The first six picks could all be from the Atlantic division 3 of the 8 Atlantic teams play in the play in round so if 3 place holders win it first six picks could go Montreal, Florida, Toronto (no particular order for those 3), Detroit, Ottawa, Ottawa

I believe Minnesota holds the Pens 1st rounder this year though, so as much as I would like to see another Rimouski star on the pens, even if our pick somehow becomes the first, the Wild get Laff anyways

Outrageous things that can happen: 1st overall pick can be traded for multi 1st round picks... ex Player trades can happen to acquire more draft picks, although players can't play in playoffs this year. Ex Eichel? I like the idea Ottawa finally gets a chance at top 3 picks. Maybe in a couple of years.

Imagine the playoffs get cancelled and they do a 14 round draft next year with all players from this year and next years draft.

When is the draft?

I hope the Coyotes will win the second draft lottery, and they probably will, because of Taylor Hall. The problem is: They traded away their first round pick to the Devils ... for Taylor Hall. And now imagine Taylor Hall doesn't resign in Arizona. Then they would have traded away the first overall pick for losing the Play-in series. Their fan would be so upset.

I'm salivating over the prospect of the Hawks getting to basically start another dynasty with two players from the previous one.

On the topic of Taylor Hall and the draft lottery wins. Technically the Oilers didn't win the draft lottery in 2011.That was when the NHL had that old format where a team that won the draft lottery only jumps up like 4 spots or something. Created so only a team that finished in the bottom 5 could ever pick first overall, I guess. The Oilers may have finished dead last that year and picked RNH. The winner of the draft lottery though, was....the New Jersey Devils, and they drafted Adam Larsson at 4. So actually in the last decade the Oilers and the Devils have each won 3 NHL Draft Lottery picks.

A bit late now but before the draft, there was a chance that the Rangers could’ve won the cup and gotten the 1st overall pick. They hold the worse of Carolina’s picks, they got their second pick from the Marleau deal that was top 10 protected. If Toronto loses to Columbus, their pick was top 10 and the Canes were selected for the first overall. The Rangers would get the first overall pick. It could still happen but only if most lower ranked seeds win their play-ins

So the tournament after the playoffs is for first overall?

If everything lines up, the Rangers could pick first-third overall and win the Cup. There are a few very specific steps though. 1. One of the first three picks is a placeholder. 2. Rangers beat Canes. 3. Columbus beats Toronto 4. Caroline’s pick lands top three 5. Toronto’s pick lands top ten, giving them the pick back 6. Rangers claim the technical later of the picks - the Carolina top three pick 7. Rangers win the Stanley Cupcakes

There was a 24.5% chance the #1 overall pick goes to a placeholder team, which is a better chance than any other team. I also believe there was an over 50% chance that the Redwings would get the #4 overall pick. And people are still saying it’s rigged... It sucks what happened to those teams, but what happened makes the most sense for the odds.

Really no mention of Detroit? It's outrageous if they pick first and its outrageous if they pick 4th. If they pick first it would only be their 4th first overall pick in a 100 years. If they lose the lottery this would be like their 3rd-4th year where they get bumped out of the lottery.

Technically Taylor hall has lost more draft lotteries than he’s won. The Devils actually won the draft lottery in 2011 but the lottery system only moved the devils up to #4 (Adam Larsson lol)
