I played Division 1 basketball at Colgate University. And throughout my life I have interacted with countless college coaches at all levels of the game. In this video, I’m going to talk about 8 things that college basketball coaches are actually looking for in players they recruit.
Although having extreme size and athleticism can improve your odds of playing in college, I didn’t have any of those things. So, these are 9 attributes that any basketball player can develop, regardless of size and athleticism.
Remember, when a coach comes to watch you play, they aren’t really watching the full game, they are watching you. And if they didn’t only come to watch you play, these are ways you can still stand out, for better or worse.

It is crazy how much you remind me of myself as an older person, our attitudes, the way we talk to coaches, our values, almost a mirror reflection of who I want to be as a person. Keep up the great videos!

You are welcome! I would just tell you that the internet is a beautiful thing. Most coaches have their email information online, and the number of international players in college basketball continues to grow every year. If you put together a well worded email with a highlight tape, you never know. Don't give up on your goal just because you aren't in America!

2:50 could also show that you think you might never get another chance during the game to do the damn thing. Like there teammates may never look for him again. Cure for that, is don’t care, focus on D.

@Aucabeam
@Aucabeam 10 месяцев назад
all are great tips for sure but on tip #2 when you said you can just get back on defense after you make a shot or do a spectacular play i feel like it depends on your personality there are some guys that just express their passion for the game differently than others say for instance like a russell westbrook or even a collin sexton who express fully how they feel then you have guys that no matter what don’t really express like kawhi or a jokic all depends on your personality
@TuckerRichardson
@TuckerRichardson 10 месяцев назад
That is true and I think showing passion and energy when you play is good. But I honestly don't think any high school kid should react like Westbrook does when he does something great. The NBA is a little different, those guys have the luxury of taking 3 or 4 seconds to celebrate a play. You can pump yourself up and still sprint back at the same time. That shows a coach you care in both ways. Thank you for this comment because it is a good point, I definitely am not trying to tell players not to bring passion to their play (see point number 8).

Currently a 5th year PG at a prep school coming off a severe injury that took my true senior year. Any advice for the preseason process going on now (open gyms, lifts, etc.)
@TuckerRichardson
@TuckerRichardson 11 месяцев назад
Great question. This is a tough spot to be in, however I know guys who started talking to schools in their prep year. So depending on where you go and what the exposure is like, you still have time to get noticed. Just try and have the best possible season you can, and have your high school coach reach out to as many schools as possible. If he doesn't have those resources, then you can reach out to them yourself, especially D3 schools. Put together a highlight tape and get your name out there!

This is how most try to stand out today. 1. One lime green shoe and one flourescent orange. 2. One female stocking on just one leg. 3. Hair tied in knots and tied to the top of your head. 4. Tatoos everywhere that you'll regret later.

Hey tucker I’m currently at a really good highschool but there is a lot of competition and I’m not super sure I will be a starter. Should I transfer?
@TuckerRichardson
@TuckerRichardson 10 месяцев назад
Well, it depends on how old you are. If you are a younger player, I think the competition will be really good for you, and hopefully you can work your way into a starting role. If you are older, then the competition will still be good, but if you are getting no playing time, that really won't help your situation at all.
