Literally have no idea how useful and timely this video is for me! Yesterday, for the first time in 8 years I returned to my local card shop and entered a Modern tournament with mono-green tron. Did fine, could have done better. The major problem I had was knowing just what cards to hit with Karn because I haven't played against real opponents. Let's just say my opponents next week better watch out! I've been armed with knowledge.

while it is true that karn is a lot worse in commander, there are some uses. his static ability is actually pretty good in most groups, generally speaking most decks play artifacts in some capacity. the lack of a sideboard is a huge blow to the utility of the -2 ability, but there's also more utility to recovery from exile since it's a singleton format. getting back that mana crypt your opponent exiled while also locking them out of tapping theirs is at the least pretty strong for keeping ahead of the rest of the table.

Love this idea for a series! One thing to note is that Karn is still good in Commander, although not amazing. Similar to Legacy and Vintage, Karn's strongest ability is his static, since a lot of people run artifact-based ramp, especially with the deluge of cards that make Treasure tokens nowadays. The -2 works, although it's best to view that ability as a recovery effect for key artifacts being exiled rather than a combo or tempo enabler. Plus, y'know, there's also the infamous Karn + Mycosynth Lattice lock, but... only play that if you're okay with pissing everyone at the table off. Overall, I can see why people wouldn't run Karn in EDH, but he's definitely no slouch. Really, it just depends on if you need him to shut off common artifacts you see in your meta, or if you can slot in a recovery effect for key artifacts.

With Karn + Restorative Burst line you can also simplify it as long as you have 14 mana from nykthos, and 2 karns and kiora looping multiple times Restorative Burst increasing the storm count then if you have enough you can fetch Aetherflux Reservoir on the last cycle instead of the Restorative Burst and cast it, then cast another spell to trigger the reservoir then shoot it. This is what I do in Explorer in Arena atm.

Karn isn't good in commander? I disagree. Its a perfect fit in my colorless Traxos deck. All the time things get exiled and karn gives them back while turning off opponenets mana rocks and shutting down things like isochron scepter
