When you talked about cutting out toxic people in your life and avoiding drama it really resonated with me. I have a ‘friend’ who always makes me feel tense and nervous when I know I’m going to see her in case she chooses to put me down or poke fun at me in company in an attempt to belittle me. Then I came across this saying “Old keys won’t open new doors”. And then it all clicked. This person makes me feel small and stuck in this gloomy place and unable to move forward. So I’m slowly distancing my friendship from her and opening the (new) door to good hearted/high energy people who I’ll look forward to being with and hopefully enjoy happier tomorrows with. Just thought I’d share in case it resonated with anyone.

I was diagnosed with a life limiting illness a few years ago and my life completely changed and so has my body image covered in scars, stoma bags and intravenous tubes . One of my favourite quotes is , It’s not about the cards you’re dealt it’s how you play the hand ! My life isn’t easy but I have learnt to appreciate the simple things . I agree we definitely have a choice in how we react to each situation X

Gosh Lydia, I would say that this is the best videos you’ve ever done. I remember meeting you in an airport lounge in Milan about three years’ ago. It was hot, you had been extremely busy at fashion shows, and yet you were the sweetest person, so grateful that I spoke to you and would’ve given me as much time as I wanted. Thank you for doing the legwork for me in this video, I can see how I can use every single one of these life advices to make my life easier and happier. I was busy making notes all the way through 😂. I’m so happy for you that you have got yourself to such a beautiful place where you are content and fulfilled. Xx

The one thing that has elevate my life especially around the covid period has been the word of God (the bible). For every situation I can find find a Scripture that talks about anything from 'Direction' - Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 - 7, to 'Anxiety' - 1st Peter chapter 5 verse 7,, 'Protection' - Isaiah Chapter 54 verse 17, to 'Love (romance') - Song of Songs, to the 'Season' - Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 - A Time for Everything

After the worst weekend of my life, having one of two dogs that were in my care , died within 10 minutes of becoming ill. My mental health crashed so hard, but today I forced my self back to my routine, swimming at 8.00 , aqua aerobics 9.15 , I was doing it🙂, when suddenly a woman I didn't know shouted at me for drifting out of line.... my mind was shocked back into a place I hadn't been in a long time. I tried to carry on tell myself I can't help it , I can't feel any sensation in my feet and I wobble about it's ok 😳 but it wasn't I had to leave. Next week I'm not going back instead I've booked 7.00 lane swimming and 8.00 lane swimming. This was one of your best videos for me . I want to say a huge thank you 🤗. Stay safe stay well xx xx

"Triggered" is the most misused word. People who have PTSD are the only ones who actually get triggered, and in their case the triggering is involuntary and a part of very painful psychological reaction following very serious trauma which includes flashbacks, dissociation, nightmares and the rest. People who have PTSD can't just decide to not get triggered, if they could, they wouldn't have PTSD. What you are describing is simply getting upset and frustrated and I completely agree with your advice on that.
@u2uuba
@u2uuba 2 года назад
As is common in the ever evolving English language…. words sometimes get reappropriated & take on new meanings (albeit a similar one in this case) ..… I don’t think tho that usage of the word “triggered” in a non ptsd context takes away from the very serious nature of ptsd 🤷🏽‍♀️
@alicebell
@alicebell 2 года назад
@@u2uuba It kinda does if it's suggested one can just get over it. I think since social media became such an important part of our lives it's become fashionable to claim to have certain illnesses and symptoms, I'm not certain why this happened, but the replacement of the more appropriate words like "frustration", "upset" "anger" with psychiatric terminology might have been a part of that, to communicate our distress in ways that makes it sound more legitimate or serious. It's just my pet peeve and has been for a long time because I suffer from ptsd and as you obviously know, it is extremely unpleasant while treatment for these symptoms doesn't really do a whole lot. Triggers are particularly upsetting, but they are there to warn us of similar dangers, which is why, I suppose, they are so hard to get rid of for good. So I do hope it goes out of fashion eventually, because trust me, being triggered is very debilitating and I would not wish it on anyone.

I think you can hold people accountable whilst staying calm without being ‘triggered’. If someone is in the wrong, or is clearly lying, or being misleading (especially on the internet), I’m personally not ‘triggered’ by them, I’m just questioning their accountability. I think there may be a grey area here where some may be a little confused🤷‍♀️
@lizziewing
@lizziewing 2 года назад
A life coach I follow says, “You cannot hold other adults accountable. It is not your job.” And I always remember that. There’s a lot more peace to be found in living and letting live than taking it upon yourself to call out everyone who is wrong and trying to make them change or pay some kind of penance. Just my opinion! I personally don’t think many people truly change by being called out on the internet.

Love, love, love this. This was exactly what I needed to hear today. I am a leader in my organization and I have worked so hard to get there. However, with that success comes more and more responsibility to the point of overwhelming exhaustion. I keep putting my job ahead of myself and my family. Not good. Today started a new day with me taking on even more responsibility and I was sitting there at the start of my day saying to myself, you can do this, you got this, but at what costs. My health and time not spent with my amazing husband and my son who is in his final year of high school. Yes, I do well and can afford the best of what life has to offer, but when? I don’t have the time to enjoy it. I truly need to reassess what is more important and start thinking about me and my family. I need to take all that vacation time that keeps racking up. I have some serious decisions to make and this really solidified even more the direction I was already thinking of heading in. Love you and your vlogs. I couldn’t agree more about being unapologetic! You work hard and have earned that right for yourself. You rock it and if others don’t like it, they should find their content somewhere else.

Congrats on ten years. That is a real accomplishment! My trigger is when someone trashes me or my accomplishments or behaves like I have been handed everything in my life when the opposite is true. It just lets the wind out of my sails. I have learned to separate myself from those people because they are toxic. Good job on allowing yourself to stop living unapologetically!!! There is only one thing I don't fully agree on, that is avoid watching the news, because in my opinion to be informed about what's going on in the wide world is very important to cultivate one's mind, and I can't just close my eyes on the bad things to make them disappear. Thank you for all your content, I find it amazing!

For me I have learned/practice from loving oneself and having a true heart of thankfulness/gratitude/appreciation for oneself and the “things” (regardless of amount etc) one has truly puts everything in perspective and in clarity. 😘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank you so much for this video ❤ This is so helpful ❤ I have sometimes so many triggers. Especially at work. I learned just last month again the hard way, how those triggers can affect your well being and your body too. So this video is such good reminder how all the points your talking about can make the life so much more calm, happier and fullfilling ❤

Dear Lydia, thank you for this video! I have a friend that has been a very close friend for years. The problem with her is that she is commenting and judging on everything I post online, say about myself and how I express myself. For example, when I had hurt my knee really badly and told my friend group that I might need to get surgery because the doctor was recommending surgery for athletes, her reaction was that I should not brag about myself being an athlete. With your video you have given me a clear vision of how to deal with her and how to explain to her that the problem is not me being stubborn about critisism, but much rather her being triggered by everything I do and her feedback not being valuable to me. Thank you again and have a nice week! XO from Germany

I am thankful for this video. I was triggered yesterday actually. My boss and a higher up are telling me that I worry too much and I make things harder than they need to be by just asking a question. I have only been at my career for two years and I still have questions about things. How I deal with it. I am a Christian so I pray to God to help me with it. He always helps me with my problems. 😊

Omg I am so late to the party but this video is pure gold! Seriously such great content ..I have also been going to therapy for 6 years now and watching your video made me feel that I was listening to advice from a superwoman that is a combination of my therapist and best friend (if that could ever exist 😋). Thank you for the wonderful video ❤️

This is my second watch, and it will be one of those videos that I will watch over and over again. My husband always says I am wrong not to watch the news every day, that I should be aware of everything that is going on in the world, and I live in a fluffy cloud, but I like my fluffy cloud! 😄 x 😊

I do not watch the news everyday. It is very negative and effects our moods causing stress and taking away hope. I prefer to watch positive, creative content and read books that are interesting happy storylines too. I figure if something really big happens in the world - I will hear about it for sure and in the meantime I know what I need to know. I also only follow and engage with positive inspirational people on social media too. xo
