80series - Q&A + Advice - 1FZ-FE Fuel Economy Issue 

I have a 1997 1fzfe auto 80 and I’ll get roughly the same range as you. About 400ks to the tank depending on driving style. I met a guy in town the other day with the same car. He swears black and blue that he instantly got an extra 300ks!! Out of a tank when he fitted the freewheeling hub kit. Not sure I believe it, but it’s what he reckons. I personally like having the full time 4x4 as I live in a country town and am constantly on and off road with lots of gravel track driving. Thanks for all the 80 series Vids. Great stuff.

The 1FZ petrol engine is thirsty, a part time four wheel drive kit will help marginally. If you want economy buy a Prius. PS. The 1FZ petrol came in the 105 series not the 100 series. The 100 has 2UZ-FE V8 or the 1HD-FTE and independent front suspension.

Funniest thing is the 100 series V8 gets better fuel economy than the 80 series and 105 series 1fz
