80's Commercials Vol. 218 

I had everything in that GI Joe commercial except for probably the coolest thing...the Cobra Rattler. Good thing my neighbor friend had it!

I had a ton of those reflectors, they were awesome.

I can't decide if that snowman is cute or the stuff of nightmares. Kinda amazing they promote NO McDonald's food in that commercial, though.

MASK was awesome, I had Thunderstreak and Rhino + others.

The song for the Hi-C ad is actually 'I Wonder Why' by Dion & The Belmonts with changed words.

the song in the Hi-C ad is amazing I miss the McDonald's characters Pac-Man pasta and Cabbage Patch cereal are both examples of synergy gone wrong, yet strangely exhilarating

@mysticx0 I agree with you completely..I watch each new volume as it gets posted, but get sadly nostalgic, more and more every time...very bittersweet

I LIKED the live action Twizzlers mouth (posted in an earlier volume) -- reminded me of the latest 80s craze -- walls of TVs everywhere you go. The 80s was the decade of the licensed cereal for sure!

I LOVE that Kool-Aid commercial at about 3:20 and the Nike ad right after it.

@MoratheImpaler It was a not-so subtle hybrid of G.I. JOE and Transformers, featuring a special task force using transforming vehicles to battle an evil organization.

OJ's cereal was actually really good. I remember it was kind of like real orange juice but not acidic, and it wasn't like an orange flavored candy taste.

"You can pretend..." Seriously, why does the commercial even point that out??

@kerberos623 A "complete breakfast" is a meal that contains an item from every food group. It doesn't refer to the actual nutritional content or quality.

does anyone else every get kind of sad watching these sometimes? i do. alot of friends i watched these with as kids are not here anymore....they get more difficult to watch as time goes by....

@TR47 Yes, it was. I think I had my mom buy it for me a few hours after I saw the commercial for the first time.

How many times did they try to come out with an orange tasting cereal, and how many times did it flop? Get the message!

I remember those happy meal guys. As a kid I thought how cute. Now it's rather odd to me that a hamburger, fries, and the soft drink are talking to Ronald McDonald. And yet he eats McDonald's everyday. Does that make him a cannabel?

I don't even remember what the cartoon Mask was about, but I remember I had to have the toys for Christmas.

Maybe it ripped off elements of GI JOE and Transformers, but it was two heaving buckets of awesome, and the toys were too.

The Frosted Flakes robot bike reflector and McDonald's Popoids Happy Meal promotions ran in August of 1985.

@gothamjediknight I ended up getting a Bridgelayer...fun fun vehicle. And I had the Rhino as a kid. Ahhh, how I miss 80s toys.

It's strange seeing all of the toys that don't use electricity or hook up to a computer.

@ScratStitch So they absolve themselves from the figures not coming with backgrounds that look similar and figures that differed from the show's. Some people followed that, others didn't.

Amazing what some executive will think is a good idea. Orange-flavored cereal? Though lucky for them (in hindsight) that O.J. Simpson didn't endorse this.

@80sCommercialVault okay somebody finally explained it, I always thought that if you followed that then you would be covered nutritionally all day. which really didn't make much sense then.

@TR47 Yeah I don't know why so many people give such a bad rep. It was actually a pretty good tasting cereal. It was very ORANGEY.

Wow...I buy Hi-C juice boxes for my kids and I did not even realize it is such an old product. I also thought OJ's cereal was yummy back then but from the looks of this commercial it seems like a revolting concept. Milk mixed with O.J.? Yuck.
