Louis, I can't think you enough. I am a 50 year old electronics technician that switched from component level electronics repair working on VCRs and TVs in the 90's to Information technology and now back to electronics thanks to you. I started out working on iPhones I purchased on eBay. That was quite a learning experience. I was scammed by sellers and buyers alike. I had a asshole from NY sell me a phone that was nothing but his junk parts thrown into a case. I had people return a empty box and screw me out of a iPhone X I took a pounding. I was lucky enough to stumble across a local company that had huge amounts of work and farmed out all their micro soldering work. I spent countless hours studding, purchasing equipment and learning. In the past few weeks they started giving me their MacBook work and so far I am batting 100% 4 for 4 on liquid damaged MacBooks all thanks to you. From corroded VIAs, bad ISL circuits and back light problems you helped me do my job. In the old days of VCR repair I knew every shop and every technician for 100 miles and we were all friends. I would not only talk to them on the phone I would visit their shops and we would share stores of asshole customers and problems caused by manufacturers wanting to save $0.01 per device when building. We helped each other solve problems and make money. I have been been searching for a friend in the business and found one in you. You are the one friend that has shared with me in this industry with out expecting any thing in return other than to pay it forward. There is no way I would of been able to do this without your help. Thanks to you I am not alone. I really appreciate your help and thanks to you I am well on my way getting back into this industry. Don't get me wrong. I know it sucks! I remember the days when I was so happy I got out of electronics and into the IT business. I know it is a race to the bottom and that customers will accuse you of breaking their MacBook because you installed open office on a 2012 POS that has a bad GPU! But I must say I am happy to be here. I don't know why but I like the abuse! I just wanted to say thank you! Manufacturers would be wise to listen to technicians in the trenches working on their equipment. Especially if the customer's success is their primary goal. At one time Apple was customer driven. Today I think that vision is lost. I miss Steve Jobs even though he was a asshole. My IT company's slogan was "your success is our goal" I always grew when I helped my customer's succeed. If only Apple could step out of the forest and see the trees. Thanks, Randall

Wanted to thank you for this. clears up something I suspected, my logic board people in Miami dont know that much. they sent an A1708 back to me telling me to replace the display because the backlight wasn't bad on the board. I tried three displays, no backlight. Thank You, in spite of course of all the anti apple rhetoric.

Turn On the macbook and position the LCD at different angle, if the display backlight appear it is a clear ribbon cable failure.

9:00 I also have 13 Volts on the gate and 13 on the source. So far everthing is as in the video. But I have 80 kilo ohm on pins 3 and 4 as it should be. Also I have 80 kilo ohm on R8401 and 63 kilo ohm on R8440 (also right values). So is my backlight driver broken? Should I replace U8400? Also this is my secound mainboard that has no backlight after I switched it from a broken machine. What am I doing wrong?

First Mac owner here, did research and found mixed feelings on malware programs for MacBook. Some state don't need it, some state its a must. In your opinion, is a malware/ antivirus needed for Mac, if so do you recommend one? thanks

Louis you should always clean the full corrosion with isopropyl alcohol before turning on the machine, if you don't clean it, powering on might damage other stuff, and when i fix corroded boards majority of the time all parts are good, just the corrosion is killing stuff

Hey, this question is maybe a bit out of the ordinary, but I'm struggling with finding a proper source of information (Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places), but I want to start properly playing with and designing electronics. I already have small things like a Raspberry Pi, and I know enough to start, but I have no idea what equipment I need. As someone who hates seeing perfectly good electronics go to waste (even crApple products) its good when people like this fix products where other places (e.g. Apple official/authorized service centres) would either do a full board replacement or tell you it "cant be fixed" and "you need a new one" which leads to boards and/or whole machines ending up in landfill (or if you are lucky, an e-waste recycling facility)

Hey I just fixed the same thing a1708 liquid damaged no power. Left it sit for 3 days and it is "fixed forever". But the effing screw doesn't fit in its home! GAULL. I can't stand Apple but appreciate your channel. =]
