The beauty of being able to adjust the lens is if your rangefinder goes out of alignment and you don’t have the funds to get it recalibrated. You can calibrate the lens with the chart to the out of calibration M camera.

That’s a really good point, I’ve never considered that before. Now that I think about it, I don’t know how I didn’t. Haha. Appreciate you sharing that!

Can't do that with an analog M obviously. Even worse, your lens might need alignment out of the box, you need to get it calibrated on a digital body.

100% had the same experience with these two lenses. The 28mm is fantastic and the 75mm is ok and only really useable adapted.

I own a 35mm 7artisan and using it on the SL, I had to adjust the focus, it takes 20min,and since I can nail it, really fun to use, thanks for showing us the new lenses

I love how KEH sells their item with : * Item pictured for illustrative purposes only, actual item not pictured. See ‘Notes’ next to grade for included items. What is the point of showing any picture than!? They are worse than those ebay sellers mark everything as MINT with funges inside the lens, atleast they show the actual item

Matt, good information. The 75mm Artisans lens is a bit softer on my M9 as compared with the sharpness of the 35mm Summicron; but I like the difference for a slightly different effect - a pleasant change. Calibration was not difficult and I do like the lens though the 35mm is my go-to everyday lens. Well done!

I have the 75mm and its just great on the rangefinder and glowy but beautiful wide open and very capable in the conventional sense from f2 ,brilliant lens in my view.

I don’t shoot on a leica, but use 7 Artisans lenses on Canon M and Fujifilm bodies. The build quality and performance of these lenses is far above the asking price ... Bang for buck / pound is excellent. I think Mattias Burling has some interesting views on the 7 Artisans lenses ( and TT Artisans .. same factory)

thanks for introducing those lenses. Somehow i have been avoiding non-leica glasses but 28mm looks really nice!!

Having owned multiple 7artisans lenses I find it almost impossible to get these perfectly calibrated on a film camera, even when using a digital Leica M to calibrate, that doesn’t necessarily transfer over to the film body. Wish 7art would make more f2 M lenses, which would help alleviate some issues with getting it calibrated.

i love the 28mm and really am frustrated by the 75mm. I had the same experience as you. However, the 28mm does something strange on my M-E: it causes the rangefinder to skip when focusing. it gets jammed up and then slips so that you’re not quite sure what you’re focused on. This only happens on the M-E though, as it worls fine on my M8 and M240. its because of this, however, that i dont feel confident putting it on my film M5. Great review Matt. thanks for the channel and videos.

I have the 7Artisans 23mm f/1.8 for Fuji X mount. Bad azz little lens. Sonnar design. Paid $69 for it new, when it was first released.

I have a 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 which I only use wide open on a digital camera. (I used it on my M6 and found it needed the focus adjusted, but I haven’t done that yet.). Anyway I think it is a great lens for a certain kind of black and white photography. I’ve used it occasionally for color, but the blooming can be an issue. But the ability to direct attention in the shot with extremely shallow focus in black and white is really nice. I also have the 35mm f2 but the angle of view on a 35mm just doesn’t really work for me so I don’t have much experience with this lens.

I wonder if the lens design is calibrated for the Leica M's sensor filter stack thickness? As you know, many wide angle lenses from the predigital times have issues with corner/edge smearing on mirrorless cameras. Makes you wonder.

Finally getting back to the USA this weekend and passing within 40 miles of you at one point on the trip, Matt. How about I send you a message and you can stand on the side of the I70 and wave. Maybe grab a picture with the M6; I would like that. No one has ever taken my picture with a Leica :) Another terrific video and I've been thinking about M4/3 versions of these lenses after watching Peter Forsgard and Jimmy Cheng (Red35) talking about them.

The 50mm artisan was my first lens on my m6. It took amazing shots. I moved on to voigtlander because I wanted something more wide at 35. The artisan was awesome. Very inexpensive for the quality you’re getting.

I just don't want to deal with calibrating them. Is that a big deal? ;)

It’s a bit of a shame about some of the results with the aperture opened up Even though they seem to look impressive at any price, why would you by a top camera and limit it with less than first class lenses, it’s like driving a Ferrari on cheap retread tyres All the very best

While a Zeiss/Contax lens is available for a couple of hundred pounds and perfectly usable on Leica Cameras (via adapter), these Mickey Mouse "So called lenses" worth absolutely nothing.

Dear Matt, I really love your content. However, this time I have to rant about it. Those lenses are an absolute disgrase. I am not talking about the image quality but only about their physical appearance. They easily can be mistaken as Leica lenses. The reason being is that they use the exact same colour scheme of Leica. Orange painted feet designation, red dot for mount line-up, Even de focal lenght designation is on the same spot. The lenese of TTartisan show similar features or go even a step further by using a near identical square font. I am not a Leica fanboy. I don't even own a Leica. However, Zeiss and Voigtländer have a own design. Why are the Chinese unable to come up with an owns design? Everything that do is steal from someone else. Would you drive a Mini or an inspired Chinese Mini? Would wear a fake Rolex? Would your wear fake sneakers with a misspelled brand name? Propably not. But when buying into a lens that looks like a Leica then everything is ok.
