She may have basically been designed off the idea of a producer turning an Akira model over and saying; "We want that," but the simple details and real-world features show she was an extension of current technology instead of sci-fi "space wizardry" to conceal traits like the weapons. Her flaws gave her a character only the Defiant and Delta Flyer shared; small, versatile, robust but battered, and capable of more than she appeared able to handle. Only the Delta Flyer could match her small and cramped but energetic and defiant personality, and they also were well-designed be artists who knew how to make their features stand out

One thing I'd like to know, about the Enterprise in particular, is how many years were there between each vessel bearing the name when there wasn't one in active service? So, for example, how many years were there between the decommissioning of the NX-01 and the launching of the NCC 1701, and what did Starfleet do for flagships during those years? Obviously, we know that the crew of Kirk's Enterprise went their separate ways (for the most part) temporarily during the period between the end of TOS and TMP, most notably with Kirk becoming an admiral and subsequently taking over as captain of the Enterprise again during the events of TMP.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios

I get the impression the Flagship isn't always necessarily called Enterprise. Heck, its arguable whether the NCC 1701 was the flagship during TOS. In fact the only ship that we know 100% was the Flagship was the D - its not mentioned on the status of the others. A 'hero ship' for sure, with a long legacy. But the Constitution Enterprise was just one of a series of deep space explorers which only in-universe became famous after the five year mission - and by that point it was an old ship rapidly approaching retirement. Perhaps it was considered 'a' flagship, which makes a bit more sense considering how huge Starfleet is and how many vessels they have (thousands of 'larger' vessels, minimum).

@MarekCabak
@MarekCabak 3 года назад
I was waiting for this video. Actually I was watching Enterprise just yesterday. I love that ship, because it's much more closer to the technology, we have today. I can easily believe, it was ship from before Kirk's time, because it looks modern, yet so archaic compared to 1701. I think that designers did great job. I mean, small 4:3 LCD screens bolted on the steel walls, most of them not event touchscreens. Almost no carpets, no warm colors, no build in screens (maybe except viewscreen). Mechanical button panels and keyboards, literal joystick used for piloting. Everything was practical, spartan, just like a ship or submarine. And yet, that was the flagship back then, so I can only imagine, how the Intrepid looked on the inside. Or Delta. I also loved several facts about the NX class. Her imunity to the Romulan virus, because it has been made by humans without help from Vulcans, so it was so different to everything in the Alpha quadrant. Grapler, that is maybe more primitive, than the tractor beam, but also more pratical. It's mechanical, so it probably consumes less power than tractor beam and is as strong as the rope used. Enterprise crew used it to send some kind of electrical overload to different ship. It was usable even in the unstable parts of space, where tractor beam could be negatively effected, maybe even unusable. Not to mention that nice stunt from Trip, where he literally climbed from Columbia to Enterprise in the open space DURING the Warp. And I loved Phlox and his methods. All the fancy stuff that Doctor Bashir, or Cruser or even McCoy had? No such things in 22nd century. But he had Altarian marsupial, immunocytic gel worm, Edosian slug, osmotic eel, Regulan bloodworms, tribbles, a Lyssarian Desert Larvae, a Calrissian chameleon and many more. Xenobilogy must have been much more harder back then. I loved spatial torpedoes, that were so useless against the first real enemy the crew faced. They were even less powerful that phase canons. Frankly I loved all the times when Enterprise was just weak little ship standing against much more powerful and technologically more advanced adversaries, so the crew had to use brains and/or diplomacy to get out of the situation alive. I loved all the times Archer made mistakes, because there was no Prime Directive to tell him what to do. I loved the fact, that this little, underpowered, underated ship was the one, that paved the way for Federation of Planets. Because for other races the aliance was novelty, but for humans it was necessity. If the earth would have more powerful ships and larger flotilla, the things could be different. But we had only NX-01 and crew, that wasn't really ready for what was waiting for them in the depths of the space. And that's why the Enterprise made all the difference in the quadrant. Sorry for the long comment, I just fel in love with that series (although I love DS9 and TNG very much, Voyager and TOS also). It has many problems, it could be better on many occasions, but I love the design of the ship and all the things that made her unique. And this looks like great place to finally write it.
@BlackHedgehog
@BlackHedgehog 3 года назад
That's something that most Trek fans don't give the creators of Enterprise enough credit for. They had the daunting task of making something that seemed archaic compared to TOS but still felt futuristic compared to today which is hard given we have things today that were practically based on the TNG era (PADDs being a good example) and then managed to do it realistically and believably.
@MarekCabak
@MarekCabak 3 года назад
@@BlackHedgehog There is still one thing that helps. Star Trek universe was evolving differently, than ours since circa 1960s when TOS started. They had Eugenics wars that we didn't have so their technological advancement went differently. So there are many inconsistencies with our technology, that can be explained by this fact. There was no room for mobile phones or smartphones in post war society of 1990s in Star Trek universe. That's why theirs communicators look differently, why the NX-01 and Kirks ship had intercoms instead of mobile communicators like in TNG. Also, intercoms are porbably more pratical, harder to hack remotely (same as in Battlestar Galactica) that communicators, that work only in tandem with main computer. Intercom system was probably independent from the main computer. And why there are almost no Personal Computers, instead just interfaces connected to mainframe (even the PADDS are connected to central computer almost constantly). So yes, we actually have in-universe explanation why Star Trek tech is so different to ours. But I agree that creators of the Etnerprise had really hard task of making something look futuristic and yet archaic, moreover compared to the TOS ships, that look archaic and retrofuturistic even to our standards. And I think they did it as best as they could. At least I was convinced of that when I saw the ship for the first time.

This goes along with the Massacre at Tarsus IV if Kodos didn't know about the Constitution Class, and didn't think help would arrive in time because there were no ships that he knew of that could go fast enough. awesome video, as always. side note, though i enjoyed the Xindi arc overall, the lead in was.... dumb. WHY WHY WHY would you tip off your enemy by sending a smaller "test" weapon to your target? sorry. had to vent. Peace and long life, yall.

This gave me an interesting thought. With the existence of the collector community now well established in the ST universe, what classes of ships would be the most desirable to have? Also, would there be a market for civilians to buy and trade ships like with classic cars today? I could see Tom and B'elanna starting a business restoring originals and building new ones.

I wish the people that made "Enterprise" the show understood that NX is not a Ship class... N X stands for NAVAL EXPEARIMENT
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
@TriAngulumAudioStudios 2 года назад
What I wish is that some in "fandom" would stop looking at things from today's terms. This is a SciFi Show set 100+ years in the future. Yet some people tend to place views, names, etc of today on the show, and that's not logical. First, NX stands today for Naval Experiment, yes, but Starfleet isnt a Navy. Nor is it an out cropping of the Navy. The Navy is still around in the future, but Starfleet is no more Navy, then it is Airforce or Army.... Second, we name things today after things from the past. As a sort of homage.... Our wagons of today, bear little resemblance to wagon of 100 years ago or 1000 for that matter. Imagine if someone from 100 years ago came to you and said, "Car? I wish that YOU understood that it's not a car but a horseless carriage!" You'd probably give that person the same look I'm giving you now! So it's reasonable to assume that THAT is exactly what happened here, an homage to the Navy, as Earth's first True Exploratory Vessel! Which means, the people that made the show had a VERY good understanding of how humanity works, it's simply some in fandom that dont!

I love how they kept USS. United States Ship/Service = United Star Ship. NX actually means Navel Experimental.

I adore the NX-01 but you’d be a sadist to serve in that ship. Cramped. Cold. Metallic corridors. Having to watch your head from whacking into bulkheads. Even the mess hall has a max occupancy of like 15 people

IMO saying the sick bay had the "most advanced medical systems" is an overstatement. A full hospital or starbase would have more resources and equipment for treatment and research. Perhaps the NX Class sick bay had the resources to handle medical needs and emergencies under the supervision of qualified or even brilliant doctor.

I dont, as it's just adding to an already existing class, the very definition of refit ;)

I really liked Enterprise. I wish they'd do a reboot or maybe a movie. It couldn't be worse than what's come out lately.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
@TriAngulumAudioStudios 3 года назад
Well Enterprise is STILL the lowest viewed of all Star Trek Series, and the Cast is MUCH older then what they were... Given that DSC, PIC and LD have revitalized the franchise and become the highest viewed series of the entire franchise, bringing in more new fans then any other ever did, yes, yes it COULD be far worse then whats come out lately...

The NX freedom from ST:beyond breaks continuity…..the USS Franklin was NX 326, built during the pre-federation days then brought into the federation(ST beyond story) which almost every source says pre-federation earth was not capable of building that many ships, if earth built that many ships(at least 326 ships) that would give the 22nd century Klingons a run for its money, which could beat the romulans by itself without the collation of planets support.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
@TriAngulumAudioStudios 3 года назад
Sorry but a)What CANON source says "pre-federation earth was not capable of building that many ships?" b) You missed the possibility that when the Federation came to exist, it re-christened these ships to include it in their fleets in the Earth/ Romulan War... IE This decommissioned ship, was pulled out of mothballs, given a quick upgrade, and sent to the front lines with a NEW Registry number. And c) Registry numbers have NEVER been an accurate source of information to determine when a Starship was commissioned, See the USS Constellation 1017 as an off the top of my head example, though there are many others, such as the Grissom... So no, it doesnt break Continuity at all!
@Fresco272
@Fresco272 3 года назад
Registry number serves more like a code name than serial number. It wouldn't be tactical to give out information about number of your ships so easily.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
