These commercials aired on WNYW on December 8th, 1986

2. Fluppy Puppies (I had no idea there were stuffed animals, I only knew about the "Fluppy Dogs" cartoon: • Video , which I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid.)

4. "He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special" Commercial Bumpers
5. The Tub Doodler (I'm usually not one of those people that think clowns are terrifying, but the image of a clown and dog in a bathtub here is upsetting)

7. Cabbage Patch Corn Silk Kids
8. Hamster (Amazingly weird. Kind of like a Roomba...except it's a fake hamster that doesn't vacuum anything)

11. Barbie and the Rockers Hot Rockin' Van (I'm guessing this was Mattel's response to "Jem". I wonder how their music was?)

I saw this on the recommended side and didn't see this before! Channel 5 just as they switched to Fox! That Mr.T ad scared the crap out of me when I was younger! It was on all the time!

@ 3:37 actress Maureen Flannigan (the blonde on the right) starred in the quintessentially 80s syndicated fantasy sitcom "Out Of This World" as "Evie" a half-alien half human teenager. I remember mindlessly watching the show for years because of her cool 80s outfits and also that the theme song to the show was really catchy too. The show aired from 1987 to 1991.

The Flexible Flyer Gemini and Sno-Nut commercial reminds me of the Christmas Vacation scene: "This is a noncaloric, silicon-based kitchen lubricant my company has been working on."

Wow, the electronic voice of "My Talking Computer" brings back a lot of memories. That's the same sort of voice technology heard from the Intellivision voice module.

I once got the Rockers tour vehicle at a garage sale but the cassette and mike parts were removed- sometimes I wonder if a Walkman or like product electronics would’ve been cheaper...?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the Fluppy Dogs toys came first, and the cartoon came afterwards (like most things in the 1980's).

I think they were likely produced concurrently and seem to have come out around the same time. The cartoon premiered as a special on Thanksgiving that year (it was a pilot for a series that never got made). What's weird is that the stuffed animals and cartoon characters look nothing alike.

80sCommercialVault you are absolutely right that Barbie & the Rockers were created by Mattel to compete with Jem & the Holograms. Story goes that a spy for Mattel knowing Hasbro was in development on a rock & roll fashion doll managed to sneak into Hasbro & swipe only a piece of brightly colored paper, & Mattel ran with that. Hasbro had put 2 years of development pre-production work on Jem. Mattel got Barbie & the Rockers out within 6 MONTHS.

i still cant believe they turned Rambo(a R-rated property) into G.I Joe-Lite LOL Photon-IMO i always thought that was better than Lazer Tag(speaking of which anyone remember the cartoon Lazer Tag Academy?)

I don't know, Lazer Tag looked alot cooler, which is why I bought it as a kid. And it worked pretty sweet too. I don't know if anyone ever bought both brands and compared them.

Candace Cameron's friend "Marcy", in the commercial, is played by Crystal McKellar who played Becky Slater on the Wonder Years. In addition, as many as you have seen by the last name is Danica McKellar's (Winnie) younger sister :)
