There are angry people, but they don't harm others. There are jealous people, but they use it to spur themselves on to be better. But narcissist's lack character; blame others and use it as an excuse to sabotage, break promises and elicit attention. "Be angry and sin not" does not fit in their own agenda.

My ex husband started apologizing about 10 years into our relationship but never changed his behaviour. It seemed he thought because he apologized that that was enough and would say I should stop living in the past 🤦‍♂️

I did get a couple of serious apologies over the 5 years...the last one was genuine....but the relationship still went south because I found out about some lies/ cheating

An apology from a Narc is 'transactional'. Their actions prove whether they mean it or not. My Ex would 'sound' apologetic but would always put in some insult or insinuation or devaluation alongside his 'apology'. 🍒

Good point. I never thought of it this way before. I have always gotten the "I apologized what more do you want?" That is a perfect illustration of how the apology is transactional in their mind. They expect blanket forgiveness in exchange for the words. Much like when you are first teaching accountability to a toddler. You aren't explaining the sociological ramifications and explanations... you are at the basic basic level... like Sally and Jake in the sand box they still expect that type of transaction of everyone saying the right words so we should all move on... total light bulb moment. @BenTaylor do I have it close?

My Narc ex-"friend" told me "I forgive you", like I did something to her...I just decided to separate from her toxicity, and I've never feel better ....

I got an apology after he dumped me "I am sorry for lying about seeing xx" he didn't apologise for walking out on me in the middle of the night when I was ill and caught him lying, or for raging at me while he was drunk... He also said he did self reflect but found it really hard and scary and made him panic when he was "alone in his head". He xlai ed he thought about his behaviour and *had realisations* but his actions didn't even change that same day. I'm sure he was grateful, he said he was grateful for me but only after I said it to him

Funny. I heard “I’m sorry you feel that way” so I used that on him and was told “that was a lame apology”. So oblivious. So entitled. So lacking in self reflection

I'm with someone right now that I think is a covert narcissist. Is it possible that during love-bombing if you catch them doing something like lying, they will apologize and say they are going to change? Mine has apologized several times and promised to change several times and then keeps lying. What would a narcissist even apologize like that and be so agreeable and nice about it's? He is super duper nice all the time and constantly agrees with me. But it's like he's just giving me lip service.

If their lying to you, it’s time to go before they suck your life force, if they need to change, then say hey when you’ve worked on yourself and become the change, then give me a call and we’ll see if we can hook up again, remember your not here to fix anyone, they have to choose to change and every day be consistent with the change ❤

With my Narc I lend /….give a lot of Money …. I get given a lot less back as if m totally paid Example I give 200 they give 20 and don’t ever say the narcissist doesn’t pay back lol
