@@jbone-0-919 Nah, breakbeat hardcore is influenced by house and techno, but it has breakbeats instead of a four on the floor rhythm, and it's usually a bit faster.
The end of the 80s and the early 90s [1988-1994] is my favourite era for everything Music, TV, movies, fashion, the console wars, just life in general, if ever a time machine existed, I'd go back to this era
Thumbs up from over here too. Great tunes. People respected one another. No nastiness or division. And the cars. Mercedes W124, BMW E36, Volvo 850 GLT, Range Rover Classic, Alfa 75, Lancia Dedra HF Turbo, Audi V8, Citroen XM 24V... aaahh, the good old days!
Not even lying I wrote these guys a fan letter when I was in college and they sent reply a letter back. I was so excited. God bless Andy's friends and fam. Fan for life.
@@NM-qt3oi Not far behind you lads. 48 and still find myself biting my upper lip and nodding my head. (if im wearing a hoddie it automatically gets thrown over my head).
It took me years to realize that "808 State" was named after the TR-808 drum machine. The name of this particular song, "Pacific State", always made me think the band name referred to the State of Hawaii, whose area code is 808....and "808 State" was like a Hawaii state of mind (i.e. sun, ocean, surfing, chilling, etc.). I over-analyzed like I always do!
Word! Now you mention it, it does sound like the first stirrings. A guy called Gerald produced this when he was part of 808 state, the man is a groundbreaking legend of the rave scene.
Even people who weren't into rave music felt this song. It's one of those songs which emotionally makes you feel like your visiting different worlds. If you were in the rave scene back then, it was truly surreal, I mean gigantic. Forget the likes of Glastonbury, that is nothing compared to the rave scene back in the day. RIP Andy Barker, Pacific State soars for eternity.
One Saturday night when I was 11 years old, I was skateboarding for hours and somehow drifted into a warehouse in Houston's old downtown Chinatown. All of these hipster types were dancing. Witnessing that event changed my outlook on dancing. They danced like no one was watching. It was amazing. This song was playing.

I was 29 in 1989 . I am now 57 . An old git but the memories of that era are the strongest of all that have happened in my life . I am from South London went to lots of raves and went to Ibiza twice a year . I Can't get no sleep . Sunrise .. Acid
Brings tears to my eyes. Growing up close to Chicago, I was able to see Ront Trent, Lil Louis, and all the greats spin this live. I'd close my eyes and dance like my life depended on in......
My girlfriend/now wife bought this and played it at my surprise 21st weeks after it was released. I am now 48. Still living under the spell of rave/trance/techno.
My first ever gig and rave when I was 15 was seeing 808 State with N-Joi supporting at Brixton Academy in 1990. My whole world opened and my life changed that night. Will always be so grateful for these amazing tunes ❤️
Heard this game changer 1989 at my 1st rave. I was 18 and on the road to ruin, I can honestly say this music changed my whole path and direction in life. Love and music, the answer to all life’s problems !
I first heard this at a warehouse party in Accy in 89. Was tripping that night, so many great dance tunes about but this was something else! I can remember the sound of people's feet sliding on the concrete floor dancing to it. Whenever I hear this track it takes me right back to that night. The best times...
Just can't stop listening to this track...born in 89 so missed the best days by the sound of it !still grew up in the 90s though so count myself lucky I'm not growing up in the world we live in now!
Back in the day if you were fortunate enough to be old enough to hear this it was pure house music class and still to this day to those in the know its pure class from a old house music lover in 1988 still till this day , respect and love .
I remember being a student in Banbury Oxfordshire buying this record vinyl in an independent record shop. Still have it. 1989. Still listening as a 50 year old now living in Spain 🇪🇸
1989 Used to Smoke a joint and listened to this with friends, It was like flying up in the sky. Those years were magical Now I'm 63 and still love these tunes
I was in England on holiday from australia in 1989-1990 and this tune was number 1 in the charts bought it on vinyl in London still got it after all these years top tune man! Love reading these comments everybody loves this gem of a tune goosebumps tingling up the neck....🙂😍 👍🔊💎
I still can feel the chill that ran down my spine when I first heard this in 1989, when I was 21. It was a bar in Maidstone, Kent called Gabriel’s. This being the original is the best version. A really good era for House music and in all honesty, it never has been truly repeated since. The vibe, the people and of course the atmosphere was so good. So glad I bought a copy of this, along with all the other hundreds of vinyl I bought!
As we speak.....heading into my 52nd year (5th decade) of my life i find myself seeking the music of my past. All i can say is...us Gen X'rs were so lucky and spoilt rotten with the music. Bless the 80s and the 90s
I love this tune... haven’t heard it in years! I miss those rave days! One minute you’re a teenager and early 20’s... and life’s one big adventure and party! Next minute you look you’re in your 40’s and 50’s and still pretending to be 16! 😊😔❤️💕💞🌈✝️🙏🌸😂
It was September of 1990. A car load of us went to a country park outside Glasgow to an event called 'Slam In The Park'. Jon Da Silva from the Hacienda, Alex Paterson from The Orb, the Slam boys and 808 State. Changed our lives forever. 30 years have passed but my love for House music has never waivered. This particular tune holds its own even after all these years. If you played it anywhere and at any time you'd light up peoples lives. A timeless classic.
I studied classical music at a professional level and went to raves in the mid 1980's. This is a timeless classic and takes me back to the vibe in the mid 1980's. Wow! great track!
best UK house tune of all? Damn yeah! Takes me back to my halcyon daze every time I hear it........ summarised an incredible 89. Those boys are legends!
Another absolute classic from the good old days of early rave. This track always took me to another world. I'll never forget those nights of complete peace and love. RIP Andy. God bless.
It has to be said the best years of my life was during the period this song and others were new out. I’m now 54 and it takes me back to a time when I wasn’t stressed, or had a mortgage and the only worries were “am I going to get a shag this weekend”
Heard this tune for the first time in a bus when i was about 11 years old heading home from amusement park back in summer 1995, it was such a cool feeling hearing a beat with nature sounds and that base in the backround while just looking out the window passing through central Gothenburg,Sweden.
I was born in '57. I was an original Flower Child in the '60's, listening to all kinds of MusiK, but I've always loved SYNTHS the best. I remember the early MOOGs and how electronic MusiK gained popularity over the next few decades. I found KRAFTWERK in 1978, and New Wave was big in the '80's. In the late '90's, I was RAVING in The REDWOODS in HUMBOLDT County, [EUREKA] NorCal, USofA, helping the DJ set up his sound system. They don't do parties like that anymore. Tracks like this bring it all back. :D
Sunrise and Back To The Future 1989 Dance Music Festival. You wouldn't believe how epic that outdoor field party was. 20'000 ravers having the time of our lives all dancing off our nut when this got played. Magic ❤✨🎉🎶❤️
This make me feel nostalgic, and a little sad for those days, those nights...that time in life that will never be again. But I’m so glad I was there, and those of us who were...wow...it was something wasn’t it!
I remember first hearing this on a dance chart run down i'd taped straight off Capital Radio, number two was Back to Life then the DJ said 'and still at one, Pacific State by 808 State..' Happy days.
Condolences to friends and family of Andy. It's been a rough year with too much loss. Thank you for sharing your music with us. - Jason (Life's Blood, et al.)
I get chills listening to this old but still beautiful track I was 23 now I’m 54 but I still love electronic house and house music in general.1989 my first time in IBIZA Spain my first time met House Music never go out of my mind...
This song is absurd, especially when you find out it's from the 80's, due to the level of synthesizers and mixes used. This is explicit in the part from 3:05 to 3:29, in the highlight in the last three seconds of this part that the effect of the music in reverse fits perfectly.
