Superb TIPS ! VTA is a bit weird as there are records of different weights hence thickness.. Others like REGA do not subscribe to it much...

Thanks, yes you are right there are different thicknesses of record but they range from 2mm to 4mm so I wouldn’t be too worried about this affecting the performance. Would does need to be considered when doing VTA however is whether or not you are using a mat, as this will add another 1-4mm to the ride height on all records.

Weight plates between the cartridge and headshell or not…? I say no, because even if you have turned the counter weight in the back to meet the cartridge’s desired weight, the cartridge is now heavier, so technically if you drop the needle on accident you will scratch your record easier…

I understand the watch if you are working with a direct drive turntable with a big magnet, but why the ring? I’ve never scratched a record or hifi component with my ring if that’s what you’re worried about.
