I was taught a ridiculous Soviet dialect of English at school - I'm old enough, you see. Later, while doing my compulsory military service in the 80-s, I've decided to learn English properly, and did it reading Sherlock Holmes stories, grinding through a page or two in a day. The method was to write out every word, and look its meaning up in a pocket dictionary according to the context. The key point was to write such words out no matter how many times I stumbled upon them, but, apart from that, spend no effort memorizing them. This way, the words I wrote more often were automatically given the higher priority, and so were the subtleties of each of them. I think I speak a decent English nowadays, so I have no idea why this video was suggested to me by RU-vid. But I really enjoyed listening to "The Red-Headed League" story, despite knowing almost by heart. Thank you!
