I thought Toby looked so cute at the beginning, with that adorable scruffy face, but, oh my, he’s such a handsome lad after his haircut. That silky-but-textured Yorkie-Maltese fur looks so difficult to groom. Your expertise is only matched by your patience - and obvious love of dogs, and this little guy in particular. ❤
If Toby is anxious, I don't know what you would call my little Gucci! There is no groomer who, after the first session with her, will ever take her back. One groomer told me she had never heard sounds like that coming from a dog and she was afraid someone outside would hear her yelping or screaming and she would get arrested for animal abuse! So I have given up taking her to be groomed and do the best I can while she jerks and wiggles and makes those horrible sounds while I hold her in my left hand and groom her with my right. It's unimaginable what I go through with her. She had a real rough start in life and was most probably a puppy mill puppy and she has so many health problems. BUT...I LOVE HER! And if she doesn't look perfect, she looks good enough. She's s still adorable. ❤ 16:41
Toby is so well behaved. At first I thought he was subdued because of his anxiety but there are moments he shows he's pretty comfortable with you. What a sweetie
This was fascinating to watch. When I took my training as a groomer, it was drilled in that you never go against the grain of the hair. But Toby came out looking amazing! I honestly wish that your techniques and approach to shop management were standard across the industry, because they are the epitome of 'work smarter, not harder', while still putting the animals needs front and centre every step of the way.
So glad I finally watched this video. I had put it off because I thought it would be too painful: our sweet boy Balto passed away earlier this summer, a month before he would have turned 6. He had been struggling with serious autoimmune issues his whole life and it simply reached the point where it was too much for his big-for-a-yorkie-but-still-really-little body. He was a total sweetheart and absolute joy as well as my first dog ever and no one could ever replace him. He loved being groomed and the groomers loved him too. Teared up but still smiling while watching this whole video. Thank you Toby and Vanessa for healing a small piece of my still broken heart.
I understand your pain. We had a very large golden retriever who developed Lymphoma at age seven. She broke my heart and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think of her. It was so hard for me to look at any videos with Goldens. Now I just appreciate how wonderful they are.
I can so relate. My Maltese was very healthy for 8 years. When he started his ninth, he started throwing up … not a lot but there was definitely a beginning to it. After about 2 months I had him checked by the vet. His liver was not properly processing the proteins in his food and that was the cause for his nausea. He did very well on special food until the last month of his life. He died at age 9. That was 2007. I haven’t had another pet since.
Vanessa, you're a genius! To work out that this little guy got too stressed, asking the owners to bathe and dry him, allowing you to clip and groom was a great thing to realize.
Permanent puppy looking is so cute. Our dog was thirteen when cancer and seizures took him, but when strangers cooed over him and asked how old he was and we would say "thirteen", they would say "weeks?" and were stunned when we said no, years. He was a westie/shih tzu mix and had that puppy look right up until the end. My parents have a yorkie and she is older than the lovely dog you groomed and she looks like a young one too.
We just had to put down our shih tzu and he was 20, and nobody would believe it. He was also the runt of the litter so was always on the small side which just added to it. Not a hint of grey or anything, he looked amazing.
We had a silky terrier (looks like a size up from the Yorkie). He was cute and playful but not much in the brains department. He’d play fetch with a ball until he was panting and starting to slow down some. He’d want to keep playing even when we stopped. He was a bit too boisterous and energetic for us so we rehomed him with a family that had 3 children that loved to play with him. He was much happier with them when we checked in on him a couple of times.
The oldest Yorkie on record was 26 years old the last time I checked the net. I recently got new pups after my last Yorkie past at only age 10, she was stunning.😥
when you have been a shih tzu mom for 20 yrs and you just now come to the realization that your wonderful groomer whom you love realizes that you do those in-between face and eye chops. Ooops, I love her even more she has never ever mentioned it. LOL Toby you are a cutie!
I really enjoy these long form, running dialog, grooming videos. As for breeds to see, I’d love to see Husky, Australian Shepherd, and standard Poodle. Thank you so much!
i had a 16 year old yorkie and she looked so young when she was groomed! she also started to act young after her haircut and she was so cute unfortunatly she died in october this year and i miss her so much and your videos with yorkies bring such a joy to me
So sorry about losing your Yorkie. ) : We just lost our Maltese (my baby boy, Oliver at 12 1/2 years old) this past August! Broke my heart, all our hearts! ) : So awful to lose your best friend(s). ) :
I had a yorkie growing up and he had horrible anxiety. He was afraid of the groomers, the laundry machine, the stove, the oven, basketballs, and many more things. Now owning my own dog I went on the opposite end of the size chart and got a bullmastiff lol.
Awww Toby is adorable! My parents just lost their Yorkie/Maltese mix last week. It was SO hard on everyone, he was such a wonderful part of the family. He almost made it to 15. Wonderful dogs, Rocky was the sweetest little guy with a ton of personality. Miss you Rock ❤❤❤❤
He's a cutie pie. It's just a little compromise that makes all the difference for our four legged family members. The way you hold his leg is just something that seems to have a calming effect. I think he appreciates the contact.
My pup is a similar breed (shitzu/yorkie), except he's white and silver. I've been grooming him myself for the last 6 years as it was cheaper for us and less stressful to him for me to learn. His coat is just like this, except for the colour, and I felt very relieved for you to say shaving it backwards was correct, as people who've watched tend to try to tell me I'm wrong :') I'm saving this video, because the one thing I've never been able to do quickly his legs, and you did an amazing job here. My boy tends to get stressed waiting for me to be done, because they're just too little to use the clippers for everything and he doesn't like standing for too long. I've been using straight-edge scissors for anything I can't clip, so watching how to use the other types has been really helpful! Also, Toby's ears to face blend is so nice!
This video is giving me all the feels! We lost our 14 year old yorkie, Brock, in March to lymphoma. He was the best boy! Best behaved and best personality of any dog we’ve had. He thought he was more human than dog. 😂 We miss him so much so I enjoyed seeing sweet Toby extra today! 💕
Love this video and how you worked with the owners to ensure Toby could have a comfortable and less stressful groom! I used to want a yorkie so much, but looking at the maintenance that goes into them through your videos has finally convinced me that I'm just not a good match. A dog with a lower maintenance coat would be a better fit. Thanks so much for that info!
I also puke literally dozens of times a day because of anxiety (technically the anxiety that comes as symptom of other things.) I’m glad he at least seems to have a solution that helps even somewhat. He did a great job, really hope he was feeling much better than usual when he left!
I really hope that you can find resources to help you! I feel ya! I remember being so anxious at one point I could barely eat anything for weeks, couldn’t eat anything other than salad because the smell of cooked food made my stomach turn, but I knew I had to eat something! Eventually I got over my stigma of medication (or perhaps my anxiety just got too bad) and it’s been a lot better since. That coupled with therapy. I hope you find something that works for you as well!
16:40 I swear my favorite thing to do with my aunts Yorkie was to constantly ask it questions just so I could see that adorable little head tilt ♥♥♥ Gosh I miss Chewy so much T.T but Toby is just adorable even if he was nervous and I'm super happy that both you and the owners found a method that doesn't make him throw up anymore ^^ I love your videos so much! I would love to see any Husky video (I miss hearing the songs of their people ^^)
Let's talk about a dramatic change in this dog. He was a mess when you got him, I know he was bathe and his parents cut off alot of his face hair but you still had a lot of work to do and it paid off. He is sooo stinking cute now! I love the collar he got, it made him even cuter.
Sweet baby. I really appreciate how you will err on the side of letting perceived perfection go for their well being. Also, the seniors I have had so far their dew claws always start curling inwards. Never had one with rear dews. A groomer showed me a trick, in between nail trims to deal with the dew claws that grew like WEEDS. Use an emery board to make sure there is enough space between it and their skin, until a proper clip of it. Cheers, @Girl With The Dogs 2
such a good boy! he didn't nip when you trimmed his face which shows how hes comfortable with you. his temperament is so good! my shih tzu hated getting his face touched and he was a bit of a hassle at the groomers sometimes as he got older so it makes me happy to see animals so comfortable with the people working with them :)
Love the way he looks now💖. I have to groom my dogs myself, becasu among rescued ones and others, they're 10 of them, all different zises. I own two yorkies and the hair makes me nuts! I'll try that shaving (also have a shi tzu, who I leave full of curls, a mix breed of German shepherd and collie, and aaaaallll other breed and no breeds rescued, so...your videos are aseducative and entertaining. Thank you so much for all you share with us.. Many hugs from Argentina!!!! (loved the special Christmas around his neck! 😍😍😍😍😍
A Morkie! My dog is the same mix but looks more Maltese-y than Toby. They’re the sweetest dogs! I have been grooming him at home for years and it was really helpful to see you do his breed. I feel affirmed knowing you find Yorkie hair difficult too!
Great video, sweet dog, and he finished up looking like best self! I love those party collars! We called them that for my mini American Eskimo, who hated clothing, but thought party collars were great. Until she got tired, reviewed her situation, and realized they were in fact clothes! Cue the sit-down strike! Always forgot before the next time. I would love to see an Eskie groomed if one ever comes your way. 🇨🇦💕
Best professional groomer on RU-vid. I love that your videos have good contents as well as before and after. They are well presented/edited, clear and concise. I love your videos have no promotion of other channels ..., boring repeated jokes of aprons, criticism of clients, no half an hour of shampoo and drying, careless/poor grooming. Just pure joy to watch your videos. Thank you.
You are so good with shaving out their paw pads! I groomed my own poodles for a while, and they were so ticklish-the struggle was real. A good groomer is worth every penny you pay for them.
My last yorkie was just like Toby. He was 15 years old yet looked like a puppy after a hair cut. Groomers in town loved him and always asked if they could use photos of him for their advertising. Our little old man was the prettiest thing in town.
Fantastic transformation - what a cute, cute dog! I would like to see a longer version of you grooming "Jinx", the German shepherd mix, the one who likes to give you a bath... She was beautiful and smart, also funny. Maybe you can also tell us what she is mixed with. I like both the short and long videos.
Wow, instant difference even at the start of shaving his body hair. Love how you can really see his expressions and ear movements after the groom. What a big difference! Elegant little gentleman. I'm usually not a fan of clothes on pets, but that Christmas collar and your bandanas are different. Cute! Poor Toby, I get the dry heaves fom anxiety, so empathize greatly. Glad you and his owners worked out what the problem was. That is so miserable to go through. I'd love to see a long-form video of one of your cat grooms, as long as you, the cat, and your cameraman can hack it. 😄 I'm loving all the dogs so far, but would greatly appreciate any cats you could do. I've never had to bathe one yet, but my remaining cat is 14 now, and I'm sure he'll start to need help in the coming years.
I love your second channel! I would love to see all your clients on it! And, I would be very interested in a westie…many people cut their hair, but few actually give them a proper westie cut…
Little guy was shaking and shivering, and it reminded me of my dog whenever we took her to the groomers, and once she realized we were on the way there, she would start shaking and get nervous. It's ok little guy! It's just a haircut!
What a good boy. I have never had a dog that needs this type of hair grooming but I find it so relaxing to watch. I am wondering if a happy hoodie would calm him down from the clipper noise. I also love your long videos. Keep them coming.
@@stevenanthony9353 Hi Steven! Just saw your msg! I am fine thank you! Litteraly fell on thin ice today and landed on my butt. 😅But apart from that, I am happy and yourself?
