I rescued a 3 or 4-year-old Siberian Husky, he has some training but the pulling is what I struggle with, it's a good thing I didn't put a harness on him, and he gets excited and wants to jump up on people, wines when other dogs pass him by, he's distracted. I feel frustrated sometimes.

I have a three year old female husky, always walked with harness …she’s small but jumps around and pulls a lot! I’d always end up with back pain mid walk. I WAS against prong collars. After seeing this video and much persuasion from my brother, I purchased one last week. I can hand on heart say it’s the best investment I purchased for her. Our walks are so much more enjoyable and she doesn’t mind the collar at all. With time/training I will move onto normal collar.

This is silly. 10+ year dog trainer and training a husky with a harness is the BEST way to do it. It may require a bit more patience, but it is by far the best way to train.

I just learned this today...my 4 month old girl and my 2.5 year old boy pull super hard. Today I put them on a leash and collar and never felt better walking them.

Same here. There was certainly a learning curve but we've both gotten used to it and its now our favorite activity together! I know my huskies body language pretty well so i know if hes about to sprint in the opposite direction to catch a squirrel or because some dog across the street is barking. It took falling 3 times but nothing serious. Couldn't recommend this enough +

I have a husky and he drags me around our neighborhood for sure, especially when he spots a squirrel or a cat or something. I've tried just hooking him to a collar / martingale, but he will literally pull through the discomfort. It's so frustrating

Actually all my dogs do this, it isn’t just the huskies, all dogs do this depending on their personality. I’ve had dogs my whole life so I know.

i had the same problem, got her completely untrained because the owner would just leave her in a crate crying all day, what really helped were the metal spiked collars, instant difference,.

Not true. My husky walks perfectly in harnesses. So you cannot say any husky pulls on harnesses. It's a training thing and takes time

Using a gentle leader or harness (clipping the leash to the front of the harness, not the back) can also deter pulling.

They do surprisingly well in the heat. Just have to be a bit careful during the summer to make sure they don't overheat. Should be doing that with any dog though. I see them a lot here in south central Florida. Looking to get one for myself here soon

My nan got us a husky and it hasn’t rlly worked out I have been studying about the breed researching and stuff but the training hasn’t worked out at all I’m only a kid my parents haven’t helped me train her at all I don’t have experience training either but I refuse to give up on my dog I don’t rlly understand a lot of things our past trainer tried to explain but I still tried my nan just never helped me i will not get rid of her though.I’m just not patient enough and get frustrated that often results in tears because I just can’t do it on my own I want help but I don’t know how to get help it’s rlly hard for me but I rlly want to put the time and effort into training her I just need to find the right way to understand things:(

It's not a bad idea. I have trained huskies on a harness, just never walked a centimeter when the leash was on tension and only continued the walk when ut was loose and dog didn't pull (later when it was oriented on me). You can't just believe everything that someone tells you, do some research. It is totally possible to train on harness and collar both.

Saw the video and TBH, fuck his method. He tries to justify being abusive with a prong collar as if he's correcting a mistake. Your dog should know who's alpha (You) but shouldn't respect you out of fear. That resentment always come back. As long as you put in the time, effort, and understanding of how to walk your dog there's absolutely nothing wrong with a harness.

Mine does just fine with his harness; if I want to make sure he doesn't pull that's what the chest ring is for but that's pretty rare...collars are ridiculous for exactly the choking you talked about. More like the "owner" needs to spend more time with her husky and be a proper "parent".

That's because uour using it wrong, no dog can pull when they are used properly! They need to be situated high up around d the head, behind the ears. NOT around the throat!! Same with the prong collars!! Please people! Look up videos on how to use them properly and safely!

Do you recommend this collar for all types of dogs for training? Or is a slip leash ok to use? Also my dog already has a collapsing trachea is there a better collar or leash to use to train her to walk nicely without further damaging her throat?

I feel like harnesses work for some dogs. I own 6 dogs and I walk them all on harnesses. I just got a husky puppy this week and he walks great on it too. I’m gonna be teaching him heal but I just prefer harnesses. I’ve never personally had an issue with them and my dogs don’t pull me. I trained all my dogs when they were puppies though so that helped with leash training

@@lildimes407 when you start walking your dog and he pulls, yank the leash a little and make him stop. Then continue to walk and continue to tug the leash a little each time he pulls. If he continue to pulls, turn around and start walking the other way (continue this method and be very persistent). The dog will eventually learn pulling gets you no where. Work on one dog at a time and then when both listen, walk them together. You can try a “choke collar”. It doesn’t hurt the dog, just pinches but they are very effective. Use the same method, pulling the leash a little hard when he pulls (not like lifting the dog in the air but enough to correct him/her so that they learn). I hope that helps!!

@@lildimes407 you could practice heel with treats on your walk (one dog at a time but I would start by practicing at home so they have your full attention, then move to outside on your walks). Sometimes dogs won’t take treats but I use cooked meat usually as their rewards. My one dog is toy motivated so I bring that with me too just whatever works for your husky’s

This is not true. You can just put a harness and never put a collar and have a really good walk. It’s all about training and learn her what you want from her with treat and motivation. The equipment have not importance with the walk it’s all about the training and the time and patience.

We have a violent abuse, adopted, Siberian Husky/Wolf mix (1/4 we think) who is the sweetest, most loving beast EVER.... but loves to find weak spots in the fence and flees for a couple of hours at a time every few days. The neighbors all love him and he loves them and he always comes home. I have mended the fence so many times, that it looks like a patch work quilt. Advise me please! My last dog was a red nose who was with me for 15 years. NOT the same....

Harness is no beano unless they are sporting. My trainer told me tho that it's a need like water and air to pull. So mine has a harness he can pull a little while we bike but I walk him with a leash

Why do all these "dog trainers" who use huskies in their thumb nail, use FEMALE huskies? And puppies 6-9 months old. It's NOT the same! As full grown 2,5 year old HUGE male huskies. They are alpha, they won't listen! They are way more aggressive when they want something. Yes I took care of both female and male huskies that are 2 years old. And there is a HUGE difference....

They're also meant to listen to their owner when sleigh pulling to steer the sleigh perfectly. When the owner doesnt give them command to pull then their should be no pulling especially on a normal walk. Im only talking for the people who actually train their husky's these commands and bring them running or sleigh pulling.

Lmao, just stick a muzzle collar on for the point of views.. Pooch will behave exactly what you want.. In 20 minutes. I dare bet that in a week or 2, husky won't give a single feck and will continue to pull. It's not the harness that's the issue, it's the training.. I'll be happily taking my huskies in their harnesses for hiking trails this week with next to no pulling.. Huskies will be huskies!

Absolutely bad advice. I am an experienced Siberian Husky owner that I can walk with finger tip control. You need a full chest harness with a D link on the chest. It's as simple as that..

Please don't promote the most abusive and the most exhausting to date dogsledding contest like Iditarod. It kills vast amounts of dogs snd EVERY single human winner in that contest left their dogs outside, chained to a small wooden dog cage or plastic barrel with barely any straw for warmth, force them to learn to run by tying dogs up to their Jeeps and dragging them around and force them to compete despite numerous injuries like broken bones and arthritis or diseases like pneumonia. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I use a harness for my husky, and it didn't make walking her any more difficult. It's all about what you allow your dog to do. I prefer harnesses over just a collar because I've had issues with collars falling off in the past with stubborn dogs. With a harness, you have full control. You just need to train your dog to walk better in general, harness has nothing to do with it.

I don’t understand why people put body harnesses on big dogs. you can’t control them that way they will drag you. someone I know has a bull mastiff and I keep telling him to put the dog on a choker chain. The dog drags him. there’s no way you can control a big dog that way! A tiny dog yes! I would never put anything around a little dogs throat. my little dude has a body harness he’s only 20 pounds lol!

They do a lot better than you'd think in the heat. As with any dog you need to be careful and make sure they don't overheat. But huskies can deal with just fine. Their coat acts as insolation against the heat. Some of the best dogs in the heat are long haired and double coated similarly to huskies.

... you can totally teach a husky to walk on a leash without pulling with a harness. Speaking from experience. Everyone will decide for themselves if they use collar or harness, but to say that huskies can't be leash trained with harness is total bullshit.

Idk I got my husky from a shelter in January. He was 6 months old and was used to a collar, pulled like crazy, got him a harness and he’s much calmer and easier to control. And not putting any unnecessary pressure on my dogs trachea like you seem to like to promote doing to dogs

I have so many questions I have a 8 mth old stop being like you to husky that is probably 90 100 or more pounds already I am only 120 he is hard for me to handle but only take to me my husband got him for me and.he hardly has any to do with him my dog kelo flips out if he can not see me he has eaten my wall the dog kennels I have bought 4 he has eaten my ac unit out and busted my window he has also busted the glass out my back door he has naver been locked up no more than 2 hrs
