You know there’s another cool trick that I discovered when I was younger, if you have a musical Christmas hat or even a toy that makes a noise when you squeeze part of it, you can activate it by putting one hand on the plasma globe and then touching the musical Christmas hat or toy

When my phone gets close to the plasma ball it starts to malfunction, why?

Because even though the device isn't technically a Tesla coil, it still operates at a high enough frequency to emit a good and proper electromagnetic field (enough to power a spiral light bulb!). I wouldn't recommend putting your phone near the plasma ball on purpose because it could possibly damage the hardware if the globe induces a high enough voltage into your phone.

Haha I was worried about that as well, but rest assured there are no conductive parts on the tip of earbud that are exposed or close enough to bare skin to zap you.
