A bunch of commercials that aired on local ABC affiliate KGO on October 29th, 1989. These were recorded about a week after the Loma Prieta earthquake and just before Halloween. I was glad to be back inside of our house and on a 3 Musketeers induced sugar-high while recording this!
1. Domino's Pizza (What the hell ever happened to that mascot?)
2. Citibank (They help the deaf and hearing impaired!)
3. TurboGrafx 16 (An awesome and obscure late 80's video game console. Features a rare glimpse of the first Street Fighter game!)
4. Channel 7 News Break (Cesar Chavez! Awesome! The earthquake happened about a week before this, so the news is obviously pretty Earthquake-centric)
5. Lucky Supermarket (Featuring the elusive red-haired Lucky Lady!)
6. Lens Crafters (Are those glasses or protective eyewear?)
7. Channel 7 Earthquake Report (RIP Pete Wilson)
8. Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (With "Mission Impossible" star Peter Graves and his daughter Amanda!)
9. Yuban Coffee (Why does it matter if the bag is "easy to carry"?)
10. Mervyn's Cheetah Shoes
11. Splash Mountain at Disneyland (Awesome!)
12. The Pumpkin Kutter (The standard pumpkin carving tool when I was a kid)
13. Mervyn's Cheetah Shoes
14. Entenmann's Baked Goods
15. Mervyn's Cheetah Shoes (A trifecta of cheap shoe commercials!)
16. Bounty Candy Bar (Looks like a pretty sexy candy bar!)
17. Gerber Baby Food (That "Peach Bowl" looks absolutely disgusting!)
18. Prodigy
19. Triple Action All Laundry Detergent (I somehow doubt kids would be that amazed by clean clothes)
20. Orville Redenbacher Microwave Popcorn (RIP Mr. Redenbacher!)
21. McDonald's McRib sandwich (The legendary McRib! McRib...Choamp!)

Three days ago marked the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake. I know earthquakes are horrible and destructive...but it's actually a great memory, as the damage was pretty minimal here. We camped on our lawn for a few days eating bacon off of the Coleman stove. And everybody my age that I've talked to in my town has virtually the same memory. I'm glad I have this tape to remember that time by, as pretty much all of my memories of the quake are associated with the contents of this tape.

1. Domino's Pizza. The Noid was killed by Mayor Adam West. 10. Mervyn's Cheetah Shoes. Sorry, son. Jumpman was taken years ago. 17. Gerber Peach Hurl. 21. The 26 grams of fat McRib! Worth it!

I got a TurboGrapX for Christmas '89. I spent what felt like a good chunk of the next two years playing Keith Courage and the other games I got. The only other ones I remember having were a baseball game and one starring a caveman-(consults Wikipedia)-Bonk's Adventure. I think it's somewhere in the attic at my parents' house these days.

Perhaps I'm biased, but I'd rather play a good looking (and great playing) 2D sidescroller than some of the 3D crap made today. Gameplay is king, but there will always be a special place in my heart for well made sprite graphics, and I'm glad that some companies still produce games this way.

I had flashbacks to the Earthquake report that is in this commercial set when the jet crashed in VA Beach a couple of weeks ago. It was a big local story for us, and the news was showing minutes after the plane crashed everyday people helping the firefighters drag the hoses across the street to the burning apartments, just like the people at the earthquake that day.

@RevolutionOfCG I lived in Texas then. I was lying on my grandpa's couch, not really paying attention to the World Series, but it was on the TV. I think I was home sick from school that day. I was 11, almost 12. I focused in and paid more attention when they said there'd been an earthquake. It seemed like for about 20 minutes, nothing was going on because nobody knew what to do. The TV camera man seemed like he was just filming random things to fill up time until they could get it together.

The Noid was dropped after an incident at the Domino's Headquarters. It seems that a guy (whose name WAS actually Mr. Noid) Got sick & tired of everyone in the WORLD going 'Hey! Avoid the Noid! Avoid the Noid!' everytime he walked into the room that he actually started calling & begging Dominos to drop the campaign! When they told him to get lost, he went to the corp office and (TOOK HOSTAGES) until they agreed to drop the mascot! Now I can't confirm this, but its a great story!

The noid was discontinued because a paranoid (no pun intended, and there's a reason why) man named Ken Noid thought the noid was supposed to be a personal attack on him, so he attacked his local domino's pizza. I bring this up _now_ because I just recently saw a commercial where they straight-up *BROUGHT HIM BACK.* What the fuck? What if someone else shares his name? Do you really want to bring back a character who shared the name of a paranoid guy?
