I work as a PA in the ER and urgent care. Difficult pts can be exhausting but yes, we all have to find ways to deal. For me, I focus on putting myself in their positions, being patient, listen and emphasizing. Also trying not to take things personally and not being defensive. There's indeed a psychosocial aspect to patient care. It's a struggle but something we have to try our best to do, especially when companies use the almighty NPS score for pt satisfaction, to try and retain pts, get reimbursed, etc. I think we also need support from our superiors and not allow patients to disrespect us. Pts need to be accountable too and we need to make it so. Thanks for this video

I’m not in the healthcare profession. I’ve been watching as as videos as I can like as a patient. I had a situation during a regular physical that perturbed me. But I didn’t say anything at the time. I would have completely brushed it off by now, but the doctor’s is now calling me back for a follow up to “go over the results.” While gone ahead and scheduled the follow up, I just don’t know if I should say anything about what’s been bothering me about the previous visit. In trying to process this situation, I have read that female doctors already face higher levels of burnout and stress, etc. Plus I ran into her at the grocery store one day to discover she’s the mother of FOUR young children.. I can’t even imagine giving BIRTH to four children, much less taking care of them all the while working with the public as a medical professional. So, I sort of just think, maybe I shouldn’t bother discussing anything that’s bothering me. And maybe even just going to a different clinic. Maybe what happened was a subtle nudge to go somewhere else anyhow. I guess I’ll go back for the results, and perhaps just look for a different PCP in the meantime. I just want to make sure I’ve caught up on any billing issues first. And then try someplace else.

Lol, I work at a public, inner city hospital with drug addicts and hardened, entitled, enabled (California 🙄) patients whose behavior continues to be allowed without any pushback. The kid gloves treatment doesn’t work, they eat that stuff up and walk all over it. I just have to be prepared to stand up for my self in a professional and matter-of-fact way, and be prepared to have them sign the AMA papers and leave.

I was in the hospital with heart failure. Nurses wanted me to do things I did not want to do. I explained I have the right of refusal and if that’s not acceptable, I’ll just leave, AMA, this is all without being difficult to the point of yelling or being physical I suggest to all patients , just leave

As a registered nurse, by the second tip, I was laughing at how ridiculous this is. You sound like you condone abuse towards nurses.
