it's amazing for the Jedi when they get into small-scale fighting which to be fair is usually what they did because they were basically just space cops but when a real war broke out it's not suited to take you fire from multiple enemies
@@thegeneralofsound That would literally make no sense to have missles and not use them. But no, original TIE Fighters just had the two lasers below the cockpit. In the new Squadrons game and maybe some other games they have the capability but that's a gameplay mechanic for balancing in multiplayer games. In the old PC game TIE Fighter (yes it's not canon anymore) but they were going for a space sim in that, the TIE Fighters just had lasers. Other TIE variants that had lasers moved to the "wing" tips like the Interceptor, Avenger and Defender the laser ports under the cockpit were converted to missle launchers.
Yeah Ties were freakishly agile and tiny with a mean bite, but they were fragile. But this also meant that they were incredibly hard to hit. I think i remember reading about how a Tie fighter could make a straffing run on a cruiser before their gunners on the point-defence cannons could do anything. Makes you realize how much the pilots attacking the Falcon in ANH were holding back in order to allow the Falcon to escape. Poor imp pilots.
Something you forgot is that there's actually 2 variants: the original Delta 7 and the Delta 7B. The 7B had twice the number of laser cannons, an actual astromech socket in the center, and a bigger hull with small S-foils. Anakin used a 7B during the Clone Wars instead of the original 7 that Obi Wan had in Episode 2.
Also fun fact it was based off of Hasbro toy the Hasbro toy can be pulled apart into a little Starfighter that resembles the one from episode 3. it makes sense for the astromech slot to be in the middle instead of off-center but it seems to only work with round-headed astromechs a cone-headed one like the one that had a bad motivator in A New Hope completely blocks the front view of the pilot
With these points in mind I'd say this is a great example of a civilian design being ill suited for the war it found itself in, and potentially the arrogance of the Jedi at the time. The Republic and the Jedi were not ready for a war and their gear shows it.
That's the whole point of the prequels lmao. The "Grand Army of the Republic" almost miraculously landed on the Senate's lap when they needed it most and that's why no one ever stopped to consider if perhaps more nefarious forces were at play. Without the 5 million strong meat-shield that the clones ended up becoming, the Separatists could have torn the bloated and inefficient Republic apart in less than a year
Going back on your last point, where the ship has no accessibility to non-Jedi, it's actually said in the Episode II novel that a specialized R-Type droid would have to be installed so a regular pilot wouldn't shoot off the nose of their craft, if firing during a climb.
The cockpit is all the way at the back, making sure that the first and only thing the enemy is likely to hit is you. Even more of a problem since we never see the Jedi wearing sealed suits inside one. Break that giant dome and the pilot is 100% dead.
I think that the two major flaws (which apply to the Inderdictor SD, Immobilizer 418, and the sort of hybrid Interdictor Cruiser) are that they're deaigned like Star Destroyers and those bulbd are massively exposed.
Your measurement system based on Danny DeVito sounds interesting. does it have a way to express smaller units ,like a milli DeVito or larger unit say a kilo DeVito? Is there a way to measure mass or time? is it based on a system of 10 or some odd numbers of one Danny DeVito equaling a larger or smaller unit?
There were a number of far more suitable integrated Hyperdrive and Shield equipped Snubfighters that existed before the Clone Wars. They also included better weapons (including launchers) and usually a full astromech. The Naboo N1 Starfighter ticked all the boxes, and it was elegant as well. The Head Hunter could be modified with aftermarket work to be a proto X-Wing with Hyperdrive and a mech. There were also a few other lesser known ships - the Jedi probably wouldn't use a Mandalorian design… but the possiblity is there. They also had the advantage that they didn't scream _"Jedi"_ when the pilot was doing clandestine investigation, although the option was there to give it a distinctive Judicial paint job. But really the best option for a Jedi would be to use basically the same sort of ship as a loner Bounty Hunter: a small gunship, long range shuttle modified for combat, or a very light Freighter (Corellian of course) that's been hotted up like a smuggler ship. As for maneuverability, a Jedi couldn't get a performance edge from the Millennium Falcon?? Perhaps there's smaller version, the Millennium Sparrowhawk or Centurion Kestrel?
Most Jedi didn't travel the galaxy for any extended piriod of time. Most of them lived at the temple and were given the occasional mission to some Republic world where they'd then fly over to said location, settle some dispute, then fly right back. So having freighters or shuttles weren't usually necessary. The delta-7 was, maybe not perfect, but very practical for that kind of quick trip while also giving them some combat abilties for dealing with pirates, mercs or other space thugs they might run into while on mission. Hell, most of the time they'd just charter a Republic diplomatic shuttle like what Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan did at the begining of TPM. The only thing that I'd consider an issue for it's intended purpose would be the lack of built-in hyperdrive. Even the guns were enough to destroy their targets (enemy starfighters i mean) with one or two shots. And the Jedi rarely missed. Launchers aren't really needed when you have superhuman reflexes, precognition, a fighter that can literally fly circles around almost all your enemies, and, most importantly, your enemies don't have health bars like in Squadrons or Battlefront. I already brought this up in another thread but, 6 or so Jedi using their Delta-7s were able to hold their own against a Lukerhulk battleship and it's 1,200 droid starfighters with only 1 or 2 casulties.
These are exotic ships, a naboo starfighter i doubt more than a couple squadrons of them were ever even made period. They were more of a elegant royalty type of military design because naboo wasnt really a hostile planet that needed constant serious air support. It reflects the royalty aesthetic
If it was designed after Palpatine became Chancellor, it would have been part of his plan. Could a earlier Sith have had a hand in it or could Palpatine have done so when he was only a Senator?
@@casbot71 I was thinking the same thing. Palpatine may have known some of them would have been flying during order 66 or knew the jedi cared more about other's lives than their own.
In the old canon, before even TCW and back when the Clone Wars multi-media project was a thing, it took the Republic 4 months to build starfighters for the clones. That's how unprepared the Republic was for war. In those 4 months, the Jedi alone, armed with their Delta-7s, were the only ones combating the Seperatist fighters in space. During the battle of Kamino, the orbital defence force taking on the lone Seperatist lukerhulk battleship consisted of a mere 8 Jedi pilots, yet they held their own with only 1 or 2 casualties. Even after Anakin and Obi-Wan got shot down and had to fight groundside for the rest of the battle. This means that 6 Jedi in Delta-7s were capable of contending with 1,200 droid starfighters. Yes doid starfighters were not very agile and certainly weren't very smart, but make no mistake, Jedi aces were no pushovers in their Delta-7s.
The rings were left in space unless loaded on a larger carrier ship. So the astromech would have no way to support the Jedi if left on the ring. Amung other things, the astromech could fly the ship in the Jedi's place if they needed dropped off somewhere.
@@corruptangel6793 yeah but design wise, the astro mech was intended for FTL navigation; since the ring is needed for FTL, why would the astro mech need to be installed in the craft when it could be in the ring? That’s the point I’m making
@@hellfish2309 tbh, I've never heard of the Delta not having sensors installed, that's just weird. The jedi aren't omniscient after all. I wonder where GT got that from as I dont remember that being in the Cross-Sections guide book, the AOTC novelization, or the New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels. To my knowledge, that's what the astromech was supposed to help with when not programming the hyperdrive. Beyond helping pilot like I already mentioned, the astromech helped reroute power and oversaw the communications and sensors so the Jedi could focus on piloting. This allowed the Jedi to push the Delta's agility and limited combat abilties to the limit. The astromech did everything normal Astromechs did minus assist with targeting as the Jedi just let the force guide their aim.
It's the ancient Greek letter Eta like the Greek letter Delta as used on the Aethersprite not an acronym E.T.A. I mean it's the same naming convention for the Theta and Lambda class shuttles.
Dolphins, man. (Actually, the Gen Tech guys, especially Allen, like to perpetuate mistakes like TIE/in being the designation for Fighters, E.T.A. Instead of eta, TIEs not having life support or ejection seats, Rebels having better visual scanning actually mattering when all starfighters should have full holographic HUD and 360 virtual display. Jamming? We can discuss that latter.
This could STILL be a decent fighter... provided, that they upgraded the hell outta it. Especially the Jedi model. They could make it an interceptor "tank".. all Mandalorian Iron or something.. BUT then again, that might make it also very heavy and expensive too. P.S. next week Allen tells us how his PTSD counciling to treat the horrors he suffered and witnessed via his VR Squadrons service
I'd love to see your ideal starfighter design. Preferably from the ground up but starting from a prebuilt space frame would be good too. Keep up the amazing work guys.
Pretty sure it's "e-tah", not "e-t-a." You know, like the Greek letter. You know, like how "Delta" had been used on the previous Jedi fighter. C'mon, man.
the eta 2 is still far superior in combat and its more so because they tried to keep the fighters to minimalistic and the era hyperdrives couldn't fit ships this small
{Generation Tech}: This ship wasn't built for war and closer in function to a civilian ship. {Also Generation Tech}: Here's how its flawed as a weapon of war!
@@gunnerpony1851 It got used because that's what they had when the clone wars began. It was designed and built to be used in a peace keeping role, not to fight in a war. To fault it for faltering to excel in a role it was never meant to be used in is kinda dumb. They upgraded it into a more effective fighter, the Delta-7B Aethersprite, as a stop gap until they could replaced it with the Eta-2 Actis. This is the fighter that should of been judged in this episode.
@@LoneWolf20213 In universe answer: Because he's a Jedi and not an head engineer with operations research and supply chain knowledge and the starfighters were already produced. Real answer: Because the Jedi don't fly pimped whips and the point of Anakins mod was to show his character not a message about war efforts or anything else really.
The laser cannon comment is wrong, it has 2 twin laser cannons, not “one pair” theres two on top and two on the underside underneath the top ones. So 4 barrels total, not two
@@shadowranger125 the original actually had two lasers but they had special twin emitters that alternated where the bolts were released. As stated in the AOTC Incredible Cross-sections book. The image of which was used in this very video.
Apparently never played original Tie Fighter franchise, the one actually made by Lucas Arts. Was actually possible to turn around shoot the missile chasing you.
Tap "I" and you target the incoming missile. If at distance, you could come about and blast it. Otherwise you throttle back to 1/3 for the tightest turn radius and attempt to out turn the missile until you get it in your gun sights. A classic technique used by any veterans of the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games.
Something you missed is that the guns on the Delta-7 overheated very quickly, so a Jedi had to nail their target in the first couple shots. This also severaly limited their combat abilities against heavier duty enemies like droid transports or things like that.
It really isn't that flawed. The Delta-7 Aethersprite was designed for patrol duties and starfighter dogfighting, essentially an early-bird version of the TIE Interceptor. With that in mind, Jedi Starfighters did pretty well, all things considered. The only thing they were missing were A) A hyperdrive, which many starfighters at the time lacked, and B) heavy anti-capital ship weapons, which isn't their job to tackle, since you leave that kind of shit to the bombers and the Acclamator-class gunships and Victory-class Star Destroyers.
Actually a funny thing about this fighter. In a behind-the-scenes video of the DVD of attack of the clones, George Lucas told his artist to take the design of the imperial Star destroyer and turn it into a fighter. If you look really closely at the design of the Delta 7 you can actually see the aesthetics of the Star destroyer very clearly
I would take all the time and all the credits to convert the detla into a ship for a normal non force user could use. Has to be my favorite ship even with all its flaws.
In the Jedi Starfighter video game Adi Gallia was able to use the Force to enhance the functionality of her Delta-7. Abilities such as "Force Shield" can project a protective bubble around the fighter that can absorb energy far better than the Shields on the Fighter itself (Obi-Wan Kenobi had to have used this ability as his Delta-7 took repeated hits from the Slave 1 while only suffering damage from a direct hit that would ordinarily shred much larger fighters). The Jedi pilot can also slow down time relative to the Starfighter increasing the rate of fire and accuracy of the Laser Cannons exponentially. A Light side version of Force Lightning can also be used to short circuit Enemy fighters. And finally Force Shockwave is essentially identical to a Seismic Charge. These are legends and most importantly game mechanics so they are probably not applicable to discussions about the Delta-7. However it would explain why the Jedi would consider it even marginally effective while average pilots would consider flying it to be suicidal.
Those powers seem far fetched for them to be applicable to all Jedi. Only masters would be able to use them. it’s just the enhanced reflexes that allow them to block lasers that let them pilot so expertly
And don't forget, that one actually had a built-in hyperdrive. According to the new essential guide to vehicles it was only a class 3 vs. the ring's class 1 rating, but still better than nothing in the event of a ring's destruction.
@@darrenvoong9013 most likely just game mechanics. However the Force Shield has some merit as Kenobi's Delta-7 tanked sustained fire from Slave 1 and only suffered minor scorch marks and damage to it's long range Transmitter.
I don't think g-forces was much of a limit on starfighters. It seems their inertial compensators are so good that they can and do out-maneuver missiles.
This. Intertial dampeners made it so you could pull insanely tight turns that would cause a real world pilot to black out quickly, and do it with little to no physical effects to the pilot. Fun fact for you, in the Legends X-Wing series, Wedge reflects on how it was Porkins' tendency to ramp up the dampeners to 100% nullification that got him killed. According to that series, most experienced fighter pilots keep their dampeners high but not at max, allowing for a minuscule amount of g-forces to get through. This lets the pilot still feel how his or her craft is moving. Porkins kept his dampeners at 100%, blocking all g-forces for his own comfort. As a result he couldn't feel that his X-Wing wasn't pulling out of the dive towards the Death Star fast enough, ending up slamming into the deck because of it.
True, to an extent. While inertial dampeners can nullify issues with tight maneuvers, a missile will still have an obscenely high thrust to mass ratio when compared to even the most nimble interceptor.
You don't need an astromech for hyperspace calculations....you just need a computer. Star Destroyers and rebel cruisers jump to Hyperspace all the time without them.
I noticed that you didn't say anything about it's lifesuport systems. Suddenly I think, that it would be a subject of a whole show; "WHAT SHIPS HAVE THE BEST &/OR WORST SAFTY FEATURES -INCLUDING LIFESUPORT".
literally never use guided munitions vs fighters in squadrons?...wtf....rofl always save that stuff for the bigger stuff(although haven't done multiplayer)...except for the multilock missiles
I think some people are right. To me it's really a civilian ship . A 2 seater would be COOL here on earth, Stereo sound, Chrome . But keep the weapons as you may run into some "HOMIES" that want to JACK YOUR RIDE at the Burger King !
Indeed - for any non-direct combat mission (and even for those in most cases!) this thing is woefully under-equipped! I mean in SWTOR they don't give you a small corvette as the Jedi-Ship, because that can house several people, has a long endurance (both with fuel and food!) and packs more of a punch than a starfighter ever could...then again: Why would you want a starfighter? Frankly even with a Jedi-Pilot a light freighter would be the better ship (it is as agile as a starfighter, but more durable and has greater firepower, too!)
Y'know, the thing that bugged me about the Delta 7 the most, is the hyperdrive ring. The ship was originally commissioned as the personal fighters and scouts of the Jedi Order...so why did a ship who's original purpose involved a lot of long-range travel...why...in god's name did it not come with a built-in hyperdrive?!
Wanna hear something interesting? The Naboo N-1 Starfighter is better than the Delta 7. Actual Laser Cannons. Missile Launcher. Proper Shielding. And a full Astromech socket. A planetary defense force fighter is better than the galaxy defenders star fighter.
People watching should keep in mind the Delta-7B, which was delivered to the Jedi as a militarized version of the Delta-7. Though that’s like saying someone militarized your tiny 2-seater sports car. The only improvement that I would consider major is the full Astromech Socket in the centerline of the ship.
The Delta 7 is like piloting a P-51 Mustang in a time period where the F-4 Phantom 2 and the Mig-21 are a standar airship. Is fast and agile, but lacks firepower and even more speed to keep up with the standard military vehicles. I still really like the starship and it's one of my favorites alongside the A-wing and X-wing
Soooo, basically everything was point 1: It's a civilian craft. Everything else was rooted in that and pointless to mention. And the whole video was your opportunity to promote the new Squadrons game? Stop wasting our time with terrible writing and contrived subjects. That is terrible journalism. You used to be better than this. So try harder!
If you're going to have a droid as a (semi) permanent part of the ship, why not just load the droid software directly into the ship and remove the head ? 1: it balances and saves weight, 2: it improves visibility where the head was, 3: it balances and improves aerodynamic flow for atmospheric flight, and improves visual appearance, and 4: that's one less interface (droid-ship) to have to make things work. When the droid is literally part of the ship instead of just attached to it, commands can be executed even more quickly. Cons: 1: you lose the droid's utility arms, but you really only had those in one spot anyway, so not much of a loss, and 2: your droid ship could technically decide to take over, but your droid-head could also do that, so no difference there.
The Delta 7 is basically the Star Wars equivalent of vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette, Toyota GR Supra, and Porsche 911: great for taking out to have fun, but when it's time to go to work, it's not the one you want to use
During peace times the Aethersprite was probably the best ship for the Jedi. When most issues were down to pirates/criminal gangs using retrofitted junk ships (it's not like they could just make military grade star-fighters appear from thin air), the Aethersprite was superb: The light armaments allowed for disabling pirate ships without destroying them, and the maneuverability could pretty much let the Jedi fly circles around pirates. Think about it: If the Jedi has been telling you to surrender, and submit to arrest, and has been dodging everything you throw at them for the past 10 minutes with seeming supernaturally minimal effort, all while not showing a single sign of distress, a wise pirate would strongly start to consider surrendering, because the Jedi has already shown what they are capable of even without firing a single shot when they well could have been firing at you. It was also very easy to identify. This pretty much announcing the presence of Jedi, to anyone in the area and potentially with that fact alone causing a de-escalation, and stand down to occur. For peacekeepers in a time of peace: The ship was pretty spot on. The low amount of air/fuel it could hold, and the hyper ring reliance could be down to tech limitations, but also from data showing that most missions where Jedi were needed to back up the local law enforcement did not take too long to sort out. During war? Not so much.
There are a few lies in you video. Additionally you mix information on both the A & B variants. If you wanted to get ad money for plugging Squadrons then do that instead of the Fox News inspired mix of truth and lies. B did have Chaf countermeasures and both had long range communications as well as small ship storage for personal items.
Sounds like the Lotus of the starfighter world. A flimsy, style over substance piece of junk only snobbish pricks like the jedi would want. An odd point, if the fighter is supposedly designed in collaboration with and tested extensively by the jedi order best pilots, why did all the flaws mentioned not observed by the jedi? The planning and execution of this project alone tell us the jedi are likely overrated hippies who don't know what they are doing and thus no surprise when they get annihilated by the Emperor
Can you please do a video about how artificial gravity on ships in Star Wars works? Like how the heck can people walk while a ship is in zero gravity environments? And what about inconsistencies like when Grievous's ship was falling apart over Coruscant and the direction of gravity seemed to change when the ship tilted... If the gravity on the ship was artificially generated, why would it shift like that?
Making one in Kerbal Space Program was tough at first. The thing that made it make sense was making the very front point a canard for pitch control. After that is flies like a dream even scaled up to a large scale passenger jet in game. It just has to have canards blended into the nose. I really wonder if this could be a workable rc plane or real civilian personal jet. Boy would it be a fun ride.
as far as an enemy finding your hyper space ring in outer vacuum outside orbit, that seems pretty remote... i dont know the exactness of sensor tech here as noone does, but a small thing in the vast black of space where most defense patrols wouldnt go around most planets would be hard to find unless you already knew where it was... if not, large probe droids and smugglers in larger ships would have zero chance of getting thru.. hell, on earth in naval warfare its hard enough to locate enemy ships as it is with tech and only certain vectors to search... add in complete all axis movement and that makes it even harder... could the enemy get lucky, yes, and while its probably not worth testing said luck, there must have been some benefit in the weight savings... oh well... good vid.. also whats alan's deal with hats? is he growing a killer bald spot to hide, or does his girlfriend dress him?.. this ones beanie aint too bad but check out some other vids..sorry... keep on keepin on
Ok this is a stupid design.... If food is stored in the hyperspace ring and you can't land with it attached and there's no obvious space for an Eva suit how the hell are you ment to access the food supply ????.
To be fair, the Delta 7's were designed for Jedi who had superior reflexes and could avoid enemy firing easier. They would've wanted a lighter, faster interceptor.
Flaw number 8: they took into account the user's unique abilities and ommitted systems rendered redundant by the force, allowing the user more direct control over the craft Bruh what
food and consumables were stored on the hyperspace ring?! the thing never designed to go in atmosphere? what's a Jedi to do, hold their breath, pop the canopy, spacewalk to the ring's storage compartment, grab a snack, and then climb back into the cockpit?
Could you please explain how the flying bulldozer from "Paw patrol Fly to the rescue" is supposed to be used? Is the bucket scoop on the front supposed to be used as a ram?
I agree that the Jedi starfighters were inferior to the GAR starfighters, and I don't really understand why they were stripped down in terms of ordinance and protection. They were more of a special situation starfighter than a main-use craft.
Ok Delta 7 Is a race bike. Flashy and no substance. And it like asking for air conditioner on a bike. The only reason to have weapons if they need to catch pickpocketer.
do a video on what they should have used instead of the delta 7 or what it should have been replaced with. a stripped-down and simplified ark 170 would make sense as it has a lot of the needed features and the slow firing autocannons would not be an issue for the jedi but the full version would likely be to slow and clunky personally I think an updated N-1 would work better than the delta 7
