The Ni was especially relatable (no surprise). My reaction as an INTJ tends to be 1. Snap. Um. Give them privacy? Yeah, give them privacy. That's what I'd want. I will leave / turn away and "forget" I ever saw them crying. 2. Oh, they have purposefully chosen not to hide and instead to share the tears/feelings. I feel ill equipped, but I care about them, so mission accepted. What is our goal here? To stop the crying or to validate it? I'd better just ask what they need. Also, I should locate Kleenex and make sure they're hydrated. If there is anyone else around, I will glare them away. 3a. We've decided that dwelling on it is NOT helpful for them. Great. Identifying appropriate distraction now. 3b. They just need to share the feelings. Okay. Nod, sympathetic noises, offer tea, try not to join tears. Umm... hug? Yeah, my arms are responding to some natural hugging instinct, and media supports that instinct, so I should offer a hug. 3c. They are open to solutions to the source of tears. Thank heavens. Here is what went wrong, and here is how to fix it or prevent it next time. 4. I'll go hide for a week to recover from the high-alert sensory and emotional experience now. If it's an ongoing source of tears, I may contact one of my Fe- or Se- dominant/auxiliary confidants (ideally one who is not acquainted with the person in distress, for the sake of privacy) and ask for advice. :P
@InternetLiJo

@suzihoude
@suzihoude 3 года назад
This is exactly everything. I hate that the first response is so seldom the welcomed response 😜. Although, if it’s an ongoing source of tears, I make sure to bump into a mutual Fe and casually mention that “so-and-so has seemed not themself lately” and that’s usually enough for them to leap into action without requiring me to break any confidence.

Should i talk to them? Hug them? Maybe they wanna be left alone. What if they really need someone to talk to? What do people say? Is it serious? Si: grabs tissues and a glass of water. This perfectly describes how I typically handle things. I NEED somebody else to come over and help them, because I already know I won't be able to figure it out. I once walked into a restroom where I found a lady slightly hyperventilating with tears streaming down her face, she got red and acted embarassed when I walked in. "Sorry, we just lost a parent", she said with difficulty, choking out a little embarassed laugh. And... I... laughed... BACK. With a nice big social smile. Because she made a joke, right? She was laughing? So the appropriate response is to laugh BACK, right? And smile? A few seconds later, my brain finished processing the cues and I realized she was actually very sad, and that my reaction was really inappropriate. So I apologized, and got the hell out of there QUICKLY and found another bathroom. People confuse me.
@maria-by3df

@@kratze1738 this is so familiar, happens every time. but worse happens. the things i am really embarrassed about are that once i had to say to mum that a friend of mine fainted and that's why i'm home late, but instead i laughed slightly and she thought it's a joke. and the other thing is when i say to someone that someone else died (a person they know, actors, singers, etc., I FUCKING !SMILE! and i just realized that my parents probably are more embarrassed...

Not saying this is the universal INFP experience, but: Fi: Oh my God, something must be seriously wrong! I have a human responsibility to help them! Seeing them cry is upsetting, and now I feel even worse about not living up to my responsibilities to other humans. Ne: What's wrong?! Did someone die? Is someone hospitalized?? Have they been going through a rough patch and things just piled up too much, and they snapped??? Si: I remember what it's like to cry in public... it late afternoon on a tram downtown, and I was exhausted from stress, and... I know what would have helped *me*, at least... Te: Nope! Get me out of here! Final decision: A) Substitute a lack of words for physical affection if you know they won't mind and eventually ask if it helped or they feel any better, or awkwardly ask if they need a hug B) "Uh... is there anything I can do for you...?" INTJs, have a sense of resilience about them, a very steady intensity. I am on a break from being a professor, and I used to give my students this test, just to break the ice, and because the reading of the syllabus bores me more than it does them. And the INTJs were my favorites. They feel like they can take care of themselves, and it is a massive relief for an INFJ. And they are quite serious, but if you gently tease them, they really open up, as long as they know you are kidding, otherwise they’ll kick your ass with words. And they will win. Other students were very impressed by them; instantly respected them, and approached them with caution. The other students seemed to understand and respect the amount of focus the intj was putting into their work, as if it was so obviously beyond their own capacity, and they would simply marvel at it, never even hoping to become it. And it was sort of an under the radar subplot, but I do remember feeling this way, as a student, about another student, somehow knowing all of us felt the same way. As a professor during one on one midterm reviews, I would mention a particular intj as a good example, often, and the student would just speak about that person so differently, with such respect, and a bit of awe and mystery. How cool is that? I had an intj in particular who had such abusive parents, I was absolutely floored when I fully deduced it from a lot of information. It seemed like such an injustice to this outstanding individual. So I sort of vowed to myself, to go above and beyond for this student, in any way I could, whatever my position allowed, and beyond. I wanted to reward her for the person she was, for her conduct as a human being, a student, her unbelievable work effort, and for never using her family as an excuse to expect less from life or herself. We need these people in the world, and while would never presume to believe that I could fix anything about that terrible home situation for her, I knew I could do what was in my capacity, which was to be at least one person in her life who wouldn’t let her down; who would reward her for every one of her outstanding qualities, and never put her in a position to have to ask, and to just really shine a light on her wonderful qualities as I genuinely felt them. (INFJ, again..)

They probably shouldn’t be crying “a lot”, unless they are genuinely grieving, or perhaps have untreated depression. I think you are frustrated for good reason, and it might just be indicating to you that something is genuinely quite wrong, in which case, maybe say this to the person crying, because they might need to hear it, it could really help to hear some honesty. Love always, INFJ
@christalphelps6186
@christalphelps6186 3 года назад
@@quintuplebanned4267 lol I love how Fe oriented your comment is. I guess I should clarify "a lot" as it is a very subjective term. "A lot" to me is once, a day or every couple of days (which is normal for some people- especially for those who have high sleep or are Feelers) What is actually frustrating is when someone cries a lot because they don't prevent whatever is making them cry. I.e. if they are overwhelmed by the things they have to do it is frustrating to me when I point out the things they could do to not be overwhelmed like planning and not procrastinating. ( if that makes more sense lol) Feelings also seem really irrational to me (even though I'm aware the are valid) It is hard for me to see a copious amount of emotion and not have an adverse reaction to it (I'm better tho! Your portrayal of Fi is really interesting to me. Fi sees what’s happening and relates it to their own experiences, thereby making it their own problem (put bluntly, by making it about them) and I find that this really isn’t empathy, just recall. A lot of fi users i know will try to comfort others by relating things to their own feelings and experiences, but don’t end up addressing the other person as much. Fi is introverted and focused on the self. I don’t think it could be called empathy...it’s more like sympathy when you think about it. (At least, that’s how I understand Fi. I’m not even an Fi user, just an ENFJ.) I think you exemplify Fi really well, though. Kudos to you!

Growing up, I learned that its best to not telling the other person how 'I feel' or what to do if I'm in their shoes, instead just tell them the thing that is happening really is sad, and I would feel awful too. trying not to make it about me too much. I learned its best to not expressing how I feel and just let them talk, listen. If its something that I never been through, I'd just imagine how'd it be and try to get through it with them, the emotions, together. If this happened to me before? yeah I'll wait for them to calm down because I know what to do now. I'll give advice if needed. If not, I'll sit with them in silence.

Fi users yeah we definitely relate to people thru our own experiences but imo it actually helps us feel what that person is feeling. Ppl tend to share more vulnerable, traumatic things with Fi users than Fe users. Fe users comfort for the sake of making the person feel better, which is the end goal (good goal). Fi users comfort to connect to the sufferer on a soul level. I personally would want an Fi user to hear my problems bc they can become that person who’s hurting briefly. However in certain situations, if someone just wants sympathy I would prefer an Fe user. I personally don’t like Fe because although it has benefits, it’s a bit more shallow. Fi I feel like would understand intense suffering. (Referencing lovewho). Fe users (ESPECIALLY esfjs) get on my nerves because they will side with a cause even if it’s unethical, if they feel it will maintain group unity. That in itself can be a form of selfishness because it avoids the internal discomfort of conflict that Fe users experience. A more accurate label for Fi would be “self referencing,” not selfish. A good phrase for Fe is not always “selfless”, more like “group homeostasis” (the maintained balance of people’s feelings.)

Me as iNTJ female: “Who is crying? Am I a close friend of that person?" -> Yes -> go there and ask "what's happening? I will help to solve your problem." No -> "Does that person look like so depressed that they need the presence of others? Or Does he/she look like he/she needs privacy?" -> Go there and keep silent or just go away and pretend that I know nothing.

For me as an INFJ it looks like: Ni - Now everything makes sense. Why she/he was like this... But why are they crying over broken glass... they probably have bigger problems and just couldn’t handle it. Fe - poor her/him, makes me sad as well, it looks like they're struggling... Ti - I should go and talk to them, cheer them up or something... Ni again: But do they want it? they might feel embarrassed.. But maybe they'll feel better.. What kind of person are they? I think they might prefer to be alone.. Se - realising I'm staring at them

omg Te gave me total Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate vibes! as a fellow ENFP (4w3): Ne - immediately trying to figure out who/what around is the source of tears / if i'm about to be crying too Fi - always relating to the situation whether i've lived it or not (i've realised this overpowers me every time i'm talking to friends but my way of caring is literally "I understand!!! I feel it too!!! You are not alone/weird/abnormal!!!") Te - awkward. uncomfortable. what do I do? what do I say? don't mess this up!!! Si - it's unbearable to see someone in pain. must fix. provide warm drink and proven method of easing pain. end sad asap.

This is so interesting !!! I honestly can see that in her portrayal of Ni she comes from NT perspective and way of thinking, and it's interesting to see how even though 2 types have Ni dominant, due to their auxiliary function differences they may approach it differently; for me, (infj) my Ni approach would be more into analyzing her personality and feelings and what may the other person find emotionally comfortable and helpful, and from my Fe, I would instinctively jump to help and defend, no hesitation. And whenever I watch you, it's like watching the INTJ in my own life hahaha keep going, these are awesome!
