These commercials aired on NBC on May 7th, 1979
1. NBC Monday Night At The Movies Intro: "Rollercoaster" (A 1977 disaster movie starring George Segal)
2. AMC Concord
3. Kentucky Fried Chicken (Amazing to post an ad for KFC that actually has Col. Sanders in it!)
4. Visa
5. Dial Roll-On Antiperspirant (With Kelly Harmon)
6. Ball Park Hot Dogs (3:25 hard to believe, but that's actually what a microwave oven looked like in 1979. More like a MACROwave!)
7. General Electric Food Processor
8. Bufferin (Bufferin ends the sufferin')
9. Vanish Toilet Bowl Cleaner (I wish I had been alive back then to see the iconic Vanish Toilet Bowl Cleaner Van in person, but alas...)
10. NBC Monday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
11. NBC News Update
a. Organized crime and Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa may have been behind Kennedy assassination (Or...Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, as all of the available evidence points to)
b. Raymond Lee Harvey arraigned for conspiring to kill President Carter (I guess we just need to keep tabs on anyone with the name Lee Harvey)
c. Gasoline Lines (A direct result of the 1978-79 Iranian Revolution, which destabilized world oil markets and caused the price of oil to nearly double)
d. Americans want to see R-rated movies on TV per TV Guide Poll
12. Ritz Crackers (With Andy Griffith)
13. Promo for "Greatest Heroes Of The Bible" (An anthology TV series depicting stories from the Old Testament that ran for one season)
14. Promo for "Hizzonner" (A short-lived sitcom starring David Huddleston, who was also executive producer. He is probably best known for his role as "The Big Lebowski")
15. Aquafresh Toothpaste (This commercial is so low budget that they actually chroma keyed them into a photo of a drugstore instead of building a set)
16. Stanley Garage Door Opener (7:24 This guy won probably every single David Niven lookalike contest that he entered)
17. KNBC News Bumper
18. NBC Monday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
19. Aim Toothpaste
20. Signal Mouthwash
21. 1979 Ford Wagons (Given the earlier story about gas lines, it's easy to see why enormous gas-guzzling station wagons like this soon went out of style. American auto manufacturers took several years to adapt, causing consumers to buy smaller, more fuel-efficient foreign cars and captive imports)
22. Lowenbrau
23. Promo for "Real People"
24. Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats (In what world are these "mini"?)
25. Kraft Parkay Margarine
26. Glass Plus
27. Visine Eye Drops
28. Aquafresh Toothpaste (At least they could afford an actual shelf to put behind them for this one)
29. Honda Civic 1200 Sedan (With the voice of Burgess Meredith)
30. Schlitz Light Beer (With George Burns)
31. Best Foods Mayonnaise
32. NBC Monday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
33. Promo for "Chevy Chase National Humor Test" (Can be seen here: • Chevy Chase - National... )

My grandfather worked for GE for almost 40 years, retiring in 1989. We had that exact GE food processor when I was young.

4:50 - Vanish impressed this crossing guard so much she abandoned her post. Not shown - The horrific carnage that resulted when she was lured away by Vanish’s toilet bowl cleaning power.

"Rollercoaster" became famous for using the film gimmick "Sensurround" where low-frequency subwoofers were used in theaters to accentuate the rumbling of the coaster

Dial Roll On Antiperspirant- Seeing Kelly Harmon sit on the word DIAL throughout this commercial makes me wonder how comfortable it was to sit on something made out of plastic like that. Ball Park Hot Dogs- I like how they exaggerate how big these hot dogs get when you cook them by having them leave dents in the walls.

In 1979 I was six years old what I would do to go back even just 20 years but if you’re reading this don’t waste a single second this life of ours is more like a blip in time

The two parks that were used in Virginia for Rollercoaster were Kings Dominion which had only been opened fully for two years at that time. The other one was Ocean View Amusement Park which was torn down and they destroyed the coaster at that park for the movie The Death of Ocean View Park. The coaster at that park was so well built that they tried to destroy it with explosives twice and it wouldn't come down.

I also want to see the Van-Ish Van now too! Funny how that "light" beer has more calories in eight states!

That was one of specials that Chevy did to leave SNL, as NBC was anxious to get him into primetime. Something like $1 million for 3 specials and they gave him a Porsche.

Is this a first. Two different decades closing in on milestone volumes almost at the same time? The 90s is near vol 500 while the 70s is close to vol 100.

The David Niven looking guy in the Stanly Garage Door Opener commercial, is Danny Wells a.k.a. Luigi from the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

My grandfather had a white Fairmont station wagon with maroon vinyl seats. When he installed his Sparkomatic, he was playing ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn tapes. Yes, he was "too old" for that music. lol Now, let's smoke some Raleighs so we can save up these coupons for a new toaster.

As someone who loves traveling internationally, I love seeing commercials like the Visa ad featured here (2:20). Although this early 80s MasterCard ad summarizes this the best- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FnNq-UGhVrc.htmlsi=fUe-ku1o8dhZnodS.

I think it was also on this channel and probably an old upload of 70's commercials (in the 2010's), that I curiously asked why Americans had cars that looked soooo long compared to todays cars. Of course, I'm not American so I wasn't familiar seeing "long cars" in my Asian country. Then someone replied that [indeed] the change of size of American cars had something to do with gas prices

From the 50's to 70's cars were not designed with fuel efficiency or aerodynamics in mind, as gas was cheap and plentiful and prices had more or less remained stagnant averaging at around 30-35 cents a gallon for a 20 year period. Having a long car was basically a status symbol and associated with luxury brands such as Cadillac. By the end of the 70's due to instability in the world oil market, the price of gas had more than tripled. www.titlemax.com/discovery-center/average-gas-prices-through-history/

Barbara really looked and sounded like she could be Sandra's daughter. They should have cast/wrote her in on Bewitched as the Kravitz daughter.

The back of those Ford station wagons: "Mom! Make Chris stop making faces at me! Mom! make Jennifer stop being a brat. Both of you stop or we're not going to Malibu Grand Prix tomorrow. Nooo Mom."

What you're looking at is something to do with the metal trim, possibly just a reflection. No fabric on that car...the "landau roof" they mention in the ad was a vinyl hardtop.

Rollercoaster-good film..missed opportunity to not have the Ohio Players song on the soundtrack Ball Park Hot Dogs-nowadays they don't have whatever it is that makes them"plump" Greatest Heroes Of The Bible-if only this had led to a cinematic universe.. Lowenbrau-he might also need some antacid after eating that steak Real People-Sarah should be glad that guy wasn't really a vampire..btw that Hanging By A Thread movie(another disaster film) is definitely not for people who have a fear of heights Kraft Parkay Margarine-don't have those bowls out around guests..they may think you're crazy if you say they talk Visine Eye Drops-with Morgan Brittany Best Foods Mayonnaise-the Big H Burger Sauce a.k.a"we have the Big Mac special sauce at home" Chevy Chase National Humor Test-winners receive a lifetime supply of painkillers for when they want to imitate all the times he fell down stairs
