That is awesome! I just submitted my application this Friday for Fall 2021, they don't let you know if you are in or not until March. So I am over here going crazy!

I love your suggestions so much! Especially the part about the planner and the color-coded pens. I know I struggle with organization and letting things slip and forgetting because I’m such a busy person with two kids, so that is going to be a lifesaver I think. I’m a little bit older going into the program, I’ll be 35 when I get accepted, so I’m worried about making friends in the program if everyone else is so much younger than me. Is there much age diversity in your program? Or is everyone pretty young?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
Don’t worry about age! I’m the youngest in our program so definitely an outlier! Most of the girls in our program are between the ages of 28-38! And yes, the planner with colored pens is a life saver! I can’t imagine getting through the first year without it!

I’m actually finishing up my last year in hygiene school! I want to do a video of a day in the life of a hygiene student but we’ve been soooo busy this quarter that I’ve had no time to record anything 😅

Hi Inessa! About how many patients do you see total in school? I'm working on my prerequisites now, but my biggest worry about the program is finding the people!
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
It’s really hard to say just 1 straight number cause it really just depends on your programs quarterly and two requirements and which patients qualify for what (and if you live in a state that allows you to do restorative, which you’ll also need patients for)! Also in our program, we have to have a certain amount of “patient contact time” where we’re required to have a patient in our chair, even if you’ve already completed all your requirements, and if you don’t have enough time, you go incomplete for the quarter and have to make it up the following quarter! But to give you a very rough estimate (that’s based on our program’s requirements), I’d say about 12-20 “easy” new patients, 10 difficult “heavy calculus/tarter” new patients, and about 20 continuing care patients (our programs provided these for us)! If you have about that, you should be pretty safe!
@alexiskristine522
@alexiskristine522 3 года назад
@@inessagud Thank you for this! I actually live NW Washington and am looking at LWIT and/or shoreline for the 2023 program year start. So your program provides the continuing care patients, and then you roughly found 30 new patients? I really appreciate your info and insight!

How do you engrave your materials?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
You can order an engraver on amazon! They’re about $15-$20! And you can just engrave your initials and student number on each item (Ex: MC18)

How are the class exams / finals Are they multiple choice or written
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
It all depends on the teachers style! Some love multiple choice and others love to include written options. But for sure, I had a lot more multiple choice!

Hi! Is dental hygiene school full time 8 hours?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
Yep, but the hours vary each day, week, and quarter! Some days you’ll only have 4 hours of class while other days, you will have 12 hours! So it’s constantly changing, but definitely is full time!

I definitely don’t recommend working but if it’s the only option, than just learn to really balance it with your school and personal life! But there have been people that done it, so it’s manageable ☺️

How much is DH school and pre reqs?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
Depends on a lot of different factors, including the state, college or university, AA/BAS/MASTERS, public or private, if prerequisites can be done during high school and covered by the state, etc. I did the pre reqs in high school so the state covered it. The program itself is a bachelors, and with that, around $45k for the 2 years

@@inessagud My dentist and 2 other DH told me to go 4 nursing, Im not sure why? But I feel like my heart is in dentistry.Is it hard to make a living off DH?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
Hm, that’s strange! It depends on the area you live in, but dental hygiene is such a great career! Here in Washington, the market has never been greater! Dental hygiene students already have jobs lined up for them months before they graduate (I’ve had 3 offers already and I still have 5 months of school!), the pay is incredible (start is at least $50 an hour), you choose the days you want to work, and the office you wanna work for, etc. It’s such a great career. And you can choose to work 5 days a week, or 1 day a year! It’s all up to you!
@jeffmeisner8976
@jeffmeisner8976 3 года назад
@@inessagud Thanks for responding.....I live in NJ and pay here is 40- 55 hr ....How is school so far and what is the hardest subject and do teachers try to ween you out like nursing or do they care and help you to succeed ?
@inessagud
@inessagud 3 года назад
@@jeffmeisner8976 Honestly the hardest part of hygiene school for me is finding the correct patients and making sure they are willing to come in for your multiples times for hours per each time! If you can find a school that provides patients for you, that literally will save you from sooo much stress! The teachers at my school are literally angels though! I know they pour their heart and soul into us and do everything they can to help us succeed and graduate, especially during these covid days. I think each program will have one or two teachers that are difficult or make hygiene school so much harder than it should be but for the most part, from my experience, they were amazing! Again, it depends which program you get into :) We have a program in Washington state where majority the teachers have a really bad rep of making it really hard on the students so it varies from program to program!
