@@growingsoul30 I make my best friends wife laugh all the time. That don't make me Shane from Walking Dead. Besides Jimmy is interested in Kimmy not Chuck's wife.
This is jealousy, plain for everyone to see. A lot of people would have found Jimmy charismatic and friendly but Chuck only looks at the lack of professionalism. He takes things in the worse possible way and believes it to be right.
I think Chuck realizes that Jimmy is more funny and charismatic than he is. Chuck falls back on his “professionalism” and “sophistication” because he lacks these real human charms that Jimmy does. He despised the fact that Jimmy is a lawyer because he can no longer hold his accomplishments over Jimmys head. Chuck however I think is more justified of his disdain for Jimmys aloofness and inconsideration for the consequences of his actions and the fact that Jimmy refuses to change despite being called out after hurting others
@@LaVerdad65 exactly right. “You do what I do because you’re funny and you make people laugh. I dedicated my life to this!” Chuck is clearly an introvert while Jimmy is an extrovert, and he is beyond jealous of that. He hates the fact that while Jimmy was screwing around, stealing from his own dad, conning people, scamming people, he was putting his blood sweat and tears into getting where he is. And worst of all, Jimmy was still the favorite child because of how charming and charismatic he was. So when Jimmy took and online course, which chuck felt was a cheap way to become an attorney, he resented him. He dosen’t think Jimmy deserves to be a lawyer, despite the fact that Jimmy really was trying to impress chuck and change his ways. Both sides are sympathetic and have reasons for feeling the way they do. But in my opinion, I think if Chuck supported Jimmy and wasn’t consumed with jealousy and resentment, then Jimmy could have become a successful and real lawyer and never would have become Saul Goodman.
@@Danny-dn5pj Jimmy stole that money so that his dad doesn't realize the scams that people did to him . People stole from his dad and he wouldn't believe jimmy. That's what jimmy does all the time, he tries to create his own results because he believes the people around him deserve/don't deserve him. Chuck doesn't think about that, all he thinks about is jimmy stealing from his dad. That is the problem that Chuck has suffered from and he hates jimmy because after all those flaws, his mom still loved him more. It's is really sad, but kim is right Chuck made jimmy who he is because he wasn't a good brother to him.
@@stam7250 oh wow, I never even thought about him stealing the money so that his dad didn’t realize the scams. That’s a really clever observation, I never realized that. I always just thought it was sort of a “can’t beat them, join them” type thing. But that makes a lot of sense
@@Danny-dn5pj preach brother. I feel the community never gave chuck any slack even tho his arc was really sad and sympathetic. His own mother called for his conman brother three times before she died in front of his face, that’s got to be soul scarring shit. No wonder he became deeply jealous of jimmy.
This scene actually shows us exactly why their marriage failed. Its easy to assume that Chuck probably hasn’t made her laugh like that for a long time based off his reaction, she was clearly amused by Jimmys charismatic and whacky personality which would tell us thats obviously the kind of guy she prefers. Not someone boring like Chuck
Theres also the fact that he is ashamed of his working class roots. He prides himself on his manners (following the social contract), going to university, getting a degree, appreciating the finer things, having a prestigious law firm and a upper class wife only for her to instantly warm to his scumbag brother who makes jokes about his profession, brought beer, drinks it out of the bottle and is so unashamedly himself.
And also the root of his pride and issues with Jimmy. He expected her to smile and begrudgingly go along with Jimmy’s jokes, but instead she genuinely laughed and fell under the same spell as everyone else.
You can't fault him. The hosts didn't serve him the wine. All this shows me is their incompetence as a host or the fact they don't think of him as an equal. (It's also why Jimmy struggles at the beginning to find a way to break the ice. It shouldn't be up to him, he's the new guy in the table you can't expect HIM to lead conversations and shit) Anyway, so many more hidden subtleties ... the show is just a masterpiece
Apart from Rebecca, Chuck sees everybody like they're below him. Even though he has a point about Jimmy breaking the law but Chuck is as much of a fraud when it suits him.
@@ThatOneDude7 it was chuck who wouldn't serve him the wine because Jimmy bought beer and wine for them. Chuck didn't like the fact that he couldn't buy the expensive wine he wanted.
@@Raphie009 he had resentment for him, with semi-justified reasons. But no, he never hated Jimmy. He had absolutely no obligation to help Jimmy over and over in court before giving him a basically second chance in life with a job on his Office. These arent actions of a person who hates his brother. But he certainly had internal jealousy for his social capabilities.
@@notsureiL Actually it was jealousy from chuck because as smart as he is he doesn't have jimmy's charm and he really wants it. After this scene I think chuck and Rebecca are in bed and chuck tries telling a Joke and it comes off as awkward and not funny. Chuck saw that everyone loved jimmy (especially his mother who called for jimmy in her last dying words and ignored chuck completely) and he wanted a piece of that charm.
The cringe at the end when Chuck tries to make a joke after Jimmy is gone 😣 He really feels threatened by Jimmy. I think he is jealous of his bro. Jimmy went his own way, not the conventional. Chuck is a stiff suite guy.
Back at the sandpiper case when theyre attending a meeting, only chuck questioning jimmy's way how to reach out the clients. Like who the fuck care bro, Sandpiper didnt allow jimmy enter their property and you cant do nothing about it because there's a lot of manpower need to break in each facilities.
Yep, Chuck has a lot to be proud of and the respect of his peers but that’s about it. Meanwhile, Jimmy’s the one everyone enjoys despite his shady past.
Deep down Chuck just wishes he could sometimes let go and be carefree, crack a joke like Jimmy. But people don't see him like that. And when he does try, it turns into an awkward situation, which increases Chuck's frustration towards his brother. I don't hate Chuck for it. Put yourself in his shoes. Maybe you've known a guy in your life, not necessarily your brother, who is a complete fuckup and kind of a douche yet still somehow manages to be popular with everyone.
Did you hear that they're going to start using lawyers for lab experiments instead of rats? Because 1- There are more lawyers then there are rats. 2-The lab technicians don't get as attached to the lawyers as they do to the rats. 3-you can get lawyers to do a lot of things that rats won't do.
Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, an honest lawyer and an old drunk are walking down the street together when they simultaneously spot a hundred dollar bill. Who gets it? The old drunk, of course, the other three are fantasy creatures.
This might be the most important scene in regards to why Chuck always kept Jimmy down and never helped guide him into becoming an upstanding lawyer. Chuck was jealous of Jimmy and how much better he was at connecting with people. Deep down, he felt threatened and insecure about this which is why he was so fixated on proving that Jimmy could never be a real lawyer.
That and their mums death, her last words while jimmy was gone was his name, even when chuck said it was him there chuck lied to jimmy and said she never said anything before she passed, I feel like that’s an even bigger reason as to why chuck has so much resentment towards jimmy, and it’s sad that jimmy doesn’t know his mothers last words was his name all because chuck is a jealous selfish brat
If only they had communicated openly and with empathy. I can totally see an arrangement happening in this case where Chuck teaches Jimmy lawyering and Jimmy teaches Chuck humanizing.
@Aldo Apache Chuck deep deep down is a good man who loves Jimmy. He just allowed his jealosy to cause him to self destruct (literally cuz he killed himself) and Jimmy got some of the damage too.
@Aldo Apache I think Chuck used to love Jimmy deep deep deep deep down. Jimmy even says this when he tries to apologize to Chuck during the Season 3 Finale. Chuck is caught up in his delusions and lies to Jimmy saying I never loved you. Out of shame and guilt for doing this to Jimmy he kills himself.
Quick? Dude, Chuck spent 30 years with Jimmy, he was there in his every single mess and fuck up. This isnt a sudden change, its something that festered him inside for years.
If I remember it correctly what this scene showed was more jealousy from chuck because as smart as he is he doesn't have jimmy's charm and he really wants it.
I think he only had a problem because his wife who he assumes is on his "side" is laughing with his brother. This is a key scene in defining his character.
And it’s similar to why Walter ended his relationship with Gretchen. His pride and sense of inferiority with her family was too much for someone like him.
For anybody who doesn’t know or remember, Chuck pulling his ear is supposed to be a sign that he wants to end dinner, except Jimmy is so funny that Rebecca doesn’t even notice
I actually completely understand Chuck's awkward discomfort here because yeah it feels kind of hurtful when your brother and wife make jokes at your expense basically and your brother is making your wife laugh more than you did but I think he took it too hard because he could have just joined in, it's better to laugh at yourself with people than sit there and let them laugh at you
Thing is the people like Chuck would rather keep that internal discomfort in than learn to be more connecting towards people like its a strike at their pride and status
What's the difference between a dead skunk in the middle of the road and a dead lawyer in the middle of the road? Answer: Skid marks in front of the skunk. ( ;;
Rule No1 of Lawyers club, You do not talk openly about lawyers club jokes unless you're certainly aware about facts, sources & your seniors natural levels of professional ego on who actually has the last word - Bad move Jimmy !! 🍷God, I love the sperm joke she mentioned though. Kinda makes for a fact i guess! 😆
