In this video we show you how to tear down a 79cc Predator engine, remove the governor and install the ARC billet flywheel. We show how to start reassembly of your engine along with setting the valve lash.

Forgot to mention, we torque the flywheel nut to 30 ft-lbs. Not sure if ARC will provide a different recommendation once they make these flywheels available however we've been using 30 ft-lbs without issue.

AGK racing : 30 - 45# Lbs torque will be ok..any workshop manual with an alloy flywheel will be another source to confirm.Cheers Trev NZ

I Just got done building a 79cc for a mini bike .. clocked at 46mph with stock gearing on a motovox80 minibike .

Dang, that's is a respectable top speed for the 79cc. How is the low end torque with the gearing you have?

@@agkracing140 i have a stock 79cc with only a air filter adapter and a 80 jet and filter vent from your website, with a 54 tooth rear sprocket i clocked at 48 it was i believe, low end is pretty decent too, alot better then it was with a stock filter and jet

@@trevinskiking2165 how do you get the torque converter to spin that high? I'm having trouble getting mine up in rpm, mostly because I'm a fat idiot but more likely that I'm not achieving adequate rpm under load (again fat idiot on board). I'm going to try aluminum weights and a stock springs to get the engagement up to around 3k but I'm not sure if the motor will provide enough rotational force to hold it up there. I might not know all the lingo and terminology but I often ask for professional help and I don't hide that. If you have any advice beyond insulting me it would be appreciated and shared accordingly. I give credit where it is due for everything I get into.

FYI if you set valve lash before putting blower housing on you can see where TDC is from the magnet. There are 2 TDCs. You need the right one.

where would the magnet be when its at tdc at the coil right ? i ask this bcuz i have a 80cc motovox motor and i just removed the govenor

you missed a pretty basic step with the flywheel... you should always fit your flywheel without a key and put valve grinding compound on it. turn it around a few times till it's perfectly flush with the shaft and then install it with a key. also the 30foot pounds for the flywheel nut should be noted*

No he didn't, it's optional & if the FW taper is machined well,you don't.Your splitting hairs & sprouting parrot fashion what you heard from someone else.Theres better things to worry about - like pistonskirt to bore clearance.Trev NZ Have a good one.

@@trevinskiking2165 lol what? for a start no. I do that to every build on go-karts and 4 stroke bicycles... (PLUS THEY SAY RIGHT ON THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BILLET FLY WHEEL! MAKE SURE EACH SURFACE MATCHES WITH GRINDING COMPOUND BEFORE FINAL KEYED SEATING) then it has 6 steps on how to do this? Sorry kido but I have the same billet flywheel in my blue 4 stroke 78.5cc build. If you like me to send you a copy of the instructions the company provides I be more then happy to! Second I don't care how well you machine a billet fly wheel. The shafts are made in some shed in china half the time with slave labor, Not exactly highest qt.

You can alao punch out the governor gear and just use a self tap nut ......no need to remove crank

What do I need to add when I buy a cam from you? Do I need to put bigger springs to?

A set of 22lb valve springs (p/n 14212) will complement our cam. The 19mm carb (p/n 10590) would be great as well. Add some compression and you'll have a strong running 79cc Predator!

If I'm running a torque converter on a mini bike and probably never seeing 5k under a load I should be ok?

You would think so, but we can't say you'll definitely be okay. The stock parts, flywheels included, have variable tolerances, no two are identical. The magnet on the stock flywheel is attached with a sheet metal screw and epoxy. A magnet on one flywheel might fly off at 8000 rpm and another may fly off way before that.

Luck of the draw but at 5,000 rpm you should be pretty safe with a margin off safety built in over a cast Chinese Flywheel.T NZ

PS..to avoid confusion I was referring to Billet alloy flywheel over the stock one it comes with but I wouldn't take a stock one much over 5,000rpm under load.T NZ

@@trevinskiking2165 Nice! I just ordered another billet flywheel to be sure, I've heard of a guy using epoxy on the magnets but I'm actually concerned over the integrity of the metal itself. Yikes are they light on the casting! It's nuts when you hold the 79cc ARC flywheel in one hand and the stock unit in the other. Thanks again!

could i tap the top governor hole 1/8 npt and run a pulse fuel pump?

You could tap that hole for a hose barb and run a pulse pump off of it but you will get oil in the line which is annoying. That's why we prefer getting the pulse on the intake side such as putting the hose barb in our intake manifold.

Never installed a kickstarter. If you can buy and adapt a manual clutch, you can bump start your engine. Have you seen this manual clutch from 3D Motorsports? 3dmotorsport.net/

AGK, I know you're probably a lot better at this than I am but I'm gonna have to advise you to watch a couple of videos on this issue and you'll see there is a lot quicker and easier way. No offense, really!

We can remove or bypass the governor quicker but what our video shows is a complete and thorough governor removal. The quick way is not always the best way. We've removed plenty of governors without taking off the flywheel and going to the extent we went to here. The goal of the video was not remove the governor in the easiest or fastest way, just to show how we do it. We hope some of it will help someone who has questions about the process.

Depends on what we want, but yes. I remove the governor off mine without removing crankshaft or anything else. Uncomfortable but manageable.

I had no trouble removing my governor without a total teardown. 🤔😶 You just turn the governor's handle and pull up. So many other channels had no problem. Hmm....

There are various ways to go about it but not sure what you're talking about, "turn the governor's handle and pull up". Our video shows a complete governor removal which we feel is the cleanest way to do it. If you're leaving the governor gear inside the engine you run the risk of it coming apart at high rpm and destroying your engine.

The spacers for the coil and blower housing are about 1/4". Nor sure yet what ARC will supply once they finalize everything. We have a big batch of flywheels that should be here around Thursday 2/11/2021.
