"...we would play the same riffs, over and over, without a drummer...and eventually I met a drummer..." Quite the origin story for a guy who hoards them now ;) Long live the Osees
Zig-Zag Wanderer try all of ty segalls older records (horn the unicorn, lemons, melted, self-titled, and the first 5 songs off of his Split LP with Black Time)
Have you heard Guided By Voices? If you like the OSEES you would probably like them. They release 3 albums a year. Robert Pollard is insanely prolific.
27.6.22 2141PM YEAH..... my school mates enjoyed ac/dc... i didnt.. it's weird that some kids have precocious tastes in music in their formative years and some kids just seem retarded on that score... sex pistols and the obligatory pop punk and motorhead. that'd be it... so yer only gonna get a decent conversation outta ac/dc fans and motorhead fans.. and queen? i suppose queen would signa a mature taste in music...
I will never forget seeing john dwyer sitting right next to me during the set of the opening band. I was just sitting down on some stairs with a beer and i looked to the left and there he was sitting right next to me ... my fucking idol the man that changed the way i look at rock music forever. I shat my pants and i was way to nervous to talk to him because i wasnt prepared at all for this but i catched him after the show, had a short conversation with him and took a picture. You know that saying "never meet your heroes"? People that say this shit have the wrong idols.
sorry to be "that guy"... but damn... I saw them at The Griffin, tiny ass place in Los Feliz. Henry Rollins was sitting on a stool near the front of the stage by himself. Just chilling. Wasn't one of those stage diving shows. Just a small place and it was loud as fuck.
@@Boston84 "that guy" meaning.. name dropping Rollin's and talking about some super small show that no one else got to see... like I'm bragging or something. Ya... "that guy".
I hear a lot of '60s influence on Osees records and that makes them so awesome, IMO! Some of their best songs are evolved '60s music. This man is a damn treasure!!
This man's trajectory is the greatest example of who I want to be and what I want to do as an artist. He's the most influential figure of my time ...not to mention the dudes a gentleman and delight to meet in person.
I am so happy for Thee OhSees success! ✌💜😊🙏😷 They totally deserve it! I miss Brigid harmonizing with John. I love John's attitude about the future! I totally feel the same way. I'm looking forward to going to gigs again!
I lived in a house full of musicians/bands in s.f. in 2002 and they all talked trash about john. I never understood why they didn’t like him and not one of those roommates made it. Go John!
Such a cool, relaxed guy- nothing like the pure madness that he unleashes on stage. And you can see he's an intelligent, knowledgeable person too. Thanks for uploading this!
i know everybody has nothing but good things to say about Dwyer, but man, he really just might be the most pure and honest man in the whole modern independent rock world. slowly but surely built his music career from the ground up, runs his own label, still constantly puts out records, still loves being on the road playing music... and on top of all of that, he comes off as extremely humble, never forgetting to be grateful for being able to get to do what he loves for a living. also... if he's a CAN fanatic, i fucking need to know if he has an original Monster Movie.
John just seems like such a nice guy. My mate and his wife were passing a house in Oakland and Thee Oh Sees were rehearsing out back, invited them in, shared a smoke and Brigid hit on his wife.
I got to see them three times last year and it was worth it every time. I got a nice scar over my eye at their show in New Orleans. Ready for this virus to stop canceling all my shit so I can see them again.
The husband and wife cassette store was prob FAST FORWARD RECORDS & TAPES in PROVIDENCE, RI, which turned me on to so much great stuff in my youth. Great interview.
The subtlety of Dwyer's rhythm guitar work (dig those B chord variations in "Mega-Feast") actually does sound like something that would cut its teeth on 70s Malcolm Young.
This awesome Hi john great to know you are playing man, I was so happy whatching you on ere last night I said yo my friend I know him hes a friend, good on yah john excellent work, stay safe my friend & hopefully when this ended, I see yah doing a show, you have awesome parents, respect to that, cheers, Ali, Boston, 🤟🏴🤟
You’re in for a joyous ride. I’ve got all Of his work on vinyl minus a few old and rare albums and dog poison from his newer gigs. He’s brilliant and just keeps getting better. Don’t forget to tap into his Damaged Bug and Bent Arcana both top notch works
His girlfriend works for JPL? Jet propulsion labrotories wtf? my dad works for raytheon. And his whole family is from North Stonington and my cool uncle would take me to Providence a few times to score herb and stuff. I think Dwyer is like my cool uncle's cool friend that i never knew.
He's a super approachable, nice guy. Seen Oh sees live 4 times and he was very cool to me when I told him I loved his stuff. Always willing to sign kids albums too.
i find sb's career very interesting. i'm a bit like him. since i started making music i want to go on tour and show my music to people. covid of course makes a big dash through the bill but i will not give up and live my dream when the whole shit is over
I still think Kiss was a great starter band for me. I quickly outgrew them, but with their basic song structures and sound, they laid out a good musical foundation for me and I just branched out from there.
Why Macedonia and Serbia, and no Croatia?! :D Anyhow, such a huge respect for this guy. I envy true artist's lifestyle, not only because of benefits, but for being brave and believing in yourself
