Agreed, in my mind mudrunner had the ideas but couldn’t carry them out, snowrunner has ideas but not the same but carried them out, if snowrunner would’ve kept some of the ideas that mudrunner did it would be better
@@Airsoft_Ghost1 I don't think you quite understand what "things that were already good" means, it does not mean personally cherry picking the one clear fault of Mudrunner. But anyway; Mud physics were much better than in Snowrunner, vehicle models looked much better and more realistic, better steering and all the points made in his video.
Literally WORTHLESS. Highway trucks or any vehicle with highway tires are completely utterly garbage unless you're roll playing and want to switch trucks and loads constantly. (Which I've done). Use a highway vehicle to tow an offroad vehicle on a semi bed which is carrying the load, then offload the offroad vehicle onto the mud, never touching the main road. Besides playing around like that they have no real use.
@@katherinecurtis1747 Yeah (On Xbox or with an Xbox controller at least, i think) If you held right stick instead of just tapping it and then just stuck in in a gear (like low, auto, etc) you wouldn't have to touch the accelerator to get the truck going it would just go. But you wouldn't be able to move the camera.
You do. You have automatic winches that run on battery now with certain vehicles . You also have a crane now that can lift entire trucks and transport any vehicle you can lift and put on a bed
I liked the atmosphere better in Mudrunner... The maps felt more remote and empty, and I liked the misty weather. Also, I wish there were more old, Soviet army trucks in Snowrunner.
I like both styles. I don't mind the more warm and lively vibe in Snowrunner, but Mudrunner definitely nails that "you are in the middle of fucking nowhere" vibe.
@@MrFusion exactly lol. The MudRunner vibe is serene, like you’re 100 miles from ANYBODY, whereas every SnowRunner region is like “hey, Bubba two streets over needs your help with these rocks” lol.
Man I’ve noticed the addons and trailers early and I can’t understand why in SnowRunner they used the same type for both regions. That is a easy thing and makes a huge difference.
@@thefusionshark Well they'd get a visual upgrade being transferred into the Snowrunner engine, but honestly the details on the mudrunner trucks are topnotch already.
And they removed cruise control. And precise throttle for keyboard players. And setting steering angle for winched vehicle, which was absolutely essential for towing through trees. So many downgrades were made to the basic mechanics...
@@trombulan the high graphics just make my normal ps4 automatically turn them down most of the time and theirs no option I know of to change them manually so it ends up looking worse than Mudrunner instead of better
Small scouts might as well not be there though... A Kodiak is just as nimble and at least twice as fast as any scout in any tricky or difficult terrain. In MudRunner they were actually fun to drive.
@@OttosTheName the scouts in Snowrunner are useless until you get the max upgrades for them with the lifted suspension and giant mud tires. They can't make it through the simplest terrain. Any 6x6 with stock tires is easier to navigate than the scouts. I never use the scouts for anything at all. I was excited to see the International Lodster and its add-ons, till I tried it and it's pretty much garbage. Only thing scouts are good for are collecting scout trailers to sell back to the trailer store. That's it. Even then I just use a regular truck, winch the trailer to the store, then use a scout to attach it and sell it.
The BEST thing about MudRunner was delivering user-created vehicles and maps through the Steam Workshop! The worst thing about SnowRunner is the lack of the classic soviet-era vehicles.
I absolutely love mudrunner, i can feel russia just by playing that game with my friends, getting stuck in mud, rivers, between trees. We helped each other and tried our best and when we discovered winch bug we took flight. Mudrunner has special place in my heart
Snowrunner has a Russian part that's a bit Mudrunner-ish (landscape, buildings, weather) with more modern vehicles. But as mentioned in the video, some of them could carry a longer flatbed or a bigger crane. Afaik there are several sizes of those yellow service things that contain both fuel an repair points.
@@crystalasteroid5571 No absolutely man you have to get snowrunner, its amazing! Really Really brilliant game, just saying the sound of the trucks were better in mudrunner thats all.
One of the first thing that come to my mind is, that in mudrunner a loaded trailer felt really heavy. In snowrunner it makes no difference if they're loaded or not....the bounce, jump and so on.
@@thefreshprinceofbriggsmoun4441 they may have changed the weight of loaded trailers at some point, some are definitely still broken. like the fuel trailer, utility trailer, and maintenance trailer all don't weigh anything by default(probably around 2000-3000kg or something, the fuel one for example should weigh around 16,000kg). there's a mod to make them weigh the proper weight though, Real Life mod.
Actually the fuel capacity is a big thing to m. It's weird seeing some oshkosh have 300 Liter and sucking it dry in half a map when in reality they have like 800 or so. A lot of the big vehicles are very limited in range, I get that it is a gameplay mechanic.. But still.
I think that the biggest thing that was changed for worse in my opinion from mud runner was the pacing of the whole game. I really prefered the puzzle type of maps over the snowrunners campaing style. When you found a ok truck the game never put a new really hard challenge in your way and game felt way more like busy work for the sake of compleating everything. In mud runner in the other hand you tried to find where are the trailers, vehicles on maps, and where you get fuel and where to transport it. And starting with the good old 1 star truck. Hopefully the mod maps will fix this issue that me and my friend have.
someone should make a mod pack with all the mudrunner trucks in it. including that little tractor and the A-969 Another thing is they should all have the old addons, as you said at 4:50
Note, the new tuz warthog etc do have some mudrunner style add-ons, would love to see them as an option for other trucks, along with old trailers for scouts and trucks
I miss the old winch drive/pull function. You should do a ANK vs Tayga comparison now that they added 2 new suspensions and Tayga tires to the ANK in the yukon update.
you forgot about key element: mud mechanics. In mudrunner your tires could damage the surface and dig in if you were not careful with your throttle. In snowrunner truck only just move slow in mud or stright get stuck. But the mud satys the same regardless of what you do.
@@dragoxk4542 not really actually I have the game and you can see the mud deforming under your wheel , tho I would say mudrunner did a way better job for it because in snowrunner it always feel like its either I'm stuck or I'm not compare to mudrunner where I could feel like even when I thought I was f*cked I could still use some skill to get me out of here
I know this is ages old, but I find that using High or sometimes even Low-3 in mud causes me to get stuck due to digging in and then Low-2 or Low-1 will grab and get me out. Maybe it's just not as pronounced as it is in Mudrunner (I've only played Snowrunner).
@@Darion350 I really just started playing snowrunner on thursday and at least from my standpoint (having played mudrunner thrusday morning and switching in the evening) I can say, mud physics is on point in snowrunner now, it feels great, you deform the terrain, create new tire groves in deep mud, different vehicles behave differently on the same terrain, the only thing i am kinda missing is the 3d mud buildup on the tires, i just guess the developer did listen to the community and changed things for the better (or im just blind, don't know, but I enjoy snowrunner a lot)
@@Nusszucker yeah, honestly I went back and played some spintires and the mud just felt weird. like you would climb out of a mud pit so easily if you modulated the throttle. like instantly up ontop of the dirt without deforming the edge at all which felt weird to me, almost like the dirt was too stiff. could have just been that map though.
3 more things that really irk me off: 1. The automatic refuelling. In SnowRunner, sometimes the game automatically refuel from one source to another, while in MudRunner (+SpinTires), you don't have such problems. In fact, you can't syphon fuel between different vehicles like in SnowRunner (this I consider an improvement of SnowRunner, however). Also, you can't drain your fuel tank addon empty like in MudRunner. And no, hilariously, this feature can be seen not when you use a fuel station, but when you choose the "Refuel" option in the Advanced Menu. I consider this an annoyance and a very terrible design choice. 2. The differential lock. In MudRunner (also the same for SpinTires), once you switch to Low gear, the differential lock will be automatically activated. Not so in SnowRunner. That old habit carries over to the next game, and especially problematic on the earlier driver levels where you're stuck with crappy highway tires. You park on a loading zone located on a difficult patch of terrain to use a crane, and return the vehicle to neutral, or do whatever the hell that gets the vehicle shifted to Auto. It starts sinking into the surface. Once you're done and packed your cargo, you want to drive away, but can't activate the differential lock because of the stupid change. You're stuck, and have to use another truck to help it out. 3. What is the purpose of Neutral in this game, when you enter a vehicle it defaults to Auto? For a game flexing itself as a "simulator", this behavior will get you kicked out of a driving school, let alone technically possible in real life. Also, I don't understand why they don't allow differential locking in Neutral. I haven't even mentioned that they still haven't bother to change the in-game sun. Have you ever seen our Sun rising AND setting on the West? Never will. And there are many other things that I find inferior to MudRunner. But considering the dev team's capabilities with the bugs, I'd say these things might never get changed, and I'm almost used to them anyway. Let them focus on the bugs before any other change is made. I love the game. In fact, I've sunk so many hours into it that I can't remember. It generally did carry 2 of the greatest selling points of MudRunner and SpinTires which are replayability and modding capabilities. However, I consider SnowRunner a spin-off of the series, similar to Forza Motorsport and Horizon. I currently play all 3 of them, and since Oovee now actually picked up SpinTires where they left off, the game feels alive again, and that gives us players a good variety of tastes and experience. Maybe one day, we can get all (or most) of the good points of them all and combine into a single masterpiece. Now that is something I'm willing to pay full price for. (Edited for punctuation and grammar).
Regarding your first point, it's not automatic refuel - sometimes the game thinks we pressed the button twice (maybe if we press it longer?) the same happens when you exit a menu.
That’s a possibility. I find that this usually happens when you just load up a map (either from the main menu or just changing between maps) and then refuel from a truck or a trailer nearby. Usually it just happen once until you load a new map.
Is recalling your 12 tons truck to the garage realistic? No. Scouts are borderline useless in snowrunner, just the tatarin the Yar are usable and the tatarin cant even pull trailers. You could rescue your truck near a objective recalling a Scout and using the winch, you loose all spare parts and gas too so if you need that you needed to drive there still, if you only needed a push you could recall it. Was super useful and fair.
Snowrunner is immensely fun, I'm way more addicted to it. But I was messing with Mudrunner on my switch and watching how tree stumps and such move around in the mud when you bump em was mesmerizing. I think the mud has been downgraded. It still looks good but I'm not often blown away by it like I was in mudrunner.
I like the way Mudrunner feels while driving. It feels more realistic to me than Snowrunner did. And the Gearbox in Mudrunner works way much better for me, to shift is more fun.
I was a beta tester of Spintires 2013-2015. You can see from my 2014 videos it was way ahead of it's time and pretty much the same as Mudrunner . This is because something major happened and there was a big fall out of the developers (Oovee) . Mudrunner bought the game ,added a few American trucks (There was already free mods!) and cashed in selling the game again . Last year Oovee got the game rights back so I presume Snowrunner with lots less features is all they have. Better graphics are probably quite easy now with the improvements in graphics engines , and using the same trailers and containers is just lazyness in my opinion. I think Spintires is back on steam.
I so wish they would make a new direct competitor to Snowrunner. Console mods and all. Probably not going to happen unfortunately. You can really feel how NOT authentic Snowrunner is.
I 100% agree with ya on the river thing, like in mudrunner you actually had to be careful when you crossed rivers, like making sure how heavy your truck was or what you where pulling so the current doesn’t take ya, in snowrunner all you have to be careful of is having a snorkel
Snowrunner is amazing game i love it but Mudrunner felt more realistic. Can't really point finger on what did it more realistic but it just felt more realistic
I think its because MudRunner is much more simplified, you get inmersed easier as in Snowrunner you are often reminded that you're on a game by the HUD and menus.
One thing that immediately disappointed me with Snowrunner was the lack of a standard gearbox. The way the auto system works just seems arcady and dumbing down. Then there is the "recover" function where you can just teleport back to the garage if you get stuck.
I'd also like to add that mudrunner has much nicer (mud)tires and wheels, it almost seems like Snowrunner doesn't have any russian tires, apart from the TUZ tatarin. They just put American looking tires on the russian trucks. Just wish the DLC would also include more new tires, would rather have that, than another new scout.
agreed... tires are same for most trucks... they should add like some exclusive tires like tayga has its wide tires although they shared those tires with warthog and tuz 16.
I agree with all of these. But I have to note the troll vehicles. The A-968M is... well, no need to explain, really. It's a legend on this channel for a reason. The B-6A tractor is... honestly, surprisingly capable, in some regards. In a mod map (I forget which) that had swamp areas, all the vanilla vehicles kept getting stuck, and needed winches to move forward... except the tractor. It was slow-going, but that thing trundled on through the areas others couldn't, and only needed the winch a couple times to get over fallen trees. Kinda similar with the old B-130, actually. It's not powerful, but it's not useless either. Then again, I suppose it all depends on experience and will vs time and effort, but still.
The old gear box was better to you could put it into any speed and vary it not just low low, low mid and low high snow runner is a more polished version of mudrunner I do miss the trucks from the old game
The mudrunner low with 3 different stages is your low-, low and low+. The old 1+ is now high, only thing they didn't keep was the different adjustments for reverse. Snowrunner has actual throttle control and mudrunner didn't plus i prefer the plus layout over the H pattern.
What i really miss in ST, MR and SR is proper physics and sound of engine and gearbox. No clutch. No rev counter...nothing. Feels like driving mario kart not the big rig😕
On the recall front, a nice advancement would be if you recalled a scout from a garage, it would physically gain a driver and actually drive to you, taking real time and using fuel on the way!
I really do prefer the mud physics of mud runner over snow runner. I also just don't understand why do bigger vehicle's have the same fuel capacity. The twin steer has 3 big gas tanks but no increased capacity. I feel like the devs made snow runner too easy. It really should be a hardcore OG mud runner mode.
Agreed the mud physics are MUCH better in Mudrunner, your wheels actually deform the mud and make their way through depending on the deformation. In Snow runner the mud deformation seems to be only visual, and the speed you traverse through them is just a numbers game between the traction value of your selected tire and the max traction value they programmed in for that piece of surface. And then on top of that they added scripted in speed limited areas. (Think of the snow patches in lake Kovd.)
I am just really hoping for a gamemode like Hardcore. No recovering, increased fuel consumption, but trucks get rebalanced fuel tanks, only manual loading and more stuff like that. Maybe some one will mod it, but I would prefer it if the devs acknowledged the core of the fanbase who desire a bit more of a challenge after half a year of SR.
Yup...I really missed river and deluge maps in snowrunner...It would be awesome if someone make those maps with snowrunner setting as mod map or devs bring something similar.
But I think If something is extra in Snowrunner then it can't be considered bad. Sure, some people may hate it but some people like me appreciate the extra effort done by the developers.
2:46-3:09 You accidently dropped on one mistake, i found out that at the mudrunner parts it said Snowrunner, and for snowrunner it said Mudrunner. If someone already said this, then remind me.
You are spot on. You should send this to the developers so they can incorporate this into their next game as it's probably too late to add to snowrunner.
Personally, Mudrunner is the better of the two games for creating an immersive realistic setting and allowing the drab grey-scale grainy feel of how it really is like to work with Russian equipment. Endless hours of trudging through depression inducing marshland to be beat down only on your mis-judging of fuel requirements, is exactly like it is, trust Me. Snowrunner feels to Me like just another trucking simulator. Kinda like when Mad Max got all Tina Turner, pointless expensive additions at the loss of realism.
Can I just say I am whole heartedly addicted to this game.. brilliant atmosphere and physics based gameplay with gorgeous scenery and top notch engine sound effects. I have been lost in this game for weeks. I am preordering whatever STers releases next. 👍
Agreed on the winch, but also the Mudrunner Camera was so much better because of the amazing hotkey system with truck/trailer/front/back views. So much control. Now we swivel all the time.
I love for the troll cars from mudrunner to be introduced into snowrunner. I think they would make great troll vehicles and with the right upgrades they'd be a good option to use as a scout vehicle😁
I disagree with that , spintire feels like a really complet game just more indie without all the big name like ford or cat . A tech demo would just be mud deformation and a basic sample car with nothing to do kinda like beamng.drive (which is still a fantastic tech demo just not really a "game")
I 100% agree. Small scouts should have recall feature, trucks with huge space should have something to fill those gaps like unique addons, semitrailer, carriage/trailer and/or utility box for repair and refuel. One thing too that saddles should be movable like back and forth for adjustments
Snowrunner is a ok game but it doesnt have that many details like mudrunner. And the lack of updates makes it even worse. Overall i would recommend it.
I got Snowrunner when it was discounted. The different goods bring more variety. Spintires and Mudrunner are fun, but it's basically unlock garages and haul logs on every map. In Snowrunner you also find contracts on the map.
You forgot the 3D mud effect on the tyres, that gradually fell off on the tarmac (much better in Mudrunner, Snowrunner it's too "clean" for this kind of game) and the wonderful gasoline "rainbow" effect on water surface... missing in Snowrunner. :'(
What totally gets me is physics in snowrunner. It works at things only about 7 metres away from the vehicle. A great example is letting a box fall from a mountain. It just gets stuck in the miggle of fall and if you don't put a vehicle or crane near it, it just sits here and waits even when there's nothing under it
yes...that's actually same for all 3 games, In SR it is more noticiable because there's a lot going on like your various types of cargo, various trailers, etc so chances of them getting stuck in air is also high.
The skidder was great in Mud*Runner to clear a road that had debris or big boulders you can literally plow out of the way with the skidder. Was very, very useful. I also wish they brought back the Mud*Runner winch functions and engine functions. Only way to start your engine was hitting the start engine button. Meaning if you applied the brakes with the engine off. It won't automatically start your engine. Snow*Runner to me is a more arcade style and more user friendly than Mud*Runner. While Snow*Runner is fun new Content I still think Mud*Runner is wayyy better overall.
I wouldn't say the car and tractor are completely useless, as one could potentially still scout with one and deliver fuel/repairs with the other. It's just that they're TERRIBLE at those jobs.
Now you can turn the driver off in upcoming SR update, or arms at least. I love the fact you can lift entire trucks in the air and carry them and that you have to buy trucks and level up to progress in maps - along with tires and suspension. The biggest boring thing after completing MR is there was nothing to come back for other than the same old log runs... SR opens up huge replayability . Carrying multiple cargo on top of existing cargo is brilliant or leaving the trailer and using the truck and crane to go fetch cargo in obscure areas and load it onto the parked trailer. Just brill. Then you have cargo and trailers that block roads when you topple them and trucks that go across several maps to the objective. If you topple one it’s more fun to drive a recovery vehicle to fix it than to return it to a garage 2 or 3 maps away to redo it.
You can pull 2nd truck in snow runner with engine off now, mostly you're right about mudrunner though, the problem I think is that snowrunner has alot more going on so they cut some small details to simplify everything and get the game released as quickly as possible. They are slowly updating it and it is steadily getting better. Next generation game will be crazy I think
Or the C255, or the C4310 , or the C375 or the D537. I mean these are classic offroad trucks they seemingly omitted because they only wanted new vehicles in Snowrunner.
You have to consider that most off the things you stated in this video are for the realistic part like the winch if a truck was stuck in mud and another truck came to how it out the truck stuck would help bye at least rotating the tires slowly.
Mudrunners lada is actually op af if you do not touch soft soil. Just navigate trough the thick forest and use winch when needing to cross a wet surface. Fast af.
1 of the reasons Mudrunner feels better than Snowrunner is because since Mudrunner is the successor of SpinTires they was more than likely using the assets from SpinTires. That's why all the trucks have their own options.
Is it too much to ask for all of these things and literally all of the vehicles in that game? Also, the add on one makes me sad it was so much cooler. Also I miss the logging. Damn they really left out some good stuff that they literally have the assets for. Challenge maps were great. And scouts feels really weak but so do most trucks in that game in my opinion. I don't know if it is more realistic but the really limited top speeds and super muddy mud just doesn't feel right to me compared to the last game. I wish everything from the last game carried over including maps.
Because Mudrunner was done by the Russians and the west helped a little bit, and the last game is completely yours, and you don't even forgive attention to the fact that the Urals look poorly compared to Mudrunner, because there is a hand of a Russian developer, and here you are west lovers of tricking and harassing

Man I forgot about the recall they need to add that in SN, my hope for the different loaders is they will add them in when they do the Wisconsin dlc for logging we’ll see though
The winch not having a "pull" mode is especially annoying when lifting vehicles. For example, I wanted to load a truck onto a Western Star Twinsteer, but as soon as you attach the crane winch, it starts steering at max angle. As a result, I could only get it lifted on backwards and very carefully. It actually took multiple tries because when lifting the front on the it did manage to fall off due to the steering.
A few things at 6:40. There are longer “larger” addons for longer for trucks. The service trailer addon when fitted is longer if needed. And regarding flatbeds not being longer. It would serve no point for them to be longer if they couldn’t slot a full additional cargo slot. Also in mudrunner any truck that wasn’t a scout could pull “larger” trailers you designated for the biggest trucks.
I'm making comeback to this games after some while( i'm a KB+M player). camera more wild in snowrunner. I've mastered the restricted but snapped camera of spin/mudrunner, it's much simpler, why they change it. I always drive from front view, doing so I can spot troubles such big rocks, or tree branches. Also, I think no engine brake when downhill in SR. Last, give back the gear stick throttle, it smoothen throttle controls and not making my fingers fatigue.
I will always love mudrunner. Have it on PC, XB, and PS4. I was super super super excited for snowrunner and had preordered it for XB. When I got it, I was extremely disappointed. Played about a full 6 hours, havent touched it since. I'm not even going to look at the mods when they come out. I've got almost 700hrs logged on steam for mudrunner. Started working on my own mods too. Severely disappointed about snowrunner. Wish I could have gotten my money back.
The unique addon thing looks good and might be implementable based on the region. A trailer bought in US could have the US design, while the same trailer bought in Russia would have the Russian design. Addons themselves could work like that too based on where they were mounted. An american truck could have a russian addon if it was mounted in a russian garage. Troll vehicles would be even funnier if you could completely rebuild them. An FWD minivan upgraded with AWD, bigger wheels, raised suspension, wider axle track and matching engine could become an unstoppable Monster Truck. And some current events have shown us how useful a damn tractor can be. With big and wide wheels it could rescue anything from anywhere.
You personally like the games basis being about Logging. Snowrunner is the essence of what it’s like being in the Alaskan or Canadian wilderness trucking supplies that are needed or laying around. The devs aren’t lazy it’s up to the player’s to help create the content and entire makeup of Snowrunner and what it can evolve into next. Like maybe incorporating the desert and delivering oil and getting stuck is sand and rivers and quick sand. The weather can start to be a big factor like if it gets to cold or white out blizzards and people’s Rigs get completely buried and you got to get it out someway cause you couldn’t recall it or skip in-game time.
There is at least one unique addon for larger trucks that differs from the smaller trucks. I can't remember exactly which trucks it fits on, but there is a larger sized maintenance addon for some trucks with a longer frame.
Someone can healp me, i wanna buy the snowrunner but its so expensive and the mudrunner have a offer of 10 dollars in ps4, i should take the offer or snowrunner its way better, just the graphics are amazing dude
the b 6a is kinda useful, i mean its slow but its a tractor and its diff-lock is always on. it dont have suspensions so any little dent on the road will make the tractor hop.
there's a similar tractor in spintires and that one is can do actual stuff like pulling fuel, repair trailers and even has loader to load logs while b6a is comparitively less useful
The trailer sizes I would disagree, I believe the logic behind it is that bigger, more powerful trucks are capable of carrying loads more easily and go through tough terrain with ease. But on the other hand I've started from Snowrunnner, didn't ever play Mudrunner so idk just makes sense to me this way
A lot if these have been fixed. For example the longer trucks can now have three long cargo modules. Snow runner is still in development even when its released
