Now it would be "Damn, they're watching RU-vid" and don't need a licence - although the detector van was a myth. Anyway these nonces would rather be peeping.
@Nigel 61 yeah what they are doing is BS, but if you learn how receivers work in general it is possible to at the very least (especially in a 70s TV) see what channel a set is tuned to by detecting what frequency the detector and tuner are oscillating at. Like I said - read about tempest - your electronics are emitting all kinds of interesting information.
let's back up a minute...... even in the 70s columbo wasn't on bbc..... it was on an advert channel...... so yeah, no license required lol........ but i still can't believe the actual vans they used to have.... 1 of them looked like an RAF nimrod with the big snout haha!
@@1harryrobertthe IF oscillators are just used to convert the signal as the TV is a receiver in the same way a radio is. Even if there was any output it would be impossible to detect. Just think of the impracticalities of trying to detect a signal at distance in adjacent properties, HMO’s, blocks of flats etc. And then there’s the fact of how they would be able to tell which channel is being viewed (as they stated in that old time advertisement). They made the claim the technology existed in the old advertisement so they should be able to explain the technology in detail.
Haha, yeah. Fancy a country existing where people are forced to pay £160 per year to be continually tricked and lied to by a bunch of bourgeois libtards. Only in the uk could you find such insanity.
These PSA/adverts were a REALLY stupid idea in my opinion. The TV License, though not perfect, is a fairly decent system. But people turned on it because of the needlessly antagonistic Detector Van adverts, which were all total bollocks anyway.
Private Account You dont need a licence in order to own or use a tv in the uk. You need a licence if you watch or record television programmes as theyre being broadcast. The BBC are losing the plot. On their website it actually states that, "you could still need a tv licence if you dont have a tv." Theyre crazy.
