I've been dealing with cameras for the past 50 years and Tony does a great job explaining the features and function of the70D. This is an excellent training tutorial.
Thank you from a genuine newbie. This is my first DSLR camera. Thank you for calming my overwhelming sense of, "My God, what have I done!". I loved your relaxing style of teaching, with confidence, and genuine humor. I will be looking for your book. Thank you for the effort of producing a quality tutorial for those of us who are nervously venturing into this world of photography. I went to the video store thinking I was buying a paintbrush. I now realize I have purchased the whole palette, every brush, and gallons of paint, all in one package. Thanks again.
I wish you would do ALL the 'How to' videos on the web! Clear speech, no "uuuh's" between every third word and the video quality is also very professional. Great production!
flwolf2000 Yeah, I noticed that too. He is articulate, and no thinking-pauses of "uh, um". He gets to the information swiftly with no unnecessary extra "pop", or "bubbly" narration.
As relative newcomer who has had a Canon 70D for about a year, I've learned more from this excellent video in 40 minutes than from a plethora of other sources. Excellent video. many thanks Tony.
I am a complete photo newbie and recently got a Canon 70D for my birthday. I have been sifting through the internet for a month, trying to find a tutorial video that made any amount of sense. You, sir, are a godsend. I will be buying all your books. Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!!!!!
This has got to be THE best tutorial I've seen so far. Wish you covered just a little more, but I have learned so much just by watching this! I upgraded from the T3 to the 70D. Although my pictures have improved greatly, I'm not quite the photographer yet. There's still lots to learn I'm sure. Thank you Tony, I appreciate you taking the time to teach us. Btw, I did buy your book, Stunning Digital Photography, and I'm looking forward to reading it very soon. Thanks again!
Hi Tony, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your free content. Seeing your videos helped me: 1. Have confidence to buy my Canon70d 2. Learn more about photography, aperture, lenses etc 3. Take way better photos to the point where random people on Facebook were liking it. I ended up buying your book and it is phenomenal, it's so clear and concise. You're literally my reference point for anything photography related! Keep up the fantastic work sir!
I'll admit, I tried this video when I first got my 70D, and it didn't really do much for me. Mostly because it was a lot to take on all at once. And, without proper context, I didn't really get what was being said. But I've had my camera for a couple of months now, and now that this all means something to me, this became the best, and most informative video I've found to help me go from auto mode to manual. I can't thank you enough. And if you're watching this video early in your camera's life, and it's just not clicking with you, stop watching, and go play with your camera. Find out how great and limited auto mode is. Doing that will provide you with context. Then come back. This video will make much more sense, and teach you the basics of getting a lot from your DSLR for very little effort. Seriously, this video has re-energized me. I can't wait to REALLY start playing with my camera. I finally feel like I'll actually be practicing PHOTOGRAPHING, rather than just taking pictures. Cheers!
Omg I can't say how helpful this video was!! I recently bought 70d and I've never used dslr in my life. I've bought a few books but they were rather hard! I'm also going on my holiday soon and I was afraid that I'm not even get use out of my camera properly. Thank u so much!!!!!
I have 70D and I know camera by heart and I didnt noticed you had a tutorial for this!! This brought back memories when I first got this because it was my first ever DSLR. I knew you are like the coolest photographer ever the moment I searched and result popped you first. Im sooooo subscribing you and gonna grab your book when I get a chance. Keep up an awesome work!!!
Truly the best video I found for learning this camera. AND it was my first DSLR. It could not have been easier to understand and follow along. Use the pause button when you need it. Thanks for the video and I'm glad it seems like I made a good choice for my first DSLR. I use it mostly for video though but I wanted to learn all I can about it and this covered all the main things you need to know.
Hi Tony, your videos are fantastic. It has been many years since I have done photography. I was self taught with B&W and had all the Ilford setup in my mothers laudnry. Muching around with all the developers, stop fluids etc. Trial and error was the best learning curve. I just want to say your videos are great, I am getting back into my photograpy and enjoy every video you publish. Keep up the great work I look forward every time for the next release. Thanks for helping me find my spark in the art again.
I am new to photography and have read half a dozen books on the subject. Yours is by far the best! You go in to such intricate detail and cover practically EVERYTHING. The amazing photographs and videos that you use to help explain each point really set your book above all of the rest. Keep up the amazing work! I will recommend your book to anyone I know who shows interest in photography.
Thanks for this very helpful video, Tony. Although I've had my 70D since September 2013, your instructions and tips made me really appreciate this old workhorse. With all of the "latest and greatest" coming on stream, it's nice to know that the 70D is still considered up to the challenge of high quality work.
Many thanks Tony I have had my 70D about 6 months and watched endless videos about all its function. Watching your video now everything has just dropped into place magic brilliant video. Have your Lightroom and SDP book but slightly afraid to p[ost anything many thanks again
I can't tell you how ecstatic I was to discover you. I will be buying your book for refreshers and new techniques. Your videos are amazing and incredibly informative. Thank you!
Hi Sir Tony, I am Daniel Vizmanos from the Philippines. I just want to tell that you’re just an amazing teacher. All you say were very clear and understandable. You are the best!
Well done Mister Northrup! Getting the proverbial ball rolling is over half the battle. You do it so well and are without a doubt THE BEST when it comes to "EASY TO WATCH AND LISTEN TO" videos. This is a major feat as I have found many others are unable to speak and/or show examples and do so in a manner EASY to follow. I see folks taking advantage of the TIME and EFFORT you put into the various instructional / informational videos you publish AT NO COST to viewers. Yet, someone always gripes about the very mention of "books / videos" that available to PURCHASE! It befuddles me WHY some folks gladly take advantage of the "NO COST" information, yet balk at INVESTING MONEY in their continued education. It is as if they are saying, "FREE IS FOR ME" and appearing insulted at any mention of "AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT..."! No logic from where I stand - none at all.
I have also ordered your book. Thanks for unlocking the world of photography. You have made it so much fun and I just can't wait to get out there and put everything I have learnt into practice. Sara
Hi Tony, I often use Bulb mode in live view. You tap the screen to start the exposure and a counter appears to measure the time. When done exposing you tap the screen again, this way there is no need to hold down the shutter release button and you also don't need a timer.
Thanks for the video. I'm waiting for my 70D to show up, and this was a great help. I'm going to check out your book now. The description with the links and table of contents with time reference is also very helpful. Saving this video.
I have learned to understand my camera with this tutorial, since I have been struggling for over 2 months with my freaking Canon 70D. I will buy the book . All the other tutorials suck. Thanks.
Great video tutorial! I have a Canon EOS 80d and I have learned a lot from your videos. I have a college degree, but your video surpassed the instruction I got in a classroom environment. Thank you!
Thanks Tony. I'm a seasoned Olympus user but a friend recently asked me to help him to understand his Canon 70D which he bought five years ago and has never used. I'll refer him to your channel after I have run through the basics. Will also recommend your books :)
I just got my new canon 70d today and yes I am a beginner starting off. I am looking forward to learning more about the camera and try to take great pictures...Thank you for sharing your professional knowledges and expertise in photography especially on the Canon 70d camera. God bless!
I have had my camera for over a year but now that I have just recently retired, i will start using it a lot more and this video has really helped me to understand the 70d much more thanks ,now I have to find your video about External flashes
I have canon 70d with 18-135 lens. I found the video really useful.. the way you talk is really easy to understand. thanks a lot for spending your time to teach us !! I loved your channel.
After an 8yr Hiatus I finally got my MoJo back for photography so I decided to do pics again. Just received my new canon 70d. Your video was very helpful. Cant wait to use it this Saturday. I will be looking for ur classes soon, and I will be buying ur books....once again thanks for the tips
I've been using my 70D for a while, but this video was tremendously helpful for me since I'm always looking for a better understanding of the equipment I use. Great video!
Fantastic stuff Tony! I've been out of photography and videography for almost 25 years....Just picked up a 70D and wow a lot of catching up to do. Your tutorial just nailed it. Thanks!
Hi Tony. I am amaze how clear you presented the 70D overview. It is really very impressive. Thank you for help us out here. Will happily buy your books.
thank u so much for this tutorial. it helps me so much. i used to be a suicidal person but when i saw your tutorial, then i got suddenly happy :) but in all seriousness, this helped a lot
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Based on your other review videos, I just bought a 70D + 18-135 STM + 55-250 STM from the Canon store (all refurbished) for about $1,000, and they are in immaculate condition. I also grabbed the 50mm prime from Adorama for $125. Now to buy your book so I can really learn the ins & outs. I used to have a Canon EOS Elan film camera, but could never afford to experiment, development costs were too much. Will be much easier with digital, just delete mistakes.
wow man hats off, you really solve my problem. i purchased this camera for almost 3 months and keep juggling over its settings and how to use those special AV, TV, M, B modes.... thanks dude..
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Just got my new 70D delivered on Monday; got it with a new Canon EFS 18-135 STM. This is replacing my old Rebel XTi. This saves me hours and hours of trying to pore through the manual to try and learn the new features. Plus, the tips and tricks were indispensable. Can't wait to put my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens on it to see what it can do! The sun hasn't been out here for days. Will be getting your book really soon. I'm going to get the Kindle version so I can always have it with me!
I just wanted to sincerely thank you for this video, Tony. I was desperately looking all over the web for a proper tutorial because the manual sucks big time in terms of teaching how to master the 70D. By the way, I have my 70D next to me and it is HUGE compared to the one in this video, maybe it's my small hands!
Hey, this was just what I needed. I have had my Canon 70D for about 6 monthsand only have been using Auto…lol…and I had no idea how to shoot video!… Your explanations were clear and easy to follow….I am going strait to Amazon to grab your book. Thanks so much!
Tony Northrup I've watched hundreds of videos on the 70D and else's in general. I have been shooting my videos in auto because Iso, shutter speed, and aperture is really complicated to understand for any beginner. You made it simple to understand. Thank you
Hi Tony just watched your tutorial on the 70d I found it to be excellent, detailed and told in a way I can understand being very much new to understanding what you can do with your camera.. Thank you so much David (My new 70D arrives today fingers crossed!)
you two are a perfect pair. love your teaching and you make learning so much easier. i greatly appreciate both of you and thank you for all your tutorials :)
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. It showed me everything I missed reading the Canon manual. I'm finally switching over from film to digital. This video, and many of your other videos, are just making the transition so much easier for me. Keep up the great work! I can't imagine what my learning curve would be like without your videos. Love your books, too.
Thanks Tony for this great video! Even after reading books/articles and watching a lot of videos about my 70D, I've learned some new things from this video. Also referring to your book for more details, which I also own, helps a lot.
I am new to your channel and new to digital photography in general but have really learned quite a bit in a short time. I've subscribed and have found the videos that you and Chelsea have posted to be extremely well done and informative! I am learning my Canon 70D inside and out and with tutorials such as your's my photographs have greatly improved in just a matter of weeks.
Enjoy this video very much. Love how he is relaxed and has great pacing and definitely knows the material he is talking about. Some other videos on this topic are painful but I learned a lot! Cant wait to apply what I am learning for Iceland.
This was a very short up-to-date video I ever saw. The main part was at the end about the Flash where I was going to spend 579/- bucks for Canon 600ex II rt. I just ordered my 70D which is refurnished. The video is amazing.
Great tutorial I just upgrade from a 50D to a 70 D ... And you make it really easy to understand ... I will sure look more of your tutorial and might get your book too . Thank for the help :)
Purchased a Canon 70D to replace an original Canon Rebel. Very good video but I will need to watch again. I had already bought your Light Room 5 training book and the software. Best lens I have purchased is a Tokina 11-16mm wide angle. Works great for my real estate listings.
Tusen takk for god forklaring. Hilsen Inger Karin
i was looking for 70d tutorial because finally i bought my first DSLR canon 70d with 17-55 f/2.8 but i dont know how to use it and im trying each menu watching this video! thank you!
You've answered so many of my questions! I was getting really worried about my camera not focusing or the new lens I bought but it was just the little knob next to the view finder (can't remember more than dio...) thank you for a great tutorial/review!
I wanted to assign my Back Button Focus option but struggled. Then watched this video and I am now sorted, Thank you. My pal uses BBF as well and we find it great for the birds we photograph.
Thank you Tony for this very informative video. I am a beginner in Photography and your video certainly makes it easy to understand the camera. looking forward to more great and informative videos. Cheers Deet
Thanks Tony! Your video just clears many confusion about my 70D! no i am feeling little bit more confident! Hope to get your book in a short period of time
I love your videos you have helped me so much at understanding my new 70D as I am new at Photography I can't wait to get your book. Thank you so much for all the help.
Fantastic video, thanks! I was wondering about something. You mentioned that the HDMI port could be used for professional video recording. That's really the main reason I bought the Canon 70 D. However, I can't seem to get clean video out of the HDMI port. There is always some sort of camera information or marker in the frame. Any hints on how to do that?
