Without sounding too pretentious, this song literally changed my life. When I first heard it in 1989 I knew what type of music I would be listening to after that. And I still am
+Jeffrey Lyons They SAVED music from Stock Aiken Waterman.....literally saved music...and it's still a bangin' choon 27 years later (oh no......27 years.....where'd they go!!!!)
A truly brilliant record!! I have this on the 24 Hour Party People soundtrack and when this song comes on I up the volume on the sound surround, CLASS!! Got to be the best soundtrack album ever in my opinion, New Order, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald, Marshall Jefferson, The Clash and The Buzzcocks. If you haven't got the album then I suggest you buy it. The remix of 24 Hour Party People by The Happy Mondays is absolutely brilliant. Cheers
Exquisite. The saxophone bits are blissful. This is an incredible driving song, especially when the sun is just peaking over the horizon, and the street lights are still on.
Defo an incredible driving song love it especially on M62 going down windy hill towards Manchester at 70 in a HGV ,but take me back to when this first came out I was in my teens carefree no responsibility still loving this at 52
Some info on the Saxophone: "When people mention 'Pacific State', they often refer to the clarinet part without realising it's actually a sax,” says musician, composer, producer and engineer Graham Massey. "I was the one who played it, and that was because there were a lot of jazz influences in what 808 State was creating at that time. That record didn't just come from the house scene; it also came from jazz fusion and exotica.”
Thanks, zttrecords. This is the original Pacific State and original video of Manchester's 808 State using a Roland TR-808 drum machine that gave the group's name. They were decades ahead of their time. Very well done. Cheers!
This does it all... It explains the feeling... The time.. The love the clothes the friends the overall vibe.... A magnificent time... Didn't realise we had it so good... But wow they were the days man.. Regards from Glasgow :)
I was 22 and in university in 1990 when I was introduced to this track from a roommate who had the Utd. State 90 album on cassette. Fell in love with it instantly and have never stopped loving it!
incredibly, lush, cosmic and tropical all at the same time. I think the influence this track had on the the 2nd wave of Detroit Techno is, too me at least, understated. Hard to imagine subsequent classics such as UR's Jupiter Jazz, would exist without this record. Sounds absolutely fresh, current and relevant as ever. Beautiful.
Went to an acid house night years ago and seen 808 State. Funny thing is I've no idea where the hell it was. So, that basically sums up the next 20 years of my House Music odyssey. Can't really remember much but man, what a journey!
Futuristic Simply Magnificent I Still Love This at 18 years old 46 and still love it song Sounds Like A Happy Elephant's Blowing There Trumpets in An African Jungle With All of The Happy Birds celebrating Life💎
In 1990, I read in a music magazine that this song was supposed to show a bit how music should sound in 1997. Today we know that it sounded a bit different (trance, techno, dream house music ...).
still remember when this came out, it was not played on commercial radio for sometime in australia, i use to hear it on 2JJ, was so futuristic for that time, so fresh, love it.
My favorite version of this, both in terms of audio and video, though it must be a big ass file since it had to refresh a couple of times, thanks for posting:)
The last time I heard this song was in a cassette in 1999. I recorded it of a program of the Mtv called "Megamix". And I have to say that I haven't stopped to find it till yesterday, thah I heard it in Máxima FM (Spain's station) and I catched by shazam... god bless the news technologies. I can't describe what I feel near to 20 years later...
