8th & I Sunset parade 

As a retired US MARINE, I still get chills every time I see these Marines performance. I am an 03 , by mos, they still motivate me !!

I'm ex-USAF & we have our own silent drill team, bands & such....but nobody does it better the Marines!

The Few, The Proud out there with their lives on the line for us every single day. Thank You!

Absolutely one of the most majestic and polished presentations you'll ever see. Its inspirational, motivating and simply a must see event. Everyone sat in complete awe during the entire ceremony. Its one of those memorable moments in life that will stand out above many others. From our Marine family (my husband is and will forever be a Marine) to all Marines and especially for those gracious folks at 8th & I barracks...Semper Fi!

I was a Guard Marine from 2011-2012. Being loaded up with a duty belt in blues for 8-10 hours was miserable, but I still get chills when I think of retreat and taps being played. They cover the lamps with shrouds and black out 8th street, and for about 20 minutes it's almost completely, eerily silent except for the band. Great and horrible memories all at once, but the Barracks is an oddly peaceful place with it's own spiritual energy. I'm honored to have been a part of it.

In the early 1990s as a Navy CWO4 I was fortunate to be invited to attend the Sunset Retreat at 8th and I. I also met with General Gray the Commandant, back then! He was a very impressive officer!

I have honest and deep respect for the Marine Corps. Even though I was a Paratrooper once in the US Army and an Airborne Infantryman. I had a Brother and 3 Cousins in the Corps. My cousins still serving. Yet I admire the pageantry an esprit de corps in all your ceremonies and tradition. The Army is very different from my experience. We do have pride but ceremonial wise I feel was generic. Graduation from Basic and Infantry School was the first time I really shined as the guidon bearer for my platoon. Airborne School was in formation and getting my wings pinned on me and that was it. Battalion, Brigade, change of command ceremonies and one division change of command ceremonies once I was in my regular units. That was it for the Army. The cool thing was being all dressed up was being on leave. This is where I admire the most when your family greets you at the airport from LAX to Honolulu. I say the Marines in their Blues, Greens, and Charlies look great. The regular Army suck at their uniforms to be honest. Unless you are Airborne Infantry, Ranger, or SF. We are different from the rest of the Army. The berets, jump boots, parachute wings, either with Infantry Blue Cords or not. We stand out from the rest of the Regular Army. The Marines who stand out the most honestly are the Recon guys with the Wings and Bubbles. The Recon guys are above me the Airborne Infantry, Close to the Ranger guys and SF units due to their training. Truly the Marines have the sharpest uniforms of all the services in my opinion. But I would never give up being an Airborne Infantryman wearing my Infantry Blue Cord, Jump Wings with Oval, Shinny Jump Boots, and French Fourragere. I know that Marine units who fought in France during WWI were awarded the French Fouragere as a unit award fighting with the US Army's 2nd Infantry Division. The 82nd Airborne was awarded it too. Truly the Marine Corps deserve the honor of being a fine and elite corps of men and women. I am an old dude now. I was just a Paratrooper and will enjoy my title and happy for now. Reason is why would anybody would jump out of an airplane? Answer is. Two things in life. Bird shit and fools with brass balls beneath them! Semper Fi! Sorry been drinking too much... Burp...

I like to watch close order drill, but HATED doing it. It takes a lot of discipline and practice to be that squared away.
