I don't know if you'll see this Dr. Shereene, but I just want to let you know I appreciate how much you teach all of us about the health of our skin. You have a real impact on the lives of so many people. Our face is so important because it represents us in all social interactions, and you're making it easier for everyone to live their best lives with healthy beautiful looking skin. You are a blessing in this world, thank you for being you.
I have been able to go make up free when I want to because of you. Before listening to your advice and getting my skin to look better I was wearing so much caked on makeup. Thank you.
I love your contents, very informative. I hope you can do a video about allergens vs irritants (allergic vs irritant reactions), ingredients to be aware of and/or avoid.
I’ve always known that my first priority is to first do no harm. By that, I mean that I don’t use anything that contains ingredients that are allergens for me. I also have a list of ingredients that my skin doesn’t tolerate or can handle only on a limited basis. After that is addressed, then I have basic goals of treating dehydration and dryness that get worse as I age. Honestly, I’m happy if those issues are addressed, but I do use sunscreen everyday and a retinoid and a vitamin C product as frequently as my skin will tolerate them. In addition to not overdoing hyaluronic acid, I have to limit the amount of niacinamide in my routine. Like HA, it seems to be in everything.
Appreciate your efforts to open-access science, Dr Idriss. Been struggling with perioral hyperpigmentation for several years. Been using retinoids (e.g., adapalene 1%) every night for yrs and sunscreen during the day. Are chemical peels the only way to erase the shadow over the upper lip?
Thank you so much for this informative video. Love all your videos:) I see everyone talk about changing pillowcase which I understand is tedious. However, an alternative to that is to keep a hand towel on your pillow and change that towel everyday.
I would love to see a video on how to identify and choose which skin issue to focus on first. I never know ! Like should I do acne before hyperpigmentation, then I have more dark spots to treat? Or dark spots first, but more acne in the process? Hydration or acne treatments even tho they say hydration can help with acne!? Blackheads or white heads first!! It’s so difficult to just choose one, and in what order.
I was not aware that we were supposed to change our pillowcases so often! I have been struggling with breakouts on my cheeks so perhaps this explains it…
Can you give us a list of products for acne prone, sensitive ski that has cistyc acne on cheeks pretty often..im 40 and they are stubborn, and embarrassing,
What if you live in a European country where it rains half of the year or more? Not much sun yet your skin is dry from your age? What do you use? Sunscreen is rarely if ever used where I live as we dont have much sun. If ever for months. Great Britain is most always wet but my skin is dry. Please help. Your channel is amazing. Thank you so much.
This is so cool I just comment on another RU-vidr video that you can achieve better results focusing on one problem to save money and that I recommend Dr Shereene videos them I found this video 😊
I just don't believe i need sunscreen indoors everyday because I haven't worn it daily my entire life, and I'm your age and still get carded and told I look underage. I've never had any work done plus I'm irish and pale asf. I do wear it if I'm gonna be in the sun but most days I'm not. Also why is it that more people than ever are wearing sunscreen everyday but rates of skin cancer are increasing? Where's the evidence it's actually preventing skin cancer??
Hi Dr Idriss, What I would like to see for next topics: - best alternative for people who can’t tolerate retinol/retinal/tretinoin for antiaging purpose. I know you recon grow factor serum/cream like the ones from Skinmedica or Allies of skin. In Australia I can find in store the one from Allies of skin but is $301 and to buy this along with other skincare products every few months can be very costly. The one from Skinmedica is not available in Australia and is hard to find online (maybe Amazon) and is even more expensive then the other one plus shipping costs. I have very sensitive skin (prone to break out, sometimes in minutes because of some ingredients) and was very hard to build a skincare routine but finally I have one now (eye+face cream, one serum, a chemical exfoliant, a micellar water, a cleanser and sunscreen). - I would like to know if retinol (prescription or not) is so effective for anti aging why many people (skincare youtubers but not only) do botox and fillers along with in office treatments (laser etc.) Thank you for your wonderful content! :)
@@rose2dimples I was sure somebody will tell me about bakuchiol. :)) This ingredient did nothing for me. I have try a lot of skincare including “good stuff” from chemist warehouse. All I got was a face full of bumps or 0 hydration. I have a REAL sensitive skin, not like many people who can put almost anything on their face and say they have sensitive skin. Lol During my trial and error process my husband told me that my skin was perfect before I become interested in skincare.:)) I found an australian brand and they have a line for ultra sensitive skin. So I solved the problem with hydration and sun protection. All I need now is something to dimish my fine lines (forehead and around the eyes) and for firmness and elasticity, aka antiaging. Botox and fillers are out of question and I don’t have the budget for laser or other in office treatments. Thanks for trying to be helpful! XOXO
Dr. Thank you for constantly driving home the importance of sunscreen. I’ve stopped watching other well known RU-vidrs because they’re telling their viewers that they won’t wear sunscreen because it is harmful to the environment. While I respect them for caring about our planet, their rhetoric is irresponsible, uninformed, and very dangerous! Have a wonderful week!
But I bet that the same people buy tons of "crap" they don't need and use up lots of unnecessary resources, that is way more environmentally irresponsible than wearing sunscreen on a daily basis.🤦🤦🤦
@@anaalves3658..Good point and I bet those also have tons of money that are forever having in office procedures that most of us can’t afford or they’re not available in our country.. I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and most of those lasers and so on aren’t available here, I’m a new subscriber here and liking what this Dr has to say. Have a Great Week Ladies. ❤️❤️🇦🇺🐨🦘
Sunscreen isn't dangerous for environment. This was debunked like years ago, shortly after that stupid research came out, on which entire fad was based.
Dr.Idriss, if I use sunscreen on my neck, do I have to wash it out in the evening? I'm asking cause I only wear it on my face and use the double-cleansing method in the evening. However, I hate double-cleansing my neck and I can't take a shower every day (eczema, also don't sweat much). Should I skip sunscreen on my neck or just wash it off with a water-based cleanser?
I'm 53 and try to use tretinoin every second night. My skin is not irritated but peels around nose and mouth. Should I step back or go forward hoping this side effect will disappear? I know some people say to avoid the peri-oral area but I'm concerned about upper lip and naso-labial wrinkles.
1) not focusing your skincare routine on your skin's biggest issue 2) not listening to your skin 3) not adapting your skincare routine to your climate 4) using hyaluronic acid in too many steps of your skincare routine 5) over-exfolation 6) not changing your pillowcases regularly 7) getting laser treatments and not having a daily skincare routine 8) not wearing sunscreen everyday
I think a video on eye care would be awesome! Eg. What can and can't be placed on your eyelids + directly under your eyes, proper mascara removal, eyelash care, if regular moisturisers can be applied beyond the orbital bone, and also considerations for people with milia or are milia-prone. I feel like everything triggers my milia yet my eyelids and under eyes are dry and eczema prone 😅
literally i have so much milia and no clue what’s causing it 😢 and whenever i do my BPO/clindamyacin acne treatment combo, if any rubs near my eye area, the skin burns and stings.
@@amaggzz1207 Do NOT exfoliate the eye area. The skin there is far thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face. The exfoliating products that are in the mainstream market are meant to be used ONLY on the face, they're designed that way. Eye care is such a finnicky topic, but as a general rule, no products(other than ones that are specifically designed for eyes eg. Retinol Eye cream) other than maybe moisturisers and sunscreens should be placed on the undereye. Even gentle, hydrating tonics may have ingredients that are not suited to the under eye. Just rather be safe than sorry.
You are the first dr that I’ve seen who speaks of skincare and climate. I live in Southern New England and this hot summer I could not wear a moisturizer during the day only sunscreen as my skin is slightly oily. So thank you, now I don’t feel like I was breaking a skincare routine rule.
I can’t agree more!! I have oily skin and I moved from a hot, dry climate to a temperate, more humid climate about 6 months ago. I felt like I had to use all of these products. I only use a gel moisturizer after my Tretinoin/at night and my skin has never been better, even since living here.
I am 17 years old and I reapply sunscreen through out the day even if I am in the school all day including the winter at -20 degree Celsius. My classmates call me sunscreen girl and some laugh of me.
What a sensible person you are! If you are doing this at 17 you are en route to beautiful skin way into your older years. Very well done - your classmates will have leather looking skin in 20+ years and will envy you - trust me 😊
I did the same thing. I am really fair so I burn within 20 minutes. Got made fun of in jr high because I was so white-- this was the 80s when tanning beds became a big thing. Now I'm 51 and people have legit mistaken me for 30. All the girls who said I needed a tan have sun damage and wrinkles. HAHAHA, I win! :P (Yes I know I'm being petty. I don't care.)
Hello Skin Preserving Female! I'm a pioneer in using sunscreen. Due to sun allergy I'm applying spf30+ on my skin since the 90s. I'm 46 now and I can tell you it really paid off, because I don't have any wrinkles yet and my complexion is bright and glowy. I never use any make up, just skincare and spf. So keep up the good spirit, girl!!
Growing up in the '70s with acne galore, I was told, even back then, to frequently change my pillowcase for hygienic purposes -- glad to see so many decades later, that still holds true!
I was that person who thought more is better. First month of tretinoin with a lot of inflammation and my skin neck broken. Then I found your channel. I changed my routine, buffered my tretinoin, diluted my niacinamide, diminished Hyaluronic A creams, started to exfoliate with glycolic once a week, chose better ingredientes for my skin. Game changer, my skin is glowing.
Can you do a video on growth factor serums/ human and plant cell based serums? Which brands are best? Are they even proven to help with aging? What are the studies and do you recommend them?
Dear doctor Shereene, I am getting obsessed with your videos and feel like I'm being educated in this area, skin care, for the first time in my life, and I am 47...thank you❤
I would love to have you address how to care for the scalp. Your videos have helped me to curate a better skin care routine that has almost eliminated the brown sun damage spots on my face. Thank you!
I am 43. I found your channel doing a research on jowls. You explained why I don't try beauty products 1. i don't know what I'm trying to achieve and 2. I don't have money to waste products. So thank you for your time and videos
I love how practical and straight to the point your delivery is. The comparison of changing underwear and pillowcase was so funny. Thank you for your humor, offering so much value and your commitment in all you do. Blessings!
Hi dr idriss😍🥰 I have a dought can we layer actives like Tranexameic acid, kojic, AA with matrixyl 3000 and argerline peptides will that cancel out the peptides ❤ pls reply
I’m almost 59 years old and have struggled with dark circles beneath both eyes for as long as I can remember. I’ve spent countless thousands of dollars looking for some magical cure. I have enough concealers and color correctors to supply your subscribers…. Basically, the more I do, the worse it looks and I look older than when I started. I worked for many years as a makeup artist for Chanel and yet nothing I know or have tried seems to work. It’s very embarrassing and one of my insecurities. I have very fair skin which makes the black circles underneath my eyes so noticeable that I look sickly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I absolutely love your videos!❤
it depends on the type of dark circles, is it really pigmentation, veins, or shadow from your bone structure. mine is prominent veins it's hard to fix that without treatment like sclerotherapy, laser, etc. but i like my dark circles so i let them be
@@rose2dimples Thank you for responding! I’ve read about this procedure but never spoken to anyone about how they felt about it afterwards! I’m so happy you’re pleased with your results and appreciate you saying so;) ❤️
Definitely right about switching up your skincare routine when the seasons change or based on your overall climate. Im 56 with mature, dry skin living in the state with the longest winters (Alaska). Because it can get so cold, the air is very dry and it used to kill my skin until I started on a dedicated skincare routine last November. I listened to my skin just as you said. This year while we have not quite transitioned to full-blown winter we are right on the cusp so my routine reflects that. Layering hydrating, nourishing products alongside various actives and use of glycolic acid (thanks to you on that one) AS WELL as following your advice about treating your décolletage as part of the same cosmetic unit as your face has been a game changer for me.
Beyond happy to learn each week a new thing about skincare ❤ hopefully u do a routine for those with HYPERPIGMENTATION post inflammatory acne with products recommendation . Thank u sherine ❤
@dreamerloover ~ I had hyperpigmentation issues from acne, and also from a bad car accident, ( I was ejected from my car and into a water filled embankment, then my car landed on top of me, pinning me for over 10 hours until someone discovered me.) During those 10 hours, I was completely covered in fire ants, and they embedded themselves into my skin. Needless to say, I have hyperpigmentation spots mostly on the right side of my body. The acne white spots eventually went away, and I’ve noticed that since my accident in 2015, the hyperpigmentation spots from the ants have slowly gotten better. I’ve been told by several estheticians and dermatologists that you can’t get rid of them. I’ve found, (other than makeup,) that tanning lotion or sprays works best at minimizing the stark contrast. I’ve considered having the ones on my arms, neck, stomach and chest tattooed to match my natural skin color, because I’m super insecure about them, especially when people are rude and ask, “Why do you have all those white spots.” So, if I were you, I’d try tanning lotion or spray to help camouflage them, or consider tattooing them to match your natural skin color. I hope this helps. 🫶🏼
With all the fancy solutions, the absolute best results I get with straight arnica oil. Same when I start to feel a breakout. A drop of arnica oil on the spot gives me the best and most immediate results. Good luck.
@@sarahrosen4985 ~ Does the arnica oil make the white spots/hyperpigmentation go away, or help accelerate the process of getting pigment back into those areas?
Love to watch your videos. I would love to hear your take on PAVISE sunscreen that works as a serum, moisturizer and sunscreen that doesn't need reapplication. It was developed over 5 years by a chemist. Thank you
could you please do a video that showcases skincare that does NOT support genocide?? people need to see that they have options without supporting l'oreal, P&G, etc!! please use your voice!! 🍉🍉🍉
I bought cheap satin pillowcases off of amazon so I can change my pillow cases ever second day. Not only did I see a HUGE DIFFERENCE in my acne but my hair felt better too! I also change my hand towel in my bathroom every second day as well and try to only use it for my hands, NOT MY FACE. I found cheap disposable towels (that are so big u can cut in half) and those are the only things I use to dry my face. Also if I’m having any issues with my face I got “back to basics “. One face wash, one active & one moisturizer. That way I can add one at a time the things I want to try to fix any problems that have arisen. Thanks Dr. Idriss for all your advice! Especially the vanicream vitamin c and diaper rash cream. Made a gigantic difference to my skin. Thank u so so much!!🩷🙏
You can buy pillow cases cheap at the end of back to school season and after Xmas. I was able to get affordable matching sheets and pillowcases, but honestly I don't care, I just want clean bedding as often as possible several times a week.
Hello, Can you tell us about brand cosmetics AHAVA ? Generally made from the Dead Sea in the West Bank in Israel. I use Dead Sea Salt soap bar and my acne is GONE😊 You are great, All the Best.
I made the mistake with acid stacking and I didn’t even realize what was happening until it was too late. I also did the retinA every day for like 3 weeks and burnt my face off while my husband watched in horror lol. I’ve corrected my errors now 😂
Hi Dr ! Idea for new you tube: could you do one for Ulthera? What to expect, which areas of face, before and after photos, how much of a difference does it make, other procedures that might compliment it… etc
Sorry, another question! Do you recommend using moistirisers with exfoliating acids? In this video you mention not to be using everything and A derm once told me not to... She worded it like this... Why are you trying to stick the dead flakey skin to your face that youve just peeled away with the exfoliators? It does kind of make sense 🤔
🌸Hi I just seeing your videos last and I am hook to your channel.I heard time and again that women of color don't need to worry about sunsucreen as much because we are dark.I love a video on that.please?🌸
Of course I wait until my very late 30's and come into my 40's during lockdown to start really paying attention to my skin. Oi. I've been slowly working my way thru your videos but I haven't come across any (so far) that address wearing a bi/cpap mask all night? my chin has always been ground zero for acne and I'm going bonkers, especially since I can't wash the part that fully attaches to my face and only get one per month. Help? Thoughts? Many thanks!
Seriously, you have to hide in the bathroom and whisper? Why can’t your husband and whoever is looking after the kids respect your boundaries? Put a sign up on your bedroom door saying you are recording a video, please do not disturb. It’s literally 30 minutes.
So… i live in Denver, which is at 5280 ft but whenever i go above 10,000 ft such as Breckenridge, Vail, etc my face blows up! Like red, burning fire. Why us that and how do i prevent that and manage it?
Hi, Dr. prescribed Tretinoin and hydroquinone. I used them for a while, and now my skin tone has darkened significantly. It appears as though I have a tan on the front part of my face, extending from slightly above my eyebrows. It has been over a year, but my skin color hasn't returned to its original tone. Additionally, hydroquinone caused swelling and redness on my upper cheeks, so I've stopped using it. Now, all I want is to go back to my original skin tone. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks?
What if you never really have sun on your face ...like almost ever? And if i do its the time when i walk to my car & thats like 5-10 seconds of sun a day. So i just dont wear sunscreen unless ill be laying outside. What are your thoughts on this? Because i am always indoors for work. But i completely understand the importance of sunscreen. Can i still get affected by UV light from indoor light? Somebody told me that could cause hyperpigmentation and I was confused by that thought. Id like to know your thoughts....
Hi Doctor, I want to ask whether the UV index is a reliable benchmark? Because from where I live, especially during winter, the day time is short. The only time I get exposure to sun is early in the morning, when I walk to the metro station, which is about less than 15 minutes. By the time I leave the office, it’s already dark. And half of the time, it will be rainy or cloudy, so normally the UV index on my phone says it’s 0 or 1. I’m wondering in these situations, do I still need to put on sunscreen for the 15 mins sun exposure?
Hi, i have an acne-prone blemished combination skin. I'll keep it short. I don't use Make-up usually as im trying to treat my skin however there are times when i have to wear make-up for gatherings/party so for those days how do i double cleanse my skin? I was thinking to do double cleansing in this way: 1st step i would use a cleaning balm and for the 2nd step can i just use the Cetaphil gentle clear Complexion-clearing BPO Acne cleaser or do i have to follow with a more gentler cleanser like Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser ? And if i do have to use a more gentle cleanser then do i still have to follow with an acne cleanser or am i good to go? Please let me know whats best for me.
Ok so Im a new subscriber to your lovely channel, I appreciate your free advise very very much Doc (Im saying this because I know I had to pay for your certified advise in real life).
Hi!!! I have a huge question, can you mix/layer Peptides with AHA/BHA? I would love to exfoliate at night and then use my peptide serum, but i read somewhere that you shouldnt mix them together?
Can you please talk about Sodium Arscorbyl phosphate aka vitamin C. I am using face wash that feels really gentle that has it. Does not dry out skin. Leaves skin soft.
You are so lovely Shereene....thank you for all you share on here and on your Instagram profile. Shame we cannot purchase your line of products in Luxembourg.
If you never had a problem - and all the things you put on your face now made a problem? How do one back out? Fear of missing out just got a 45 yo face…
Is it true that chemical spf must be applied onto bare skin without any serums or products underneath? Ive heard a few estheticians on TikTok say this. And if I google it then it tells me to apply to completely bare skin as well. Is that true?
I keep seeing skin care products containing oat. My question is if I am allergic to oats when I eat them, would I have have problems with it in skincare?
Hello Dr. Idriss, I would like to know what you think about fruits masks. I’m not talking about cosmetics with fruits extracts in it but about fresh fruits mixed in a blender (a smoothie or purée) put directly on the skin. Does it have any benefits ? Does the skin absorb the nutrients ?
Hi I wanted to know your thoughts on the youth to the people superberry hydrate and glow mask I am 52 years old have oily skin but dehydrated so I am looking for a good moisturizer to really plump and hydrate skin. I do drink a lot of water and moisturize day and night
Hey could you help me , i have a very oil skin , sebum is everywhere on my face especially my nose i can literally make a spoon full of mayonnaise consistent sebum out of my face , and the hole it came from getting larger and larger sometimes it is almost rice size , i tried some moisturizer, and salicylic acid cleanser but it didn't help it help with deep large painful acne though i have never have it after using it .
Bonjour Dre Idriss, j'aimerais avoir des conseils de soin pour la région péri-orale. Vous nous dites d'éviter la région avec certain produit. Mais je fais quoi ? J'adore vos vidéos. Bonne journée !
for now i can understand what is listen to your skin it is, many influencer skincare say listen to your skin but they dont explain it and i dont understand what is that mean, and finally this angel come on my page and explain about it🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
