Your Grandma reminded me of my own....when asked how she made one of her dumplings....she just said....oh you just take a 'puckle' of this...and when asked what a 'puckle' was she held out her hand and gestured a big handful...we all fell about laughing...she had no idea of precise weights...just what seemed about right...and she was always right!!

Gotta love that Grandma, she's a champ.i lost my granny when I was 18 miss her, she was 96, one Year later grandpa died he was 98 that was in1974 at that time they had 125 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. I come from a bid family from the woods . Grandpa made moonshine and broke horses,trapped, hunted and farmed Mom always told me how they had to hide the shine when the revenues came a calling. Never ha an indoor bathroom or city water but had the best tasting well water in the whole county. Wow that looks so good. They cooked with wood all their days. Grandma left me all her cast iron pots and skillets the are most awesome. And I was able to get the wood cook stove to . It in the barn . I use for heat and cooking lunch sometimes. Great job granny. I'm hungry. Well time to get it done. Much love ♥️🙏always my friend.

Lars, as I've said before, my grandmother was a depression baby. When my grandfather passed, she had 8 children to finish raising. She lived in a rural area, and she taught me how to be self reliant, how to can food, grow food, etc. She also taught me that you did not just throw things away. Either fix it, or re use what was left. I completely understand why Babuska Galina used the salt brine! If more people today would live by these principles, we surely would be safer from Covid 19...
@step4560

Not sure if this is near even posible, but besides just the flavor, some of the salt bine might actually survive the heat and provide some probiotics... IDK, just a thought...

Thank you Grandmother Galina. I am so happy I found your videos. I know I am living in the USA, but I was raised overseas as a child to young adult. It is such a good feeling and validation to see how she cooks and how she manages her kitchen. I'm seen as weird over here for not buying into the 'pretty, fancy, and fast', wanting to keep to basics and reliable. My parents and I have always cooked from scratch, so did my grandmother when she came to live with us. Thank you to your family for sharing. I don't feel out of place thanks to you. Cook book, - preheat the oven to 225C - then bake on a middle shelf for 11 minutes, - or until the biscuits are brown. Gallina, - oven's not ready yet, - pushes fire away, - might take about 10 minutes, - they are ready now, cracked on the top. Knowledge is experience, - information and instruction is an opportunity to make a few mistakes and gain some experience. Brilliant video Lars, and Mrs Lars, and congratualtions once again to the star of the show who with the experiences she has gained over the last 80 years, now knows far more than she can ever explain to anyone else.
