This was an amazing and informative video. I am a novice wood worker, but used this drill press for some projects for my daughters wedding. I had no idea when to reset speed (nor did I investigate how). Thank you so much. The magnet idea is genius and so simple!! Thank you for all the tips. Your style is informative and concise. I subscribed!

BY FAR the most thorough, astute review of this drill press I have seen. I recently purchased the 8 inch model, and today had already submitted a "free return" request and ordered this 10 inch, before watching your terrific video. I was already convinced the additional features of this model were easily worth the additional $50 or so for the upgrade. Your video showed every one of those upgrades and was eye candy to me! The rack and pinion table height adjustment was what prompted me to begin considering the upgrade. The little 8 inch model was okay except adjusting the table height was way to awkward for me. Several other features (work light, laser guide, superior depth stop system, larger table, longer bit travel etc.) really made it easy for me to upgrade. Liked, and subscribed. THANK YOU!

To check for laser accuracy, drill a pilot hole in the wood but do not go all the way through. Back the bit out and check to see where the laser lines are in relation to the hole you drilled. You should be centered. Mine came out really close, with no adjustment necessary. Thanks for taking the time to product this video. I'm not a manual reader. This helped a lot.

Thanks for making this video. I tried to find a video that shows how to set the depth of cut on this particular style of drill press. There are at least 3 variations of the Wen 10" drill press, and some of them have the normal style depth guage with two nuts on a bolt with a dial indicator. This is what I'm used to. I recently purchased the Wen 10" variable speed drill press and it has the style on your press. I couldn't find any information anywhere. I think you should make a video solely dedicated to this feature 😉.

Nice video, better than most of the others I've seen on this drill press. I actually purchased this exact model about a month ago. It took me about 1/2 hour to set up and the only adjustment needed was to center the laser crosshairs. For the price, this is an excellent tool, and since my shop is tiny, the small footprint helps a lot. Thanks for your examples. I'm always looking for different ways to use my equipment.

The nut on the handle is an acorn nut! Lol! I have the same unit works great had to make few adjustments to the table to square it up to a drill bit in the chuck and the laser guides were off a smidge after slight adjustment they are spot on now! I also had to line up the pulleys so they were on the same plane...mine were off about a 1/16”, just loosen the 2 set screws on the each pulley and the move easily up or down on the shaft. The runout on the chuck was very minimal! I run it on the drill on the slowest speed as I drill metal mostly!! So far so good! Thanks for sharing and the tips!!

One drill press assembly tip: If the assembler doesn't want to put the heavy motor and spindle head on the base/column - instead, turn the head upside down, then put the assembled base/column/head into the motor head. Tighten the setscrews, lay the assembled press on its side, then stand it up.

Thanks for just the right amount of detail in your video. Did you consider the Wen 4212 (also a 10" unit) when buying this one? The 4212 has adjustable speed by just turning a lever. However, it does not have the work light which is a very nice feature. They are very close in price.
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Yes, I did consider that model. I have used other drill presses where you adjust the position of the belts to control the speed so I didn't think I needed the fancier variable speed. Thanks for your question and for watching.

Does the packaging give a horsepower spec? A schematic I saw previously on a retailer's site said 2/3 HP, which is better than all in this class, but now I read 3.2 amps which converts to just over 1/3 HP. If that's the case, the Wen is pretty much on par with everything else in this class, and perhaps less than the Harbor Freight 10" model which is 1/2 HP.
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
I don't have the packaging any longer. The name plate on the machine says 3.2 amps; I'm not sure how that converts to horsepower. I suspect the actual power delivered to the spinning drill chuck is a function of how efficiently the power is transferred from the motor with losses at the belt and bearings. I've always assumed that drill presses in this price range all have approximately the same specs. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question and for watching.
@titeretisico9850
@titeretisico9850 3 года назад
Hello could you tell me What is it for that holes ? ( base's two holes )
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Excellent question! The 2 round holes can be used to bolt the drill press to a table. Since the drill press is a top heavy machine, it can tip over if you are not careful. Bolting the drill press to a table helps to prevent that. The slots in the base can be used to attach a vise or jig to hold your work piece (you don't always have to use the drill press table). Having these slots expands the possibilities for how you can use the drill press. Thanks for your question and for watching. Please feel free to share any of my videos using any convenient method (social media, email, text, ...).

Debating on this WEN 10" drill press or a Ryobi instead. If anyone has any opinions on which is the better one, I'd appreciate it. Thx
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
I have only used the HF 10" and the WEN 10". I have never tried the Ryobi. What kind of material will you be drilling and what are the hole diameters? Small holes need high speed while large holes require slow speeds. From the pictures on the web, the depth stop might be a little easier to use on the Ryobi. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

@@ImaginethenMake Thanks for replying. Reason why I wanted to change out the motor is I want to add a variable speed drive to control the speed and not have to change belt locations. Have you or anyone else noticed any wobble to this model of drill press? I am a new knife maker and I need purchase a new tabletop model. I have an old 1940 Walker Turner but it has just a hair too much wobble to make the perfect holes that I need
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Hi Joseph. I think you are asking about "drill press run out" or "wobble". I'm generally drilling holes in wood so I don't typically need to be super precise. I can say that the wobble I've seen is not in the drill press but in the drill bit I'm using; sometimes the drill bit is slightly bent or is not chucked in correctly. If you click the link in the video description (which takes you to Amazon for this drill press), you can read through the Q&A and see that some people have asked about wobble but several (including myself) don't feel they have that issue. Keep in mind that this is a drill press and not a milling machine (which is typically more accurate but also much more expensive). Thanks for your question and for watching. Please feel free to share any of my videos.

That drill press "stand" of yours is a very wobbly affair. Build a more stable table next, please.
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 4 года назад
Yes, the "table" I was using was a Black & Decker workmate with an additional piece of plywood. This was my main workbench for years. Here's a video about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p3IDiuP8gQc.html . You can see at 4:25 that the table is a little wobbly. Add something heavy like the drill press and it gets even more wobbly. I have since designed and built my own small footprint workbench. I have been using it now for several months and it has worked out pretty well (better than the plywood & workmate bench). Here's a video about the new bench: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-osaXlpIFK7Q.html . And here's a video of some improvements I made fairly soon after: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qdgYJ9KYjA4.html . More improvements are planned soon with another video to follow. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

next time please don't have music when drilling, it would be nice to see how loud the press is when drilling. Thank you.
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Understood. Keep in mind that the drill press is pretty quiet when running but not actually drilling. All of the significant noise when drilling comes from the drill bit (forstner, twist, hole saw, etc.) coming in contact with the workpiece. For example, using a very small twist drill makes no additional noise while using a hole saw is noisier. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

I see it wobbling a lot, how stable is it?
@ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Hello Nicholas. The wobbling you see is because of the table the drill press is sitting and not the drill press itself. I still use this drill press and still recommend it. For the money, I think it is a solid (and stable) general purpose drill press. I still find it easy (and quick) to change speeds, table height and orientation. In my last video I used it to make a 7-pointed star. In that video, you'll see me use the depth stop (to make several holes all at the same depth) as well as the laser crosshairs (to better line up the drill bit). Here is a link to that video in case you are interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZJRjK7N5_hA.html Thanks for your comment and for watching. @ImaginethenMake
@ImaginethenMake 3 года назад
Thanks for your comment Jay. You can hear the drill press run without any other sounds at 28:10. You can also hear the drill press run without any other sounds in these more recent videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IOiT6-0_Mj4.html 2:00 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZJRjK7N5_hA.html 5:10 What I have found is that the drill press is relatively quiet while running and not drilling. The amount of sound it makes while drilling depends on several things such as: the kind of wood your drilling, the speed the drill press is running at, the kind of drill bit being used, etc. Hope this helps.
