the model gun all the way it becomes the ultima weapon. It holds 99 rounds and with the right customization items it can rival the death penalty. Zantetsuken means cutting iron sword. I once read in stories that ishikawa goemon had it and could, as the name implies, cut through iron. Perfect for an instant death weapon.
Yes, they are DLCs, which are included in the Steam version of the game (for free). But from previous FFs there's only Cloud and Yuna's outfits (both outfits from FFX and X-2).
Fun fact: Squall isn't the only character who can use a more damaging attack when the button is pressed down. All the characters can do it, if you can time the button press right!
Is Excalibur not included due to its legendary status outside of the series in general? If so, wouldn't the Masamune fall into the same concept? Masamunes appear in a great number of games, including Chrono Trigger as a double-edged sword.
One that always comes to mind for me, at least in the earlier games, is the Yoichi Bow. It was always one of, if not the strongest bow in the game and I think it was named after one of the devs. They even had Yoichi Arrows as the strongest arrow.
So they actually made Ultima weapon into a series of weapons in 14. If you complete the Weapon's Refrain ultimate raid, you can obtain an Ultima version of your ARR lvl 50 relic weapon.
Lightning doesn't use Zantetsuken. If you take a look at Lightning Returns you'll see the weapons' actual name. Gagnrad. It doesn't even look like Zantetsuken, and it's the same weapon she uses in the first FFXIII game.
No. 9, then later, Aya, as a battle bonus loot, wielded a gun-functioning, Gunblade. Though it uses 12 Shotgun Shells (likely an allusion to the 12 Pulse Ammo needed in the original game) When triggered with the sword slash, depending on the ammo used, damage is between 600-2000 HP The gun part alone deals damage between 30-120 HP. Sword slash alone deals about 100 HP.
I think Save The Queen ultimately took the spot because of its association with the character Beatrix whereas Excalibur had none. Of course we all know Excalibur is famous for its lore outside the FF series as well as being a decent-to-strong weapon depending on the series you're playing.
Darryl, you mention boomerangs being unorthodox. In fact, before it became a toy/sporting article, the Aborigines used boomerangs as a hunting weapon. 😺
My favorite image of the masamune was in ff7 when you find the giant snake from the meadow stabbed thru with it ... I remember A: wondering why it is just sitting here and I can't take it and B: how bad ass it looked
Great vid as usual, might I suggest the next topic (or in the future) the history of airships. Thought about it when Ragnarok was mentioned and that airship continues to be my number 1 airship throughout the franchise.
Missed a few with the buster sword... Like in 12 with Gilgamesh wielding a replica saying "fake" in Japanese... Fake or not it's still a replica... Also the buster sword has numerous variations in the mobile gacha games that each represent it's life and history with details changing slightly to obvious differences... Definitely needs to be looked at as you don't get to see the details easily in most games like the gacha mobile games give you
Not sure if you guys take FFBE into account or not, but most of these weapons appear within that game as either trust master rewards or super trust master rewards. Some of them being some of the highest damage output ones too.
Love this channel. Everyone lend me your power in manifesting the leaks into reality. FFTactics remaster!? FF9 Remaster!? Chrono Cross Remaster!? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want a challenge, that's something you could try, just playing the game with only the Buster Sword. Which, once you begin leveling up won't pose a massive challenge but still would make things more difficult.
I think that the reward for the ultimate X task shouldn't be something that makes you better at X. For example an ultimate battle challenge shouldn't give you a reward that makes you better at battle. A pinnacle platforming challenge shouldn't make you better at platforming. If you can beat the hardest challenge in a category, why would you appreciate improving in that field?
I remember getting save the queen on ffxi. Thw excitement didn't last as I realised I would replacing it after a couple of levels. Hagun is iconic to me. Well chuffed when it finally dropped.
No mentioning of bows and pole-arms? The Final Fantasy series loves naming weapons from mythic and legends. You'd be fascinated in the number of legendary names you might discover.
Did they ever give out a name for that crazy transformer sword that garland wields in dissidia? I think you missed the masamune from chrono trigger, although I could have blinked and missed it lol. FF 2's remake also featured ragnarok as firions ultimate weapon. Save the queen was Donald's staff too, and I think was celes's ultimate weapon in the ff 6 remake. Then of course gilgamesh used masamune in multiple titles.
There is a difference between Ultima Weapon and Ultima Blade. Also Save the Queen in XIII was a jacket as was all of Snows weapons. Yep he was a fist fighter but his weapon was indeed his jacket.
I love that in 14 they kept the lore of the gunblade as it was in 8. In other games they make the gunblade a literal gun with a sword and they use them as rifles with a bayonette. In 14 they kept the og lore of shooting the gun to force the blade to swing faster (yes yes I know, totally stupid, unrealistic, blah blah blah, nobody cares, f off). Now, if only they could give us a Busterblade glamour, that would be awesome.
Final fantasy XIV have the ultima weapon, after you kill the Ultima Weapon Ultimate, all the weapons are variations of the Ultima Weapon for your chosen job, and, at the time, it was the best weapon in the game.
"no creator has been brave enough to try to recreate the buster sword" outside of the madlad creator that obviously reinvented it for advent children you mean?
Damn i stopped playing FFBE for 3 years now before all the games went into gacha mode. FFBE prepared me so much. I could only imagine all the cool FF stuff and Collabs i missed. Makes me wanna come back.
The Neo Vision system is everything wrong with gachas, turned up to 11. I had lots of fun when I played FFBE, but imho, if you were to go back now, it would seep through and tarnish all the good memories of the game.
7* are dead, and with it less character variation. Banners are so boring nowadays. I'm just on break mode where I just log in for rewards since I've gotten bored =/ I actually had more fun finally getting my 2nd king rain and using him in older trials than I do playing neo visions content.
I tried to go back to that game and I was confused with everything they changed I tried to learn but said screw it after a few weeks. Plus my characters were always hopelessly crappy 😂
@@ian0608 Which characters did you have at your disposal? Unless you're from way way back when (like first 5* units) you should be able to do some of the added trials and then build up again.
I feel like I should be able to write a comment about these 7 weapons guessing what they are before watching the video. But my mind is drawing blank on weapon names since I am trying to focus on them. Haha
Steiner's ultimate weapon is technically the Excalibur II. Yes, it's hard to get, but not impossible at all and it's a weapon in the game. So, saying Ragnarok is his ultimate weapon is just incorrect. While we're at it: the fact, that the Excalibur with its rich history and references throughout the entire franchise and big ties to one of the most iconic recurring characters of the franchise (Gilgamesh) is a big oversight imo. I absolutely love your content, but I didn't really feel this one.
